    Tryst

Are you sure you spelled it right? I googled and did not come up with anything. I have not heard of a pattern by that name. Any more info?
  2. So is it the angle of the jig hook that gives the results, action? Has anyone tried a marabou bead head fly tied on a standard nymph hook? You can make a bead head lighter and easier to cast than most can find light weight jigs. I picked up a few hundred of 1/32 and 1/64 last week at Crappie Co. in Dexter. I really don't think I could go any lighter on an ultralight rod. The 1/64 should cast with a 5 wt pretty good. They had one size smaller, but looking at it, I figured I could do just as well with a 1/8" bead head.
  3. Probably just roamed here from Arkansas like the Black Bears!
  4. Oh it is legal tender. I should have laid a quarter down too. I think he was a loner, out in the yard today and no problems. Maybe it was flying south for the winter and just stopped in for a nip. By the way, I carried a shotgun in the yard today, just in case.
  5. Nope, its a hilltop skeeter, I live at 630 feet elevation. I think the neighbor cultures them to feed his goldfish. This one kept coming at me like a horsefly, he kept buzzing my head for a hundred feet. Maybe its a horsefly, skeeter cross.
  6. Having watched a few posts on here about the jigs, does anyone cast them with a fly rod? Jigs have been around for years and popular at the trout parks. I really can't remember the last time I even carried a spinning rod to a trout park or any stream around there. I am interested in using them on 11 pt river. Any ideas or hints?
  7. I went down to the garden after work and was attacked. At first I thought it was a hummingbird trying to suck nectar out of my ear. It chased me back up to the house like a horse fly. When it finally landed on my shoulder and I put a stop to his attack, I realized it may be the largest skeeter I had ever seen. It put the ones in Alaska to shame. This must be a new strain or a mutant. I blame it on the neighbors "pond" a 30' circular dugout he created a few years back that he stocked with gold fish. Since then, from July to first frost, the back yard is off limits unless you stock dip yourself in Deep Woods Off. Anybody know what the record is and a good taxidermist to mount it for me?
  8. I never think my stuff is worth as much as the Assessor does!
  9. I second that motion, the election affects all of what we do, a wrong decision could adversely affect us as outdoors persons. Much like cable TV, you have a choice what you want to read on here. If it is an election topic with a clear heading like they all have been, don't open it and read it. I personally don't read alot of threads on here that are about waters that I don't fish or methods that I don't use. I really don't get offended when someone posts a thread about a river I don't fish or a method I don't use. I have been a member on here for a long time and have enjoyed every minute of it. Phil, Dano, and the other administrators do a great job. They spend alot of time and money to provide this avenue of communication that lets us share information on all aspects of life that we outdoors types need to preserve for the future.
  10. Seems like the bum, Woods, that was interviewed still can't vote because he has a felony. Katie C-rack on CBS last night run a story about all the voters that were going to have problems voting due to typo errors in their voter registration forms. They showed the states that have new voter regulations of showing an ID to vote. Sure looks like all the states that had the voter fraud that fouled the 2000 election. Florida and Mo were there. Just because they are registered to vote does not mean they are going to get off their lazy butt and do their duty on election day. Interesting theory came up yesterday about the last minute mudslinging that is starting in October between Obama and McCain. Seems that historically, 2 candidates that get nasty at the end of the election turns off new voters and they don't even get out to vote leaving only the ones that can make an educated decision at the polling place on election day. Do I see something brewing here that will hurt Obama and his new, uneducated, first time voters? Not that the stuff that is coming out against Obama is not true. He was friends with Ayers, who was a militant that wanted to bomb the pentagon. He did go to church with the hate monger racist Rev. Wright for a long time. He is the least experienced candidate ever to run for president. He has tried to distance himself from alot of un-desireables that he has had shady dealings with like the real estate guy in Chicago and the Fannie/Freddie connections. And somebody is pumping alot of money into a candidate that in all reality should have lost out in the first rounds. Of course this should not affect anyone's decision on his ability to be President of the United States.
  11. The lower river can be great this year and is very easy to wade and fish. To limit yourself to the areas above Tan Vat will cut you out of alot of quality fishing. Below Baptist and the area around Parker's ford is great. Cedargrove is good this time of year also. Monthly stocking is still going on and the water should be good to wade below Cedargrove. A float this time of year is spectacular. Fish the park early in the morning then get out and see the river.
