    Cicadas

We got them up here in KC, but they've been done for a few weeks. Never were right around my house though. Always heard them somewhere else.

    What's Cooking?

Pretty good study on dry aging at home here http://www.seriouseats.com/2013/01/the-food-lab-dry-age-beef-at-home.html

    What's Cooking?

Sauerkraut out of the crock and into the jars. Flavor is outstanding.
  5. Like I said, all I'm hearing is that quail numbers are up this year. That's up from really crummy 3-4 years ago, but up. I'll take it. Beagles are cool, but a good bird dog is a thing of beauty. I probably wouldn't hunt if it wasn't for the dogs.

    What's Brewing?

Racked it off the sediment of dead yeast and apple stuff into a clean container to finish fermenting.
  7. Not the meetings I run.
  8. No, the bigger numbers in quail are being reported all around Kansas. Last year was one of the best in many years. That means a better start on this year. It takes quail to make quail

    Our Mothers...

I get the feeling you're all sitting on the floor of JoeD's apartment passing a bong around.

    Our Mothers...

OK -- there's one that doesn't. That leaves, what, 3 billion? Admittedly, I set myself up for that one. Good on you for always taking the easy ones.

    Our Mothers...

We all learned to cook my house. Brother became a chef, sister and I love to cook still. My ex-wife texted me and said she missed my cooking. Chicks dig me.

    What's Cooking?

Alright, inspired by rps Senate Bean soup, and burned out by the onslaught of vegetables from the CSA, I went and made this because it just sounded good tonight. It's a quick ham and bean soup. Simple stuff goes into it: Shread the carrot and onion of the big slots of a cheese grater -- helps it cook fast. Throw that in a pot with the 1-½ cups water, one chicken bouillon cube, 3-4 bay leaves, and some diced ham and let it simmer for about 10 minutes. Drain the stuff off the canned beans, rinse with water a few times, and then throw them in the pot. I added some fresh parsley. Cook another 10 minutes. Voila! Pretty tasty knock-off of a soup that usually takes a lot of time to make.

    What's Cooking?

Yeah, somethings cry out for salt. Bean soup is one, tomato-based sauces are another. In a minute I'm going to post my 20-minute bean soup recipe -- scratches the itch without the long prep and cooking time.

    What's Cooking?

IIRC, the true 'Senate Soup' recipe is very plain, without veggies other than onion. But, we all know how that goes. Still the same, your recipe looks better rps -- more the way I like it.
  17. Did he go peacefully on the shovel, or did you have something to contain him with during the relocation?
  18. Is it insured? Ever heard of Jewish lightening?
  19. I'd check with the authorities first and get their read on it. Wouldn't be surprised if they are hard to get on your side though -- they're not necessarily mediators. Then I'd get hold of an attorney and have them explain your legal options to you and craft an appropriate demand to this Gibson guy. I would think a competent lawyer could be found for $100 to $150 an hour, and could get the ball rolling in an hour or two. Make sure he knows the law before you engage them. It's no fun paying a lawyer to learn the law, which they just love to do. It's also no fun to pay a lawyer to sit there and gab on your dime. I know these things are no fun because I just did both.

Red beans and rice...do it for me, if not for yourself.

    What's Cooking?

I've done it -- with good results. Here's my 12-step method 1) remove batteries from smoke detectors 2) open doors and windows 3) get a cast iron skillet screaming hot 4) preheat oven to hot, hot 5) do a couple minutes on each side, then into the oven 6) have a friend or relative on standby to call 9-1-1 7) get a triple thick oven mit to pull out skillet and check temperature 8) put it back because you missed on the temperature 9) repeat 7, 8 until cooked to your liking 10) Remove from skillet, plate and rest 10 minutes 11) place screaming hot skillet on back of stove with triple thick oven mit on handle 12) Put orange 'Caution Hot!/Precaución Caliente!' cone in front of oven/stove until the danger is passed
  23. Seems like it would be more fun to escort the bikini-clad ladies off the boat and go to dinner and a movie. Or maybe skip the dinner and movie.
  24. Ok, I saw some pictures. I'm assuming they come equipped with the bikini-clad babes? Because other that that I don't really see what you'd do with it.
