Yeah, I remember the snow. We got about an inch here. We also had a hard freeze 4/22 but I had everything covered up. The way this winter has been I wouldn't be surprised if it's late again.

I started my onions from seed the last couple years. Started them inside In late January. Seed Savers Exchange is where I got mine.

Those beds under glass are sure nice this time of year. I've got a cold frame that will fit over one of my beds. I've got to add some new plastic for the top to add, then it'll go out there. I wanna get the peas started because they won't do well after it heats up. I've got maters, peppers, lettuce, cabbage, collards, and a bunch of onions going under the lights. I had real spotty germination on the peppers so I'm way behind on them. I'm itching to get things going.
  4. DNR bought the property back in the fall -- that's the last I heard. Former proprietor is in prison, if I remember right.
  5. That's not me -- not familiar with 'mwt'.

    Shockers!

Always a fan of the underdog...and can't root for guys like Calipari, no matter what. Did you see the KU kid? Balling his eyes out when they were down, all smiles when they got close, big tears when they lost. Pretty cute little guy.
  7. That's solid, common sense advice right there. Figure out the pros and cons of your boat before you pimp it out.

Yeah -- I went back to raised beds a few years ago after a hiatus. Best thing I ever did.
  9. Exactly! He teaches the techniques, and they apply to just about all patterns old and new. Dubbing, palmering, hair wings, quill wings, deer hair. I just grabbed it off the shelf and thumbed through it. I think it's still a good book. I know I've pulled it off the shelf many times over the years.
  10. Oh yeah, I keep all this stuff. They're kept in the file I build on everybody who has wronged me here. You never know when you'll need it. Chief's got his own file cabinet.

...is running behind. The weekends have been pretty cold this month, so stuff I usually have in the ground by now isn't out. We actually had snow this morning. Temp was mid-40s today; we should be 55-60. Snow forecast for tomorrow. I'm tired of this! Bunch of stuff under the lights that'll do fine until I get them out. But I like to get some stuff going outside about now too-- like peas, radishes, lettuce, cabbage, beets, carrots. Too cold and wet right now. Where are you gardeners in all this? Anything interesting planned for this year?
  12. Obsolete? Kinda depends on your perspective, jd. I'm still a book reader, and always will be I suspect. You can spend (waste?) a lot of time surfing the web for fly patterns or techniques -- I think it's a case of too much information most of the time. I'd bet you can find 50-100 videos on tying a pheasant tail nymph. Add to that a little ADD, and your search can fork out into a billion topics that have nothing to do with tying.
  13. This one still hurts.
  14. I haven't kept up on tying books. The one I learned on was by Eric Leiser. It's about 30 years old, but a good one.
  15. Nothing wrong with Woolies! I'd suggest you get a good tying book -- one that covers the basic styles: dries, nymphs, streamers, wet flies, poppers. I assume you've got a vice, some tools, threads, hooks, etc. Then get the materials you need to tie the ones you're most likely to use. On my list would probably be Stimulator, Madame X, Elk Hair Caddis, Adams dries; Pheasant Tail, Hare's Ear, Copper John, Prince nymphs; Clouser Minnows, Wooly Buggers, Thunder Creek streamers; I don't fish wets much, but I'v always got a few soft hackles with me. Poppers are fun to 'tie' from styrofoam or cork bodies. Check the suggestions for materials you'd need, but I'd say get some buck tail, elk hair, marabou, gold wire, hare's mask, pheasant tails, at a minimum.
  16. Nice to hear. Some of my earliest trout fishing was on the Meramec, so it's nice to see some positive news from there.
  17. Sorry to hear that, man. She's a beautiful lady. I hope she's comfortable, content and has her loved ones with her. Prayers sent for her and you.
  18. Yeah! Glad that worked out. Pugs are sweet dogs.
  19. LOL
  20. Who let them heathens in here?
  21. I use IPB Buddy https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/ipb-buddy/id458328962?mt=8 and like it fine. I tried Tapatalk first, and settled on IPB.
  22. I love to read, surf and play card games on the iPad -- that's about it.
  23. Nice! Get them out there and let them have fun. THIER fun. Plant the seed. I miss those days , but they'll circle back.
  24. That's the first typo-free post I can remember seeing from you Old Plug!
  25. N into the a I sure can't explain that behavior. iPad 'keyboards' take some getting used too, and the autocorrect is a pain a lot of the time. You might go into the accessibility settings and see if you can adjust something to make it work better for you. Or stick with the Mac.
