  1. Liberal farmers are the biggest users of government subsidies. Those aren't Conservatve Farmers standing in line for all of those subsidies.
  2. Now it looks like they are going after another local town regarding the leaflets, Desloge, Mo. And they are not backing down. http://www.stltoday.com/news/local/crime-and-courts/kkk-sues-desloge-over-leaflets/article_bdd15051-2285-5819-9f55-4812335ade6d.html
  3. Most Farmers tend to lean to the Left, Democrat. Why do you always have to pick on the GOP?
  4. Friends boat, he is getting it fixed. Ripped the trolling motor off the bow and clogged the water pump that day too. Bad day for the old boat. We floated Riverton to the Narrows that weekend too after downing the boat in kayaks and canoes. I would say there are some tricky spots down that way too, especially around the spring branch above narrows. Fishing was ok. Need alot of rain.
  5. Nice piece, have not seen one of them in a while. I carried a Hardballer for a while.
  6. Yep, about 4 knuckles worth. Was running a shoal and grazed a big rock, split the transom away from the bottom about 6 inches wide. We watched the only other boat that day at Riverton come in with 2 nice holes in his.
  7. I really hope they can build up the populations. I have never caught one yet while fishing and am waiting for the day.
  8. I really don't know why they have to close them at all since most are heated. The unheated ones have to be drained. That was something that I could not understand at Montauk, keep at least one open for the entire season. It would probably pay for itself in increased camping. Of course, they would sell less motel rooms if they did that.
  9. They have placed new rocks around the ramp area to block the campers out of the area. Of course, that was 2 weeks ago and will probably not deter a dedicated deer hunter long. As long as you do not wander far from the stream bank and wear orange, you should do good. The river is so low that jet boat traffic was nil when we were there. And we tore a hole in ours.
  10. Well put. But when they make it all touchy feely like you are supporting your local school, it sounds like a great idea. Take the lottery, how many winners took the money and created an industry that employed people and become an asset to the community?
  11. Here is one from a conservative site, the Clinton Brodcast System, aka CBS. http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-503544_162-57515033-503544/fact-checking-romneys-47-percent-comment/ He rounded up, actually 46.4 percent. 47 just sounds more impressive.
  12. Well, it turned out to be a pretty good day. Daylight broke about the Belleview Mountains as I passed thru them on HWY 32. Arrived at the park around 8 and it was really empty. I did notice alot of traffic heading down the gravel road to the lower accesses, so I bought a tag and headed to the lower end of the park. Only one soul from the parking lot to the end of the park. Picked up a few fish in the riffles by the parking lot and then walked down to the cabins. The park guys were dragging a motorized something out at the turd ponds and they fired it up. I walked thru the cabin holes and started fishing by the first bluff. Picked up a few fish on a bead head nymph. Fish starting working the top sipping mayflies so I tied a size 18 CDC Cahill and was into a fish in a few casts. This went on for about an hour and I ended up landing 10 fish on the cdc flies. Then the smell starting getting to me, the rank off the turd ponds was pretty bad this morning. I was getting hot so I bailed and walked back. The motor was a sump pump draining one of the ponds into the river. I then realized I had been marinating in the stuff all morning. YUCK Back to the lower end and I picked up a few there at the put in spot. Drove to the upper end of the campground and fished down to the handicap access and picked up several more. Still only seeing one or two other fishermen the whole time. Had lunch and headed up to the fly area. Fished the catch and release area and landed 5 in that spot, one going about 2 lbs. Fished the bluff area in the fly zone but the fish were not really doing anything there. It was getting about time to drive back, so I cut across the island to the back side of the hatchery office. I noticed several hanging out in that hole, so I tossed a bead head in there. Ended up with 5 more till I broke off and decided to call it quits. Water was clear and low. Sun was bright and fish were skittish because of that. But was still a 50+ fish day. Nothing large, but fun. If only the park was like this all season.... No crowds, no stupidity.
