I agree but remember the famous words "they walk among us" and "you cant fix stupid" I have known people you have to explain things to in detail warning them against dangers. Some of them I consider friends . Take for example, na won't go there. And to you table rock people, Thanks you for being patent. I am sure we will leave you alone soon. I have tried a couple of times to turn this back to the shad deal, again thank you, BilletHead

CDC says 100 to 999 new cases in the gray shaded areas. I think one case is too many either by armadillo or otherwise, The Armchair biologist/scientist has spoken. I don't smoke, drink maybe a beer or three a week and try to remember my sunscreen. Why gamble or take a chance. You say you aren't living and enjoying life? Oh my friend I am enjoying the ride immensely, BilletHead

And supposed to be back in the 60s Saturday here. Welcome to Missouri, BilletHead

Kind of is but I have a thirst for knowledge. When armadillos first arrived in my area I wanted to learn more. So how do we learn? Seek knowledge in reputable sources. Then there is seeing is believing when outdoors. I for one have seen amazing things. BilletHead

Got one similar to this and I will try to post a photo later. Love the arm room for kayak paddling, BilletHead

Real biologists and real scientists have proven this. https://www.smithsonianmag.com/smart-news/how-armadillos-can-spread-leprosy-180954440/ https://www.livescience.com/52792-armadillos-leprosy-bacteria-spreading-southern-us.html http://www.nytimes.com/2011/04/28/health/28leprosy.html Does this help? When I need to dispose of one I do so with gloved hands. BilletHead

True that but some eagles are migratory and some stay here year around. The follow the food source. They will target healthy birds and I have seen that but much easier pickings of the sick and weak. Good Biologists know such things . I am just an non educated armchair biologist who needs to see to believe. Where are the mysterious northern strain of threadfin shad? Still looking. See here another armchair biologist , BilletHead

Isn't the shad, the eagles that migrate follow the waterfowl. They know what good eats the ducks and geese are as does the BilletHead's. Of course you see eagles eating road kill and dead livestock on fields, Go figure Even though I have thought good and hard about this they are a carrier of leprosy. Griz and I have a disclaimer. Armadillos are protected and if you kill one protecting your garden, yard, digging under buildings etc. you must report it and ask forgiveness to your local conservation agent. Discreetly dispose of the carcass so as to not alarm neighbors. You may choose to shoot, shovel and shut up too . I once got a double one early morning in the dark with a machete. I can attest it was a bloody massacre. Even with this last cold front we had when sleeping on the porch last week I woke up to shuffling in the front yard leaves. Actually loud enough it woke us both up. I told the Mrs. It was another armadillo. Got up the next morning to find rooting right off the front screened in porch. Normally they are nocturnal but in cold temps you can see them all day trying to find grub(s). Diller hater the BilletHead

So does this mean Kathy gets frozen pizza to balance things out?

I resent that remark and take offense from it. I was born in Southern California, so I may be considered an import. This being said both of my parents were born here in Missouri so can I please be considered a native? Go ahead Wrench I give you permission to pounce, BilletHead

A good cold day for leftover Pozole Rojo. Smoking five pounds of sharp cheddar too. The 14 degree weather prevented an accidental cheese meltdown also , I am the authority on meltdowns, BilletHead

I agree Rick. I bet California regulations require a spark arrestor on outboards run there. Now that would be going too far , BilletHead -
That and they are raised in polluted ponds like farm raised shrimp. . What a place. This started with a shad kill to shad ID and where they live to tilapia. , Still waiting for a positive ID of a threadfin from LOZ. Come on guys lets keep on track here and now armadillos? We need cold weather to stop them and I mean cold. So they break their little noses trying to root in the frozen ground for something to eat. May sound mean but I hope they freeze to death, each and everyone of them. That or stay out of my yard. I heard at the swap meet the MDC dropped armadillos about the same time they air dropped timber rattlesnakes, copperheads and cottonmouths. . Let the conspiracy theories resume. BilletHead.

Good addition MoCarp, I tied a couple young of the year clousers for the upcoming white bass flyfishing season. One is a threadfin and the other a gizzard. Which one is which? Should i ust the gizzard to fish north and the threadfin south? . Again I find this an interesting thread. I hope you armchair biologists can prove we have the threadfin farther north. I too used to throw a net back in my younger years below Truman dam in LOZ. Seen others literally net tons of the slimy critters. Never seen a threadfin up there. Guess they may be a new thing or ran up the rivers from South and jumped the LOZ dam? I read where they once stocked Montrose with them but supposedly they died out. BilletHead

Oh Snagged, I have sent a text to him on this shad subject. We want his opinion on the shad dilemma. As far as MDC goes we know what he thinks about this. All i can figure is he is catching up on much needed sleep or out shooting his bb oops I mean pellet springer rifle , BilletHead

Interesting. Had no idea they were in Nebraska. I am not too Far north of Table Rock and Bull Shoals and there are not any I am aware of in Stockton, Pomme and Truman. Thanks for the info, BilletHead I just figured from your profile you were from Nebraska. Reading this thread on the threadfin got me to wondering how far North they ranged. Guess your Fish and game does not know there are some up there. I bet they would like to know if there is a surviving population up there. Pretty neat, https://magazine.outdoornebraska.gov/2017/10/lurks-beneath-beautiful-flatties/ BilletHead

No but I have seen recipes for chili that call for cinnamon. BilletHead

I think we are talking two types of shad here Hunter. You have gizzard shad as we do also. Down where the guys are talking here they have threadfin shad, smaller than gizzard. BilletHead

Like you said chips and scrapes are not going to matter. Actually each one will give it character. Give it a coat of white first ad that orange will really pop with color. BilletHead -
