  1. Haven fished Paint, but know of it. Agree on the map. Also have a trout streams of WInnehiek County that's helpful.
  2. What stream? I find myself up there about once a year.

    What's Cooking?

Got the itch for green chili, so got some Anaheim chili’s, tomatillos and pork. Scorched the chili’s and tomatillos under the broiler, then blended together, Browned the chops, then some onion. Chili mixture, diced pork, chicken stock, cumin and garlic and braised for a couple hours. Burrito last night, over eggs this morning. Dang (I still dang myself).

...and, yeah, I remember the swai/tilapia comment, bud. 😄

    What's Cooking?

Aww, pshaw! This thread is about cooking. Most of us get our food at the grocery store. Continued disparaging comments like this will be ..... ...well, I dunno. I’m withholding likes and dangs until further notice 😄

    What's Cooking?

Here’s how we would have done it when I was in grad school: That part with the pepper doesn’t taste as good as the rest. So let’s not do that anymore. 😄
  7. Great job, dad/granddad. Keep talking it up to that little guy, and his mom. Don't let him forget what a stud he is :D!
  8. This is one of those 'Why didn't I think of that?' moments. Love the BBQ rotisserie!! Looking forward to seeing some of the finished products.
  9. Negligence trumps liability waivers, I think. I guess we'll see.

    What's Cooking?

Well, I minored in biology so I feel I’m qualified to refute the whole pepper thing. So there. 😄

    What's Cooking?

Oh no, pepper on cantaloupe too??? I think there may be some disagreement in the scientific community on that one. No pepper on fruit. Period. And, the proper accompaniment to cantaloupe is Breyer’s vanilla bean ice cream. Your’re welcome again. 😄

    What's Cooking?

Well, you both are jacking it up! Cube them maters before you throw them on top of full-fat cottage cheese. Just salt, no pepper. You’re welcome.

    What's Cooking?

Agree. I’ve had them one other time. More to say I did it than because of how they taste. Both times it’s been heavily breaded, thinly sliced tasteless something.
  14. I’ll spare you my opinions on cheap versus good quality, amber versus gray, Action versus whoever, since you already popped for the glasses. (Besides, if you’d heeded MY comments in previous threads here you’d have a different pair of glasses and be thrilled with your choice 😄). I think a premium brand like Costa will likely have customer service with real, English-speaking reps who would probably listen to you and maybe even have a solution. I’d start there.

    What's Cooking?

It’s more, ‘I can’t look at that, much less eat it.’ But you guessed correctly and I’ll mail you a cookie in early December 😄

    Whatchya Drinking?

Do like a martini now and then. Been over on the vodka side more lately because Kathy doesn’t like gin (it’s like drinking Christmas trees!😄). I’ve trended toward more vermouth recently — now about 3/1. You recommended dilly beans as a garnish some time ago, and I like that. Found these locally — they’re not dilly, but really crunchy with just a little heat to them: http://collinschicago.com/16-oz-gourmet-pickled-green-beans Need to try with bitters.
  19. Smart phones do take great up close, people or fish snapshots. And decent close to mid-range landscapes or group photos. But when you’re alone and trying to get a fish pic they’re hard to handle when operating with one hand. A Pop Socket makes it easier, but is not as good as an ergonomic camera with a strap. A camera will give you versatility, durability, water resistance or be water proof — but in many snapshot situations a phone will do as good, or better —just don’t drop it too often. I think the vast majority of people now are taking photos and never looking at them on anything but a phone or maybe a tablet, so a phone is fine. If you want more than snapshots or plan to enlarge, print or view on a computer or TV, a camera, in the right hands, will produce much better results. Ronnie —too bad about your camera. That shouldn’t have happened.
  20. Yeah, good call. And taking junior for a trip to BP or Cabelas just for him—priceless. He’ll always remember it.
  21. Those are some cool antiques from the days when automatic reels were popular. But... if junior is interested in fly fishing, maybe pop for a beginners combo from Cabelas or something like that. That gets you rod, reel, line and leader and will set him on the path to fly fishing. The automatic reels are gonna require a line, then a rod, etc. Antique tackle is cool but not as practical as new stuff. Separate the two.
  22. Well, hell. Just when I thought I had the perfect, idyllic solution to the nastiness I see this in episode 19 of season 3: Dang it!!

    What's Cooking?

Well, I’ve got a loaf of bread and some Muenster cheese to use up. Picked up some deli beef and Anaheim chiles. Dang. And, I love a vodka tonic this time of year... ...or two. ness is o-fishully on vacation!
  24. Geez, how’d this thread get so off topic? 😄
  25. I’ve said it before: that rustic look is just what I’m looking for. My gawd, if I’d bet if we turned you loose with some cement and a trowel at Stonehenge you’d want to square all the stones up So go polish your deck if that’s what floats your boat. Or, go polish the bishop if you’re already done with that. 😄
