I didn't but Pat was complaining this morning. We went out this morning and shot three. A move in the field this afternoon or in the morning to accommodate where the birds were this morning.

It's blending in really well isn't it.😆

Beast! Well done Pete. -
A fine opener, Could of shot a bit better but limits for Pat, @curtisce and myself. My empty chair, Pat across the field, Curt and his watermelon camo bag, then our take and Curt grinning over the pile of birds.

I'm liking that and peach anything is good by me. Thank you Mrs RPS

Not yet. There was some thinking out of The box but most were just substitute of squirrel instead of everyday meats in common recipes. Only a certain percentage has to be squirrel.

I haven't got time to do the cooking. I just liked looking at everyone else cook and taste the samples. Some were actually really good especially the ones with an Asian flair. Lots of people are there to sample. Lines were long and the food disappeared fast.

Two of these squirrels were old. Old Grays can be as tough or tougher than fox. A big baller and a old female that had had many litters. About 2.5 hours and these fell off the bone. Braising actually makes them go quickly at the simmer. If you are just frying like you said the younger the better!

Let us know how it works out. I have tried springers and not had much luck with real accuracy. Yours might be a better one. A good scope is a must. Springers are hard on scopes. .22 firearm is the gold standard when it comes to squirrel I know but don't underestimate the power of a PCP air rifle. Accuracy with a fine-tuned one is off the charts. Plus, so quiet. Slugs with a barrel made for shooting them are even better than pellets.

Today's dish through pictures. As simple as dick and Jane. See squirrel dead, See squirrel dressed, rinsed and patted dry, See squirrel squirrel browning in Olive oil, VID_20250826_130327164.mp4 See splatter screen keeping me from getting splattered, . Don't see me pulling browned squirrel out and setting aside, See onions browning in the same olive oil, Then after browning onions see me add a whole head of garlic cloves and some sliced hot peppers (note add more because we couldn't detect heat or flavor). See me saute with onions for a couple minutes. See me nestle the browned squirrel in the Dutch oven with a couple bay leaves, Imagine me simmering with the lid on for two hours or until fork tender, Imagine me dumping in frozen peas and letting them warm a bit, See Pat plate this up with some mashed potatoes, See me make this and a second helping disappear except for a pile of bones, Today's dish story over 🙂.

Nothing wrong with that. Speaking of ugly Pat made us a Big giant baked potato each last night. I mean big and loaded. Yes there is a split potato from the trager pellet grill under that mess. We could only eat half of our plate each. It was good though and for breakfast I had my other half this morning. Adding to that I will be eating Pat's other half in the morning.

51 degrees when I pulled out the driveway to a patch of walnut trees on a neighbor's farm. There is a picnic table there with scattered walnut trees around. As the sun came up the squirrel began to move. I found out quickly they were only going to one specific tree to grab a walnut and take off back to bigger timber to start cutting that hard shell. A sound once you hear it you never forget that sound. From that table I would key in on that sound and begin to stalk and find out where it was coming from. Thick enough underbrush I was kinda noisy. Sometimes my quarry would stay still cutting that nut and sometimes he or she would move off trying to hide again. I seen five and got four. Quite morning you could hear things in the distance for miles . I rate this a high quality morning. You could even see you breath while exhaling. Blessing for the month of August. Have I told you how much I like to hunt squirrel with the air rifle? More Pictures of the meal prep on what's cooking.

We had a Savannah monitor for a few years. Little guy when we bought him. Had to feed him small mice. He grew and got bigger. No more mice and next thing available were Teddy Bear hamsters that were still sold at Walmart. Toss one of those in this cage (aquarium) and he was on it pronto. Those hamsters would scream as he grabbed them. Too big for his cage he would stand against the side and push off the lid and weight on the top did not work. We lived in a small trailer and every week the hunt was on for jim the lizard. He got stronger and was hard to handle. Time to sell him back to the pet store. He was pretty cool to have for a pet. Forgot to mention he liked to hide under the kitchen stove. Right where we put the glue traps for mice. It was a pain to get him out of those and cleaned up. 😆
