That is quite a recovery on the corn! We have never planted garlic but may sometime. Right now we have it growing wild all over the back roads. Some of it gets brush hogged down bit there are some patches untouched. I have my eyes on them. Some of the tops starting to open. Stein, when you harvest do you wash your heads before drying? I did last year with no problems but read where you are not supposed to do it? I had no loss and had wild garlic through the winter. Only difference I found compared to domestic was the size of the head and maybe a hot bite,. BilletHead

Anchor on a river Jon boat
BilletHead replied to Jdecoudres's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
Jdecoudres, Not sure what kind of mounting situation you have but let me give you some information on what the BilletHead uses. I use this anchor pulley, http://www.cabelas.com/product/Anchor-Pulley/700040.uts?searchPath=%2Fbrowse.cmd%3FcategoryId%3D734095080%26CQ_search%3Danchor I did some modifications to my pulley. Got rid of the junky spring that sets the rope. The locking part is heavy enough it will drop to hold the rope. I also replaced the rivets with stainless steel bolts and nuts for a beefier set up. Use a large diameter rope and you may still have to shim adding a plate under the rope. If you want a photo of that I can do that just let me know, I use one or two lead anchors made by pouring lead in an old skillet or heavy pan. Depending again on current flow chooses one or two anchors. Not sure what they weigh though. I fish some high current areas on the river and in gravel I may even have to leave motor in gear to help me hold. I use a very long rope and when I am seated at the console and I am alone I can set anchor from a setting position, Hope this gives you another possible option, BilletHead -
These three sites will tell you everything you want to know. First is the corps water management, http://www.nwk.usace.army.mil/Locations/Water-Management/ I go to the three day forecast. Tells you the anticipated release. Then the South west power pool, http://www.swpa.gov/generationschedules.aspx Click Stockton on the day you are going. Note they update late in the afternoons for the following days forecast. On Friday they will show Saturday through Monday. This is an hourly table showing how many megawatts will be generated. Now to the state streamflow map. There are three gauges below Stockton. Two just below the dam and the third says near Caplinger Mills but it isn't even close it is below Cedar Creek at the town of BlackJack. Just use the two spots below Stockton, click on them for a graph. You will need to use all three sites and then you do some figuring. This will allow you to hit the peak or low water that you want at Caplinger. Note the first two sites will not be 100% reliable as it is anticipated releases. So if there is an emergency call for power etc. etc. https://waterwatch.usgs.gov/?m=real&r=mo All of this will save you wasted time and money when you figure it out, Good luck, BilletHead

They are easy to feed just letting them have some charcoal. if they behave and don't talk back I will treat them with some split hickory for a change . If they get fired up and if they get too hot I can quickly get them under control again squashing potential problems. All in all good behaving kids , BilletHead

Nice set up Gavin, I like my Webers and have collected three sizes over the years. The big one has the wobbly legs that just insert into the sockets. Like the updated ones with snap pins. I know the lids are dusty but if I washed them they would not cook the same , BilletHead

You guys and your potato salad, So we started looking for a recipe and settled on German potato salad. Based the rest of the meal after deciding the salad. Grilled chicken thighs. Actually the most flavorful part of the chicken is the thighs in our opinion. So the completed salad, Then the chicken getting really happy and as I was watching it I got happy, , Plated up and of course the fart part consisted of good old pork and beans . Some BilletHead BBQ sauce for dipping. A long neck to wash it all down, Then there was a pre wash of a deep stock pot by Sadie and she was in it to her ears, Everybody came away from this meal satisfied. Right now there is a batch of lemon rosemary shortbread cookies getting ready to come out of the oven. The BilletHead is so spoiled . Happy Fathers day guys, BilletHead

Four more squirrels and what we did with them, http://honest-food.net/hmong-squirrel-stew-recipe/ Hmong squirrel stew. Very tasty for sure and another that will be repeated. Browning of the meat, Ready for a couple hours of simmering and when meat falls off the bone we will pick it off, After picking it off back in the pot with other good stuff. Here we add bok choy, snow peas, and ground Sichuan peppercorns. Gave it a stir and ten more minutes to cook up the veggies, Ladled up into bowls. I had my steamed rice on the side and Pat had her rice underneath the squirrel dish, A couple ice cold long necks to wash it down. Top notch my friends, BilletHead

Krazo, Good timing buddy! Here is a link to the recipe. Do it and I guarantee you will like it, http://honest-food.net/braised-squirrel-aurora-recipe/ So the good timing part? Well got four more in the last couple of days and we are making a run to find some ingredients for this one, http://honest-food.net/hmong-squirrel-stew-recipe/ We figure we can find the lemongrass but may have to substitute ginger for the galangal. Maybe leave this out but want it as close to the correct ingredients. Look around the site http://honest-food.net/ BilletHead

Our friend Richard, I say our friend because he is an OAF member, A friend of Ham's, Grizwilson and Gotmuddy is in a world of hurt and needs our prayers. I have been a friend of Richard for around eighteen years. Met him on the river crappie fishing, go figure .You have seen him in some of my posts and when he fished with the guys above on a redfish trip to Texas. Too many things have hit our friend in the last few months and he needs some prayers and good thoughts. I have been in contact with Richard's daughters and wife and today I asked if I could post this here. Annette his wife asked Richard and he said yes so here it is. A few months back Richard had a stroke. Bounced back from that fine, then he began to feel poorly , lost some weight and got to hurting, hurting bad enough to be hospitalized only to find out after a biopsy he has lymphoma. Then another stroke. Richard will see an oncologist Monday to see his course of treatment. He has the most wonderful wife and daughters and their families. This equals the best support system possible. They can all use out prayers right now. Pat and I love him and his family. Like it or not when you become our friend you become part of our family. I went through pictures of our many adventures together this afternoon. Got a bit teary eyed. Picked out a couple to share with you all, BilletHead