  12. I run across this at a yard sale this weekend and am wondering the full function or history of this box is. It is all aluminum like a Umco, but no labels or markings. The divider separates the lure tray from the upper section. The upper section has a lip on the hinge section. Just trying to figure it out. Old guy said he used it fly fishing 35 years ago.
  13. I have always wanted to go up later in the year. Glaciers start freezing up river flows start dropping. Before I die, I want to see all 4 seasons in Alaska. Maybe even one winter.
  14. She did say alot more than was necessary on some of the questions, but you have to remember, she has only been a politician for a short time and she is not a lawyer. Biden has been in politics since the 70's and has been saying the same old thing for a long time. Funny how the Dems always want to blame Bush and the current administration, yet they have been in control of Congress since 06 and have not made any headway. Bush is not running in this election, so nobody needs to worry about defeating him. Palin was plain spoken, full of energy and heart, and came across as an actual representation of the average person.
  15. They review the permits every 5 years. How much have costs rose in the last 5 years? That one is pretty easy to figure out. The other major impact that is affecting all that rely on sales taxes for survival. The major increase in our expenses have been in energy and fuel. Taxes collected on those products do not filter down to most government agencies. MDC relies on the sales tax collected on retail purchases. Most of our money lately has been going to necessities that we buy: -Fuel, which has a fixed tax that goes to roads. -Electric bills, wherever that money goes. -House payment, no taxes. -Food, lower tax that does not go to the MDC. -Retail purchases with the little money I have after the above is paid. This is where MDC gets the money for the budget in addition to permits. Counties and cities raise property taxes and nobody complains on here. Counties raise taxes on motels and restaurants and nobody complains on here. Counties raise taxes to pay for their needs. Missouri state sales tax has been the same 4.225 percent for a long time and MDC gets 1/8 of 1 cent of that for their needs. And they manage to stay within their budget. Yet we use the ramps, hunt the lands, catch the fish, and enjoy what they work to protect, our hunting and fishing heritage. (Chapter 144, RSMo) The state’s sales tax is imposed on the purchase price of tangible personal property or taxable service sold at retail. The 4.225 percent state sales tax is distributed into four funds to finance portions of state government – General Revenue (3.0 percent), Conservation (0.125 percent), Education (1.0 percent), and Parks/Soils (0.10 percent). Cities and counties may impose a local sales tax. Special taxing districts (such as fire districts) may also impose additional sales taxes. Generally, the department collects and distributes only state and local sales taxes.
  16. Well the debate is on and it has been interesting. I did not see the one Friday or have even heard how it went. Nice thing about being away from the media, you can relax and forget your troubles. Interesting tonight, questions have stirred them both up. I think Palin is commanding the debate well. Any thoughts?
  17. I don't really, just tossing in a gig about how our Government manages investments.
  18. Left out last Friday for a 3 day weekend. First stop was to be 11 pt for some wade fishing. I took my time going down, shopping at Crappie Co. and a few flea markets on the way. Stopped at Flossies Apple Barrel restaurant in Winona for lunch. Great little place, good food. Funny how the name Palin was on the locals minds there. On to 11 pt to find it still up and a little off color and I choose not to wade it. 11 pt is better from a boat unless the river is running low and clear. It had been a while since I had wade/flyfished the Spring River, so on down the road I went. I arrived at Lasseters access and geared up. There were about 6 others fishing. I entered at the ramp and worked my way down a little. I begin hooking up with stockers right away. The third fish was a nice 14" Cutbow or something. It was rainbow colored but it had the bright orange slashes under the jaws. I had turned a nice fish in this area on previous casts so I was holding fast. Everyone else was tossing hardware or bait, and I was catching the most fish. I hooked up on a nice one the next time, 21" and about 4 lbs. Its the one in the pic. I kept on for a while and kept a few for supper then left out for camp at Riverside. Probably landed about 15 total. Sat. morning, I drove back up to Lasseters and fished for a while. I walked up a little and fished one hole till the sun came up and was glaring in my eyes. I had left sunglasses at home so I was having trouble keeping track of the indicator. I did manage to land 10 or so stockers and another big male rainbow of 3 lbs. Friends rolled in about noon and we floated from Dam 3 to Riverside. Nothing special, mainly stockers. River was cloudy and full of trash. No warmwater fish this time, even