  1. Yeah, it's easy to read it that way. But after Mizzou left the conference, the reasons to play were pretty much the same as against just any non-conference team. What's the upside?
  2. That one comment from Bill Self sure gets dragged out a lot. You realize it's a perfectly reasonable response right? And, yeah, KU football is a joke. Why do you even care?
  3. Oh no--I've changed my evil ways. you boys have at it. the Kentucky coach or the delicious batter-fried squid?
  4. I'm gonna scout some for ducks fairly close to home this weekend. It would be a good weekend to go back out west, but I'm behind at home after two weekends away. Still seeing decent reports on quail and pheasant.
  5. Well, hasn't this thread gotten stoopid.
  6. I always figured you for a draft dodger. Good for you for registering.
  7. Naw. You guys squandered one of the best rivalries ever, for a little more money and because you weren't getting enough attention. I hear there are hopes of a rivalry with AR. I guess it's because you share a border them.
  8. Yeah. It was a joke too. They suck, it's embarassing, and having a perennial favorite basketball team does NOT make up for it. You gotta have respectable football. This ain't the east coast.
  9. Gene doesn't know much about the KU football mentality. They know they suck -- they did it as a joke, and they've done it before. They also used to throw oranges on the field the first game of the year.
  10. Boy, that better be AR, because those boots ain't MO approved

    City Trout

    Yep.
  12. How do they taste?
  13. Whew. Glad I'm from KS.
  14. I'm still using my Panasonic VHS for all my video. Can't do the head mount thing -- too heavy.
  15. Jargon. Good word for it
  16. Yep. It's easy to focus on the negatives, but we've got it really darn good. And a big part of it is due to the guys that fought/fight. Spoke to a Korean vet yesterday who was working as a greeter at Wal-Mart. Said he spent 10 months on a mountain near the DMZ. They had orders not to shoot, but the NK soldiers always did. Also, said they'd sneak into camp at night and try to cut soldiers' throats -- got two one night. It ain't the movies. I didn't appreciate it when I was a kid. My dad was in Korea, but we barely talked about it. Two uncles in WWII and we never talked. Another uncle Viet Nam vet -- he doesn't want to talk about it. He just refers to it as the time he went camping for 12 months.
  17. Right there with you. I wouldn't enjoy it, and probably wouldn't do it, without dogs. If I was to rank things it'd be 1) being out there 2) enjoying the dogs enjoying themselves 3) seeing them find birds and work them well -- it's so cool to see it click 4) shooting a bird so they can go get it 5) bringing home some meat. Here's a few pics: Resting while I get the car loaded: Some darn fine looking ground: What it might look like if my dog had a bird to point: Regardless of the action, everybody was tired and thirsty: Skunk lived in the second band of grass, beyond the trees, near the right side of this pic. I went there because last year I scared up a covey of quail in that draw:
  18. Just scenery.
  19. I've read quite a few reports of people getting into birds, including quail this year. There was quite a bit of shooting early Saturday a mile north of me in a WIHA. I think the numbers are up, but that's relative. I saw 7 hens and one rooster in NW Missouri weekend before last. I missed. I'm hoping that occurred over many years?
  20. You're right. Wounds are a little fresh right now though.
  21. 8. Ready for ducks now.
  22. Abbreviated KS opening weekend report: 1. Drove 3-1/2 hours to seedy motel in north central KS. 2. Saturday hunted private land and some walk in. One hen sighted. 3. Sunday morning both dogs sprayed by skunk. Went to dispatch Mr. LePew, gun wouldn't fire. 4. Drove 45 miles back to motel for some cleanup. Left $40 and an apology note for the cleaning ladies. 5. Drove 3-1/2 hours home with windows open. 6. Spent rest of day cleaning and re cleaning. 7. Today spent $90 to have the car interior cleaned.

    Chowder!

Hmmm. I just made a butternut squash soup with a new recipe that used cream cheese. I like the idea, but it was too sweet and overpowering in the recipe I did. I can see it in a chowda.

    Chowder!

I've always though of clam chowder as potato soup with clams and juice. When I make it its roux-based, but pretty much like rps' recipe. Any mild white fish suits me.

    Chowder!

Alright, here's response number 2. Pony up! F&f-- that's pretty much how I do it. I'd add some thyme, might do it a little differently too, but that's good stuff.
