  1. I love seeing them and it never gets old. We had a flyover of some KC hospitals last week, but I'm pretty far west and didn't see any of it. A-10s and a Stealth bomber, I believe. I live about 5-6 miles south of the NASCAR track so we usually see something when there's a race. Sometimes we'll see some before a Chiefs game because they'll do a west to east straight line over Arrowhead. Always cool!
  2. Bok choy is a brassica like cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower and turnips. According to my trusty All About Vegetables book (remember books?) they're about 60 days to maturity and can tolerate light frost. So you'd plant them mid-August-ish. Think I'm gonna give it a try this fall. BTW -- frost warning tonight her in KC.
  3. Well, with the media flogging the story as much as they are, we can bet there will be some hoarding. We did load up on meat yesterday ... to beat the dang hoarders to it
  4. How weird -- 4 minutes after I posted that my Doctor's office called and said I'm due for a visit.
  5. Doc mentioned shingles shot a while back, but I kinda thought I'd wait a while because I don't like to be an early adopter. I think I'm gonna put the shingles shot on my to-do list. I had shingles in 2009 and don't want it again.
  6. Blood transfusions spread it as well.
  7. Look at how the information has evolved. We’re learning every day. We’re going to learn more. We’re only a few months into this. Saw a story yesterday regarding HIV/AIDS It was 2 years before we even knew it was a virus. 6 years before a treatment was developed. Not being a doomsdayer biut we are just beginning this process.
  8. That’s a nice looking and good sized head!!
  9. They were all great. Petty and Harrison left us too soon. Appreciate Jeff Lynn more after seeing all the non-ELO stuff he’s done.
  10. @BilletHead I have one video on my phone -- Take Me On. Still think that's pretty cool.
  11. And now for something completely different: Watched a BBC series called 'Victorian Kitchen Garden' several years back. Got to thinking about that the other day and tried to find it online. Could only find a couple episodes out of the 12, but was reminded how much I liked the music that accompanied it. Actually found many renditions of it online. I'm not really a classical music guy, but do have some in the library.
  12. Watched a few on YouTube the other day. Kathy says my hair looks like Tom Johnston of the Doobie Brothers
  13. I think I’ll pass on smoking and homelessness and just take my chances.

    What's Cooking?

Had a taste for seafood so we did some scallops and shrimp. Scallops in butter, shrimp in butter and garlic. Sweet taters and a salad with ranch. This was good!! Then Kathy whips out this puff pastry and blueberry thing. Oh my!!

    What's Cooking?

It’s called depression cake because everybody who doesn’t get some goes into a deep depression 😀 Man, that looks good!!
  16. Drove around my neighborhood and there was no other damage. We must have just been had the worst of it -- my maple out front was really whipping around and I was afraid we would get some damage but didn't. Herre's a better view of the tree next door. It was two trunks starting near ground level aw
  17. Wow! That' the size of a very large pea!
  18. When the neighborhood was developed about 20 years ago the developer put a Bradford Pear in every front yard as part of the lot price. At the time most of us thought it was a good look and liked the idea. I even bought a second one for the other side of the driveway. Wouldn't do that again. I'd estimate there are about ⅔ of them left and practically none of them aren't without some kind of damage. I lost about ⅓ of one a couple years ago and had it cut down and the stump dug. Fought suckers for about a year. The other one survives so far. Won't be sad when it goes. They're nice looking for a few days in early spring, the rest of the time they're a pain with suckers and fruit. There are undeveloped areas around here where they are very thick.
  19. Yeah -- MyRadar is a good app -- I've got it too.
  20. I'm a proponent of learning to use what you've got, make the most of it and don't lust over the latest thing. Both our cameras and post-processing apps are better than anything Ansel Adams, Dorothea Lange, Henri-Cartier Bresson or Robert Capa ever had. My biggest hurdle is making the time to go do it. One of the things I'm looking forward to in retirement is photography.
  21. We just had a heck of a blow here. Neighbors Bradford Pear snapped about 8 feet up the trunk. Now it's laying partly in my side yard. Lot's of pea sized hail too. After things calmed down I checked the garden and it made it through ok somehow. More on the way for us though.
  22. Time to stop reading online reviews on equipment you already own. No good comes from that. And stay away from dpreview.com Things have advanced sooo much in the last 10 years. I think the thing I like most is the high ISO performance and the auto ISO feature. I don't have to worry or fiddle much with ISO anymore. I popped for a Fujifilm 55-200 f/3.5-4.8 (70-300 equivalent) with in-lens stabilization a while back. Glad I did -- nice lens, sharp, well built. Gonna use that a lot.