though I was targeting Smallies, Walleyes, and goggle eye most of the day on Sat. Sat. night was the worst night I have ever spent in a campground. I was camped in a field back away from the river. A large church group with mainly young teenage girls was camped along the river. Around midnight, a group of boys from another camp decided to play with the girls going back and forth to the bathroom. It started off with bird calls from the boys scattered out in the field around my tent. At one time the boys gathered around my tent and I told them thru my tent to go play somewhere else. Around 1:30 and 2:30 I was wakened by a bright spotlight shined into my tent lighting it up like daylight, waking me out of a slightly drunken sleep. At 2:30, they made the mistake of using the spotlight at their cabin. When the lights came on at 3:30 and one of them spit on my tent, I yelled "I know where you camp". I grabbed a stick of firewood, jumped in the truck, and parked outside of their cabin with my headlights shining on the cabin for about 10 minutes while I knocked on the door with the stick. Amazingly, things were calm after that and I managed a little sleep. Sunday we floated the same float and had about the same results. By the time we made it to the Bayou Access, I was tired and not wanting to drive back. I decided to stay the night and take Mon. off too. Monday, I awoke, saw my buddies off and had the camp to myself almost. I walked above the waterfall and proceeded to catch about 25 fish there. I walked up to the Bayou Access and fished the riffle there, but did not catch any fish. I packed up camp and stopped in Mammoth for lunch. After lunch, I drove down to Lasseters. I walked past a guy on a cell phone and entered the hole I fished Friday. I caught 5 stockers pretty fast and then I stuck another big male rainbow. I had him in the net walking to the bank to show the guy on the cell phone. He stated he had been there since Sun and just told his wife that there was not any fish in the river. I went back out and caught several more, then drove home. All fish were caught on the Snail Pattern. All fish killed for supper Friday night were filled with snails from the gut thru the intestines. By the way, it was a beautiful fall weekend. I really wanted to go to the conclave this weekend, but it did not work out.
  19. Don't forget to protect the Social Security monies that I have been paying in all my life. I want to see a return on it when I retire.
  20. I forgot about msconfig still being on XP. It may work, although the last one to hit the office would not let go till I went to Safe Mode and killed the process. Start, run, type msconfig in the box.
  21. There you go, like others on here, when I ask a question about Obama, it is a personal attack. I am just trying to get to the truth about the guy and nobody seems to provide the answer. I really don't take offense when someone knocks McCain or the Republican party. I have always had problems with both of them. I really wanted to see Huckabee and his strong moral character in the office. McCain is like you said, but I feel he is the lesser of 2 evils. Palin is fresh blood and after 4 years we may have a new start and someone to really stand behind in 2012. She is a conservative with excellent credentials.
  22. By the way, what are some of the reasons we should vote for Obama? I have been trying to see the other side but nobody seems to let me in on it. Just trying to learn more about him. How does he stand on gun rights? How about Ecology? How about Freedom? All I have seen is inexperience and Socialism.
  23. Do you have a contact number? How many do they accomodate?
  24. Simmer down, he is here to save us all! Just roll with the flow. Just Words, Just Speaches......
  25. Lets look at that quote a little closer. MDC does not regulate the flows, SWPA and the Corps of Engineers control the discharge from the Table Rock Lake, both Federal entities. MDC just taps into a bottom discharge lake that has the depth that gives them proper temps to maintain a cold water fish hatchery program. They have installed O2 measures to control the oxygen levels in the hatchery property. How in the world could any engineer develop an Oxygeniation System that could add it to the flows of the upper Taneycomo Lake? This would have to be done by minimum flows coming out of the lake and requires cooperation of other entities outside of the MDC. Table Rock was developed for flood control and power generation. The same problem exists in all of the SWPA lakes, Norfork being the worst as it has the smallest tailwater. MDC does not have more money than Davey Crockett. The reason that other state agencies want to tap it is that for the most part, MDC keeps within their budget and has money left over at the end of the year. This makes all of the others that spend our money on worthless state projects jealous. MDC may waste money on some projects, but for the most part, it is the best tax that I have collected out of my income. Name one other state program that you like better spending your money! They stay within their 1/8 of 1 cent budget each year and they do some great things with it.
