FLYTYINGCONTEST.com Was poking around on Feather Craft's website tonight and saw a link to this site. Nice patterns and is hosted by one of our own, best I can tell, Brian Wise.

Contenders are fun and it looks like you got it for a good price. 35 Rem and 22 are a good combo. Barrels are hard to find, not many stock them any more. Not even sure if they are in production still, would have to look. We get one in the shop on trade about twice a year and they do not last long.

I Bought This Lazy Susan At A Yard Sale And....
jdmidwest replied to jdmidwest's topic in General Flyfishing Topics
It does not need to store much, it sits under a Gerstner type wooden tool box that contains the material, which is all on a rolling computer stand with storage underneath. Instead of putting white laminate on it, I have a back plate for the vise that gives plenty of backlight. -
I Bought This Lazy Susan At A Yard Sale And....

I think I am going to use the low gloss tung oil, it should do a nice job. Looking at some woodworking sites yesterday, most tung oil does not even contain tung, just a rub on varnish that results in an oil finish look. I have used tung oil on walnut stocks and there is no tackiness after it dries. I used brush and spray satin polyurethane on my last cedar gun rack and a couple of other projects, it usually results in a rougher finish. -
Trout are born with yolk sacs like all salmonides and are pretty well crippled till it is absorbed. The others are born fully developed and lack the yolk sac, they are mobile quicker. You would think with the longer incubation time, they would function the opposite way.

Last summer I picked up this lazy susan at a yard sale for the roller mechanism and my next fly bench. Yesterday at the farm, Dad and I whipped out our latest creation. At first we started chopping up a walnut limb into slices for new grips for my Colt Officers model. After playing around with that for a while, we proceeded to the fly bench. We had recently cut timber so we had a nice selection of native woods to work with, but the only dressed boards were 3/4" x 6" cedar with rough cut edges. Our work shops at the farm are scattered all over so we got our exercise doing it. The radial and table saw in one building with the lumber, machine shop with drill press, and an old grain silo converted into a finishing workshop with a wood stove. We cut and sawed, shaved and squared, sanded and nailed several pieces of cedar, sassafras, and walnut into the finished product. The sassafras was the best to work with, the sweet smell as you worked the wood thru the saws filled the shop. Last night I drilled out the final holes and cut the doweling. It still needs finish sanding, routing out of the hook/bead holder, and final finish. I am still trying to decide on finish, tung oil or polyurethane. I want the natural colors of the individual woods to pop out. I really hate to seal any of it, the raw smell of the bench is great as it is. Here is the project so far, the lazy susan part is in the upper left, a rotating spool holder.

Mdc Announces Name Change And New Director

Politics has nothing to do with this discussion. I for one never brought that up. My opposition was about bleeding heart mamby pamby's that can't stand for a tree to get cut, or animal get killed, or a fish to get filleted. And for the record, for the ones that get confused, I enjoy the outdoors as it currently exists. I harvest timber for profit, I hunt for food, I trap for animal control, I fish for food and enjoyment. I take long walks thru nature, study its historical past, and wonder greatly about its future. I fight hard to protect it so my children will enjoy it the same way I have. I despise those who attack the ones that manage our outdoors based on their agenda's. -
Doing a little research tonight and came across this intriguing online book, Ozark NSR, a Homeland and Hinterland by Donald Stevens Jr. It is a good historical view of Mo. from the beginning to the 1900's. Interesting read. Ozark NSR, a Homeland and Hinterland.

MDC even allows it on some of their land also. I don't think there are any areas owned by the MDC on the Little Piney that allow camping. MDC Atlas

Saw the article and just had to come up the the title.. Looks like a bad year if you fish with crickets. Any shop owners on here had any problems getting crickets lately. Looks like one major supplier had to shut down permanently.

Are all golden eagles full size at birth? Maybe he meant a young golden eagle may be mistaken for a young bald eagle of the same size.

Mdc Announces Name Change And New Director

The original posting was slamming the MDC, the persons that are responsible for conservation, so I assumed all in support have a problem with conservation. Conservation is not only letting everything return to its natural state of balance, that will be impossible until the population of man returns to its level when nature was in harmony with itself. The agencies that protect conservation are funded by man thru the Pittman tax on sporting goods, sales tax on items purchased in this state, and licenses. If man is eliminated, there will be no taxes and licenses, so no conservation. Modern conservation management balances man's uses of the land to best conserve the natural environment. And at least in MO, I can eat most fish and not have to worry about the mercury in them like in Ark. The only thing we have is some Dioxin in rough fish in the Missouri/Mississippi River basins. -

Well how about this one. The commission created by Stoneroller in 2011 turned out to be a dismal failure. The one thing the commission forgot was that man was footing the bill to pay for the department. Since man was not allowed to use the outdoors except for animal observation, sales of licenses are non-existent and the dept folded. -

How about this one. The commission created by Stoneroller in 2011 turned out to be a dismal failure. The one thing the commission forgot was that man was footing the bill to pay for the department. Now man is almost extinct in MO. All of his habitat is protected to the point he can not eat, build a home, or make a living. The streams that used to be full of fish are barren, cleared out by the overpopulation of River Otters since trapping was abolished. Man could no longer build a house since trees were protected and he could not make lumber from them. A few have resorted to living in cave, the few that are not barred shut because of snot nosed bats. Deer and other varmits have exploded in population making it impossible to raise a crop since hunting was abolished. Livestock is not allowed to be raised, they are a blight to the natural animals of the state of MO. Besides, the reintroduction of Elk make it impossible to build a fence to keep a cow in anyway. The MDC has a purpose, the main one is educating people about the outdoors and management of all things outdoors. -

The North American Wetlands Conservation Act (NAWCA) is not state or local. It is Federal Grant money. MDC matches funds, but without the Grant, it would not happen. Ducks.org on NAWCA -
My current EDC is the Leatherman Blast and the Gerber Obsidian knife. The Blast has comfortable handles, locking blades and fits nicely in the nylon sheath on my belt. The Obsidian has a nice sturdy locking blade, can opener, bottle opener, file, and phillips/straight blade. I have collected Leatherman and Gerber for several years now. I started carrying the Leatherman PST back in the 80's and gave all of my groomsmen at my wedding a Gerber 600 which they still carry today. I have seen more problems with a Gerber design, but both are backed by excellent warranties and will be repaired or replaced from the factory free of charge. I currently about every Leatherman Multiplier made since they started and several of their knives. I have several different types of the Gerber and a good collection of their sheath knives. I have several Bucks including their prototype multitool. I have several multitools from other manufacturers. I use mine daily, I mashed some barbs earlier this evening at a flytying class. I would not be without one.

You stare at the screen because the water is stiff and your line would be too if you were trying to get it wet. Welcome.

They blew it in the Sum of All Fears, the movie strayed from the book based on political correctness. The movie came out after 9/11 and they were afraid to use the Middle Eastern Terrorists like the book did. All in all, good series of books, I think Tom Clancy jumped the shark after SSN, making a few books with technical short stories instead of a novel. The Hunt for Red October was good except for Baldwin. Looking at Wiki, there are a few titles I have not read, need to get to the library. Something I would like to see a few more movies made of would be Stephan Coonts, his Flight of the Intruder was a good movie and followed the book well too.
