    What's Cooking?

I believe I've been there. If it's the same place I'm thinking of, it was very good. My baby girl went to K-State, and I still end up there every so often.

    Lyric's heard wrong

According to the official story, ‘Lucy In the Sky With Diamonds’ refers to a picture drawn by John Lennon’s son Julian ( A/K/A ‘Jude’, as in ‘Hey Jude’) in school, not some psychedelic something. I’m gonna go with that.
  3. Yes, but only in Zone 1. Or, that may be Roaring River. Probably should double check it.

    Lyric's heard wrong

Bogart Mozart was checking out the weather chart, See it it was safe outside ...
  5. So, I gather there’s more than one right answer to this question? 😁

    2018 Garden Thread

Honestly haven't paid a lot of attention to my garden this year. Maters are doing as well as they can given their lack of attention. Getting a few SunGold cherries. Two 4x4 squares of bush beans are a total loss. One variety barely germinated and they both succumbed to some kind of disease when they still had just the two cotyledons. Sucks about your Gooseberry order. I Googled them and they've got a 1.5/5 rating on Google, so you're not the first to get screwed. I got my Gooseberries and currants from Stark Bros, if I remember correctly. I lost all but one in the next couple years, and replanted more in 2015 of which only 1 survives for a total of 2 (1 gooseberry, one currant). Just haven't had great luck with them. The best one is a Hinnomaki Red gooseberry.
  8. Travis: If I was taking you through fly fishing boot camp I’d tell you to spend six months with that rig as is. You listen to these gear heads and you’ll end up blowing money reaching for tiny incremental tackle improvements that you frankly won’t be able to appreciate. Yet. Put in the time, learn to read the water, cast, do mends, perfect drifts, set the hook, play and land fish. And don’t freakin’ rule out dry flies! Now, drop and give me 20, maggot!
  9. So, it’s unanimous 😄 Seems silly to me to assume the new Cabelas outfit has a mismatched line, or even a crummy one not worth fishing. I bought two different Cabelas outfits for my kids and they were both fine, moderate action rigs. Time would be better spent learning to cast and make a good presentation.
  10. My opinion: wear that line out fishing it. A better line won’t make any discernible difference in your casting. Practice and mentoring will though.

    What's Cooking?

So, when you find something you like it’s OK to do it twice, right? Had company over and we did molasses brined pork chops again. Don’t really taste sweet or like molasses, but they’re sure juicy. On the Weber with charcoal and apple wood chips. A light dusting of Johnny’s rub and a little BBQ sauce right at the end. Bush’s original baked beans drained then molasses, yellow mustard and rub added. Done on the grill to get smoky and crusty. Peaches and cream corn that was past its prime dang it! I sure miss the fresh corn we used to get from a farm stand until they retired three years ago.

    What's Cooking?

And now for the pictures. 😄 ness 2.3 enjoys a meal that wasn’t handed to him though his car window: First time with molasses brine and it’s a keeper.

    What's Cooking?

Mollasses brined thick cut pork chops on the grill with apple wood chips. Johnny’s #3 sauce. Baked taters and baked beans.

    What's Cooking?

I did the same, except for the beer. Cheese, mushrooms, olives, brown and serve sausage, whatever was on hand.

    What's Cooking?

You betcha! I elevated it from ‘sucks a lot’ to just ‘sucks’.
  17. I was down there a couple weeks ago and there was over 2,000 bass boats going 100 miles and hour all piloted by 13 year olds heading right at me. Sounded like a freakin 747 buzzing the lake. We need to outlaw 13 year olds.
  18. I think you can chalk this up to good ol’ supply and demand.

    What's Cooking?

Must be something in the air, because I went a little hoity toity myself!
  20. Yeah, I’d like to see it but Google’s outdoor programming choices are lame. Hopefully it will show up someplace where more folks can see it.
  21. Hyperbolic nonsense. I agree with the sentiment that it should never made it past the editors. He pulled every negative he could find and wove it into a completely false story.
  22. I’ve got Google Fiber and it says no upcoming showings, but I clicked the red button and it will record it if it ever comes on. Kind of a cool feature. I had something get recorded a while back and I bet it had been a year or more since I searched and set it up.
  23. Year -- I use them on big water where I'm trying to get deep fast. But...fly line kink, large profile.
  24. Sounds like you're on the way! Congrats. Secret micro jig, huh? I'm still searching for the perfect indicator -- I think I've tried about everything out there but they all have a downside. All I want is one that I can put on and take off easily without removing the fly. One that can be adjusted for different water depths, doesn't put a kink in my line, and will float with a bunch of split shot on it. It also needs to be so small it doesn't affect my casting. If it pops off, it also needs to swim back to me.
  25. Is it faster than the current you’re in? Have you checked to see it there’s a motor back there?😄