  13. 47 percent of the United States does not pay income taxes according to government reports. They still contribute by way of sales tax and gaming commissions, liquor and tobacco taxes, fuel taxes but not in Federal Income Tax. They get back more than they contribute with EIC and Child Deductions. They seem to loath and vote against the ones that do contribute to the Federal Income Tax. But the burden of the taxes are really carried by the upper percentage of wage earners and the middle class. Then there are the retired ones that do not pay income taxes any longer but did in their lifetime. They seem to worry and vote against anyone that may mention Social Security and Medicaid Reform. The 47 percent has been around longer than Mitt Romney has been running for POTUS and many have brought it up. His statement was merely stating a fact that that group will not be convinced that a Fiscal Conservative may ever help them to lead a better life. So why target them in a campaign? As far as crime, when the one came into Caruthersville, several retail shops I visited on a regular basis reported increased breakins and night time robberies. They added bars to the windows, beefed up security, and cut back on inventory to curtail losses. Of course, they were outdoor businesses that specialized in guns. Don't really know what goes on in OK, never been there. This is a classy establishment too, but nothing of interest for me that I can see. If I want to gamble some cash, I will try some new sporting gear to see if it lives up to its fame. At least I will have something tangible for my efforts.
  14. I was really surprised you had the time to bowhunt. I gave that up several years ago when the kid came along. Then I started duck hunting and my Nov./Dec. fishing suffers.
  15. Anyone going out for the last day? For years, I opened and closed Montauk. Then I tired of the crowds on opening day, but I still finished out the season. Then my daughter came along and there was Trick or Treat. Then the divorce and she outgrew the Trick or Treat and now I have been back on cycle. The last day is usually a good one. Crowds are light. Weather is nice and pleasant. Fish are in full fall color. Flyfishing should be prime. Heading out in the morning. Fishing the Trophy area first, then the park for a while. Middle of the week and nothing going on, should be a great time.
  16. You are only in the 47 percent if you get back more than you pay in. Just because you get a refund does not mean you did not pay taxes for the year, it just means you let the government hold your money in a no interest bearing account till you file the paperwork necessary to get it back. Next year, adjust your withholding and you will not have your problem. The 47 percent are the ones on government subsidies that all the rest of the tax payers, ie the ones that pay in either with with holdings or quarterly payments, have to carry the burden of.
  17. So, do you shoot traditional bows or modern?
  18. The only upside, alot of the local "47 Percent" will start paying some more taxes! Cape Girardeau has plenty of local tourism with the college, river history, major event center, etc, but it was never what I would call a Destination Stop. Will it hurt the local restaurants, probably if they offer better service that is lacking in most on a weekend night. Hotel and motel spending will increase, maybe some retail increase if they don't lose it all at the "boat".
  19. It has been a long time coming, I think they started petitioning 20+ years ago. Voted it in, voted it out, and voted it in again. Spent countless manhours and dollars to entice one to come here. And it opens today. They expect it to be a great boon to the economy. It will create a few jobs. But to say a place for people to come and gamble their money away hoping to leave with a little more as a good thing? Local news just stated everyone in MO now lives within 90 minutes of a casino, like it is a good thing. Personally, I think we would be better off without them. The negative element they attract and the crime we can do without too.
  20. Good thing I did not mention lying and thieving, YOU would have thought I was talking about a Dem.
  21. Soft plastic worked deep on 1/8 oz jigs, either tubes or crawdads worked well last weekend on the Smallie section of the 11PT. Deeper holes when water slows down or tailouts. Cool weather has driven them out of the riffles for the most part.
  22. Did he smell like ether? People in general are getting ruder, more obnoxious, and impatient and most only seem to care about themselves. The old ways of courtesy, manners, and gratitude have skipped a generation for most of our fine young youths.
  23. You could try Gregslist if you don't get any bites on here.
  24. Gonna try to get in some fishing that week too.
