That's new to me. I know a lot of guys who have fished the heck out of the Osage for years and have never heard of anybody ever catching a pike.

LOL....that shirt only works on river bass. It was under armor, a sherpa lined hoody and my rain suit this trip.
-
It sure makes me wish I had the money for an Ultrex, I know that.

Oh come on fellas! It helps keep a guy limbered up in that cold weather.

Posted a video if anybody is interested.

There was only four or five trucks at Coffmann when we put in and took out. We probably saw a half dozen boats all day. I love this time of year!
-
We put in at Coffmann around 9:30am and caught two limits off of three docks in a couple of hours. Main lake docks over deep water with shad was the ticket. Lure color didn't matter much, but you did have to let the bait sink down 8-12' or else you wouldn't get bit.

@Joenothum what size line are you using on your casting setups? I usually throw 5" husky jerks on a medium/fast spinning combo with 6# mono when I fish down on Taneycomo. I've always thought about throwing my bigger jerkbaits that I use for bass on my casting gear, but I haven't tried it yet. When bass fishing, I throw 10-12# mono on them so I was wondering if I needed to drop down to 6-8# for Taney's crystal clear water.
-
Man, this has my interest peaked as I have been wanting to get back down there for a while now.
-
Idiots who keep saying "OH just a few more casts" are even more prone to getting caught in that type of situation.

1860 Legend SS vbass with a 150 Evinrude Etec. You will see a lot of rigs rigs similiar to mine, but with 250hp outboard jets on the Gasconade. We run from the Missouri River all the way up to the highway 28 bridge above Jerome with no issue.

Fished the Glaize arm this past Saturday with a couple buddies. We ended up with 41 keepers. Two biggest were pushing 14", but most were 9.5-10". Not many big fish. Any dock with brush or shad was loaded with crappie, but you had to weed through a bunch of 8.5 inchers. Brush piles and standing timber is 8-25' seemed to hold better quality fish, but they didn't have as many fish overall on them. The brushpile fish were hanging right off the bottom and the dock fish were 2-6' down. Bait color didn't seem to matter, but I used blue ice and blue/chartreuse most of the time. Water temp was still in the mid 50's so there are still a lot of fish up in that 8-12' range on brush.

I have an old cheap CVA inline and a CVA Optima Elite with a 50 cal barrel that I have taken several deer with out to 148 yards. I've always just used 100gr of 777 pellets and a Hornady 250gr SST sabot. That load gives me 1.5" MOA accuracy at 100 yards. My rifles don't shoot much if any better than that so I can't really imagine gaining much from using loose powder. I'm tagged out on fire arm tags for this year so they will have to sit until next year unless I can convince the fiance to go out. She hates cold weather though so I doubt that will happen.

I picked up one of those Primos monopod trigger stick rests to try this year too. It wasn't as solid as I would have liked when using it on the forearm stock, but if I used it to support the stock and then grabbed the blind with my hand and laid the forearm on my hand, I was dang near bench rest solid. It surprised me how mich more atable I was when I rested the stock instead of just the forearm. It doesn't take up near as much space as the field pod rest either.

She was only 35-40 yards. There is a reason why I very very rarely flub up a shot on a deer with a rifle and it is because I don't do the off hand thing. My left elbow was on my left knee so I had a pretty good rest. Normally I would have had my Caldwell deadshot field pod with me, but I had left it in an elevated blind that we hunted the rest of the weekend.

It's a bit blurry because the Iphone focused on the twig in front of my buddy, but here is the video of me shooting the doe. She got some big time air after I shot her.
-
She was a good sized ol girl. I'm hunting in central/south central Gasconade County.

Should have used an Oscar Meyer cheese dog with a little mustard and sweet relish. I would have bit that.

I filled my last two rifle tags this weekend. On Friday, I shot a big doe and then a 9 pointer on Sunday morning. My buddy was in the blind with me Sunday and took the doe that the buck was following right after I dropped him. I've passed on bigger racked bucks this season than this one, but he was bumping a doe through a brushy draw and he looked pretty nice at first glance so I took him. That's the heck of it when they are pushing does around. Sometimes things just happen fast and ground shrinkage kicks in when you walk up on him. He'll still eat good though! I'm tagged on bucks since I also got one with my bow, but I may break out the Mathews and go try to fill an archery tag on a slickhead if we get some snow before season ends. I'll always go out and try for a deer with snow on the ground. Otherwise it's time to start thinking about slabs, smallies and gigging suckers for the rest of the fall/winter.

I'll see if dad will share his recipe with me. He doesn't smoke his and it is one of my favorites. Mitch, how does he do his stir fry? I make a lot of venison stir fry and always curious as to what sauces and blends other people use. Heck, I don't even know if I am technically cooking it right, but it sure does taste good. Here is what I do. I heat up olive oil or butter in a skillet and throw in sliced bell pepers and onions for a few minutes and then throw in some sliced mushrooms. I'll season them with a little garlic salt and black pepper while cooking and remove. Next, I throw in thin slices of venison for a minute or two until they are browned on each side. I'll throw the veggies back in and add in my sauce (3 parts soy sauce, 2 parts oyster sauce and 1 part sesame oil) and stir it around until everything is hot and then serve it over a bed of rice.

We do all of our grinding after season as well. Dad and I went halves on a 1.5hp grinder from Cabela's several years ago for doing our deer and hogs. It will grinding up 100# of meat in short order.
-
I've got two bucks, a doe and a fawn deboned and wraped in plastic and freezer paper and in my freezer, which is all I need till next year. Any other deer that I get this year will be given away to other folks I know who want the meat. Each deer gives me three roasts, two eye or rounds, two inner loins, two backstraps and a varying amount of grinding scraps depending on the size of the deer. I'll usually double up on the cuts on small deer so that we have enough for a meal and lunch the next day. I think I've got about 70# of grinding scraps from those deer. I'll use some for making brats, take some to Swiss for deer sticks and probably grind the rest as straight deer for making jerky. If I want to make deer burgers, I'll mix it 50/50 with some cheap 70/30 beef burger. In the past, I mixed beef tallow in when grinding, which was great for burgers, but made the jerky greasy. I do several different things with each cut so I just freeze everything as whole muscle cuts and slice it up as needed after it thaws. Slow cooking roasts in the crock pot, grilled steaks and stir fry are what I do with most of my muscle cuts. The inner loins get dipped in egg wash, floured and deep fried. We don't fry much of the backstraps anymore.

You all are having a good season! My buddy and I hunted together Saturday morning. We doubled on does and he also shot a 2.5 year old 7 pointer and all before 8am. Dad went with me yesterday evening and he shot a nice doe as well. I passed several 2.5 - 3.5 year old bucks this weekend as well. Since I got a good buck with my bow and have all the venison that we'll eat till next season, I'm going to be very picky with my rifle tag. I won't shoot another doe from this spot, but I do have another doe tag I can fill and I will try to do so on one of the two other properties that we can hunt. Neither have had any does harvested off of it yet this year.

I throw 1/8oz hair jigs on it a lot in the winter time. It handles them fine. I'm using a Pflueger President 6930x (130yds of 8# test) paired up with a 7'2" M/F 13 Fishing Omen Green spinning rod. I've got the green colored braid on my rod and regret not buying yellow all the time. I'd rather have the hi-viz stuff so I can watch my braid. It won't matter to the fish since you're using a fluorocarbon leader anyways. If you're using this on ultra light tackle, disregard what I told you. I thought this was for a 6-7' m/f spinning setup for bass fishing. The 6/2 stuff Gavin mentioned is what you need in that case.
