    What's Cooking?

I have more meat puns running through my head, but I'd better stop

    What's Cooking?

Yep! Pure bred and corn fed!

    What's Cooking?

I gotta go with frozen, but I'll take canned in a pinch. I've got my corn buyer up in IA right now surveying things. If our stringent quality requirements are met, she'll make a buy and deliver a load to me Sunday

    What's Cooking?

Mushroom, tomatoes and whole milk mozzarella.
  5. The Cadillac of worms!
  6. BBLM! And, that's as close to a political post as you'll get from me
  7. Finally! https://www.kctv5.com/news/local_news/worries-over-racism-waterways-inspire-push-to-rename-fish/article_8010fcbc-9abd-5911-8d67-c441c7ebd7f6.html?fbclid=IwAR2srmO2UuPlBk4vJOXsBwMGiDajq5xRMBqDW4vjwDB7nHxcGtBsqyP4oYE
  8. Kip had the alter-ego Gregor from Germany, so I cooked up Danielle from France. She was supposedly a dancer from Branson who wanted to learn to fish. It got weird fast. She was short lived.
  9. The Wayback Machine. Here's a capture from 2/14/2003: http://web.archive.org/web/20030214011555/http://www.conservationcafe.com/ You can click on the date scale in the upper left and see different capture days, but it's usually just the home page -- if you click down into the forums or postings it's usually a dead end. Kinda fun to see the names. Paul Dallas is there @ColdWaterFshrin the trout forum.

    What's Cooking?

What is this—some kind of peas offering?? Too late! 😄
  11. Wow, thanks for that! Northern NM is pretty special. Beautiful country, desert and skiing within an hour’s drive. Mountains, snowmelt and trout. Sure, we missed some stuff along the way. There were some pretty long drives just to get to our destinations, so side trips weren’t always possible for these old folks. We’re pretty happy with what we did fit in though. Yes, KS is vast and I can’t help but think about the folks that toughed it out homesteading out there or just crossing it. Kinda cool that you can find shark’s teeth in the chalk bluffs in the area around Castle Rock.

    What's Cooking?

One of our favorites: pork green chili on corn tortillas with eggs and cheese.
  13. Good luck! ness 2.1 loved K-State. I’ll never forget the first time she came home she told me guys would actually hold the door for the girls 😀
  14. Some things go without saying. Except in Arizona:
  15. Do like we did -- use bottled water
  16. Cool site. It has answered a long-standing question for the ness family
  17. Thanks and you're welcome. Hope you'll share some of your adventure with us. Telluride is a cool little town, but we've only just passed through. Glad you'll get to spend some time in the Flint Hills! Definitely do the Tallgrass National Prairie Preserve, and see if you can get on one of the free Park Service bus tours out into it. They can get you away from everything for some spectacular views, and can also get you up close to the bison. Hays House in Council Grove is a good stop for lunch. It's on Highway 56, which IS the Santa Fe Trail right there.
  18. ...and, access to streams in IA is very good. A little like the KS Walk-In Hunting program.
  19. Thanks everyone. It was a good trip with a nice balance of down time and doing/seeing things. The fishing was a blast and the guide did a great job. He spent most of his time with Kathy as I requested, but he’d hustle over and net a fish every time I caught one. Good kid. Shane at Land of Enchantment Fly Fishing. Saw lots of cool stuff, though some things were still closed. Food was hit-and-miss. We had some pretty bad New Mexican food, and a little good. Had a great meal in Hays, KS. Had agave wine margaritas at a couple places. Delicious and less strong and tart than a regular margarita. Gonna try those at home soon. Also did a couple shots of mezcal along the way, my first since college. Didn’t eat the worm this time either😄

    2021 Garden Thread

    Sungold cherries? We love ‘em.
  21. I'd start with a smallish Stimulator with a pheasant tail dropper.
  22. I've always based out of Decorah. Cool little town and tons of streams within an easy drive. Now that I think of it, I also crossed into MN on one trip there. @FishnDave should have info. Also search 'Driftless' in this forum -- there are a few trip reports.
  23. I've been up to the NE Iowa part of the Driftless Area a few times but have no experience in WI. I'd love to get up there though. I've heard the same as you -- that Viroqua and that fly shop are a good starting point.
