Don’t know the origin of the recipe. Her parents were both from Ireland though.

You’re welcome. Transcribed that from her recipe card and left the directions and ingredients as she had written them. I’m sure you can decipher 😄

I’m happy to share it! Here you go: Grandmother Mildred’s Date Nut Pudding Ingredients Pudding 1 cup chopped dates 1 cup boiling water 1/3 cup butter (6 tablespoons) 1 cup white sugar 1 egg 1 teaspoon soda 1 cup chopped pecans 1 cup flour Sauce 2 cups sugar ¼ pound butter 1 pint light cream Directions 1. Take your cup of chopped dates and pour your cup of boiling water over. Add soda mash to a pulp. 2. Take sugar and butter and cream together. Add the egg and nuts. 3. Combine the two mixtures and add flour. 4. Bake 45 minutes to 1 hour at 325 degrees. 5. In double boiler cook over low heat for 3 hours. Stir occasionally.

Well, in all the scurrying around I didn’t get any pictures. Had 8 adults coming over Christmas Eve. Started with spiced pecans, shrimp cocktail, and various stuff on a relish tray. Main course was pork loin stuffed with sausage, cheese and spinach and smoked courtesy my baby brother. Green beans, cheesy potatoes, honey glazed carrots, and yeast rolls. Dessert was chocolate pie and two ness family traditions: Scottish shortbread I’ve been making for close to 30 years inspired by family friend, baby sitter and real live Scot Mrs. Gilfedder. (Butter, flour, sugar; my dad loved this.) And my grandmother’s date nut pudding with a warm butter, sugar and cream sauce. It’s not pudding pudding, it’s the cake kind. We had it every Christmas Eve growing up and I’ve carried on the tradition. Not sure when it started exactly but easily 50 years and could be much longer. Kids are on their way over this morning. Daughter’s making a biscuit and gravy breakfast casserole, I’ve got breakfast meats and some fresh fruit to cut through all that heaviness. Mimosas/poinsettias and coffee with Irish cream, not necessarily in that order. Then I’ve got to rush over to Kathy’s for her family Christmas. Dang! She got engaged yesterday, so we’ll have that to talk about with everyone. Thanks for reading to the end 😄. Merry Christmas everyone! Enjoy the time with family, friends and food!

Of course the customer pays for marketing. And parts, labor, commissions, executive salaries, everything. That’s where the money comes from.

ness 2.3 is working part time at Bass Pro in Olathe. I guess Johnny Morris was in the store today buying a tree stand. As crazy as that sounds, that's the story. Took time to talk to a grunt, sign his hat and even get a picture. Which I think is pretty dang cool of him.

After thoroughly enjoying Lonesome Dove again I’ve got the prequel Comanche Moon queued up tonight. And laundry. High Noon is next if I make it that far.

I always loved the old TiVo commercial...A guy's sitting there watching a football game and it comes down to a last-second field goal to win the game. He pauses the TV, runs down the block to church, kneels down and prays. Comes back, presses play and they win the game.

You StL and LOZ guys sure seem to know a lot about hookers. I might drive over to one of these happy hours just to take pictures. And grab a hot salami before heading back. Or is that what the hookers are for?

But you won’t be there 😞

Sounds like a great idea if it was in KC. 😄

What are your fishing goals for 2019??

Native trout well-caught on a dry fly way west of here. Same as it ever was. -
Just checked -- I've still got it on my phone Coming your way.

Hah! No worries -- I was talking about wrench, but he cleaned up his post. It involved things I wouldn't quote and can't get my fingers to type for clarification.

@Phil Lilley is there a way to ‘ignore user’ at the topic level, or do I gotta go all the way? 😄

Welp, let's see it this works.... We're all bombarded with negative stuff -- constantly it seems. Lately I've been trying to push that aside as much as possible and find the good stuff. I record CBS Sunday Morning every week, and they've usually got a couple feel-good stories each time. There's a 30 second segment at the end that is nothing but nature with no dialogue. I haven't resorted to watching the Hallmark channel yet, but over the last few months I watched all 235 episodes of Leave it to Beaver. So...in the spirit of the season, and in the hope of brightening our OAF lives, who can find some Good Stuff to post about? I'll start with this story I saw this morning: https://www.cnn.com/2018/12/18/us/george-hw-bush-sponsored-filipino-child-trnd/index.html

The Hill is a pretty cool place/institution. Been there a handful of times, but only for dinner at Zia's. Last time there -- about a year ago -- it was a little disappointing. On a float trip several years ago I remember Gavin brought a "King of the Hill", which was a new term to me. We've got a place pretty near where I work that cranks out darn good Italian sandwiches -- Jasper's.

Tell me about this hot salami sandwich please.

Made a double batch of Irish cream to give as gifts. This stuff is gooood. Hard to get every last drop out of the bucket, but I gave it a heck of a try. Chicken, andouille and shrimp gumbo after the project was completed.

I like your winter trip reports because they come without nipples. 😄

I think you’d really like it. The book is great too. It’s on Netflix’s DVD service. I’ve never heard of if. I love the Netflix DVDs. I think it’s $13 a month for as many movies as I want, with two at home at a time. Very rare they don’t have a movie. I love the special features on DVDs.

1948 version added to the queue. Not familiar with that one.

I feel like I get good streaming of Netflix through Google Fiber, but it's pretty pricey. Between an older plasma TV, Blu Ray/DVD, Netflix and DVR-ing Turner Classics and other stuff I'm getting more than I need with very good quality audio and video. Just not in the mood to change my setup. Went to see First Man in the theater a few weeks ago. One of these newer ones with the big recliner chairs and humongous screens. The screen was actually too big -- the picture was grainy. Oh, and I have added probably 25 movies to my queue after going through this thread again. Some of you guys are getting notices that I liked posts from 2-3 years ago I'm sure. Many of those I took off the like and added it back to create a new notice. Some great stuff in here. Oh, oh, and I need to add Hud to my list here.
