I'm gonna tell! Internet gambling is a no-no
  2. Thanks for the detailed response. That sounds excellent. I'm sure the pork adds a little fat/flavor. 45 degrees in the basement -- nice! Oh, the things I could do! Have you ever seen the Alton Brown videos on smoking in a cardboard box or flower pot? He uses an electric hot plate as the heat source, then an aluminum foil pan with wood chips/sawdust on top. I've never tried either, but it looks like it would maybe give you an option if your gas heat gets it too hot.
  3. Why ask Chief to do it? I've got fingers too. Just sent this: "Hi Brent, I’m a KC resident, and I’ve read and enjoyed your articles in the Star for years. I’m a member of the Ozark Anglers internet forum, which is owned by Phil Lilley from Lilley’s Landing on Taneycomo. There are several threads there that discuss these pieces of legislation, and you may find them worth your while to read through. I know you’ve written on the topic recently, but my understanding is that there is additional legislation being considered that could impact stream access for individuals. I wanted to write so I could direct you to some good discussions I’ve seen going on there regarding this. I’m sure you’ve seen internet forums, and know that there will be wide-ranging opinions (some are pretty entertaining), but there is some solid discussion mixed there too. Here’s a couple links: Several threads in here: http://forums.ozarkanglers.com/forum/121-conservation-issues/ I hope you can continue to help keep the MO legislature’s feet to the fire on these topics. Thanks for your consideration. "
  4. Plus -- it's on the interweb!
  5. Wow -- that sure looks good. I would like to hear more about the process. Seasonings? Fat ratio? Hot or cold smoke? (it looks like your smoker's big enough for cold). Was there a cure? I'm assuming this doesn't need to be refrigerated? I've made jerky and summer sausage before, nothing like this though.
  6. Hey -- there's an idea for cutting MDC costs ...
  7. Man, that's sweet right there. I loved that smile when she turned to the camera. Also, reaching out with one finger to touch it. She was stripping that in like a pro, too! Nice job Ivey!
  8. That sure is a heavy beast @150 pounds. The propel system looks cool, but it would probably just be in the way on a stream. I didn't see a price, but from my experience, Hobie products are pretty pricey.
  9. Why fish, when fish sticks are so cheap and easy to get?
  10. Don't want to take away from Chief's message, but thanks for the compliments. Tim the Enchanter reminds me of how we can be easily impressed and deceived by flashy things that have no real substance. The signature quote reminds me that we need to keep our perspective when we criticize others, because we've got an awful lot of baggage ourselves.
  11. Yeah, I get it now. We weren't on the same page. I start most stuff indoors and then transplant it. Heat mats help with germination. Raised beds and heavily amended soil add up to less work, no sore muscles, and happy plants.
  12. They could just be stuck in a hole in the ground. The root balls are pretty small. Here's a link to this particular variety with more info on how to grow them. I'll hold on to them for a while.
  13. Good going, Chief! Maybe that will get the attention of KC and StL media and gather some steam. The outdoors guy at the Kansas City Star is Brent Frazee -- bfrazee@kcstar.com
  14. Yeah, the KS pre-season counts were up and I saw a lot more birds. I saw several at a spot in Atchison County, MO early in the season too. I purposely missed because I felt sorry for them.

    Who's Reading What?

Glad you did -- sounds interesting. I'm starting to think, maybe, those Kennedys didn't always play by the rules Welcome to the forum.
  16. Not sure I'm following. The pads are strictly indoors. I'm starting stuff indoors for transplanting later.
  17. Last call...these go in the trash Thursday.......
  18. Heck, I want to eat those beauties!! Nice going.
  19. I got to get me some of that floral carbon leader!
  20. Interesting article -- thanks for sharing it.
  21. I have read and re-read this post. I thought that it would make sense if I let it fester for a while and then re-re-read it. After weeks of noodling it over, I cannot make any sense of it--but worse, I'm afraid it shows we have a disturbed member here at OAF. Phil, please handle this. Thanks.
  22. Sweet. There's something kinda cool about growing in a covered bed. I've got some hoops and plastic, but it's a pain to set it up and maintain. I need to do something permanent that's easy to store. Pepper seeds are notorious for slow germination. I popped for some heated seed mats this year, and it seems to help. I also use them to raise the temp for rising dough. Glad I did it.
  23. Mr. Carlin -- time to get Dr. Hartley to up your dosage.
