Had the best fishing for a long time out of the brush creek access last year! Up river several miles and then downstream around 54. So far a no go this year. There is still a chance it will turn on for the hybrids in July, Billethead

Did manage a few white bass up there but did better on walleye and crappie.. Then rain came, with that mud and no flow I liked. Moved way up river a ways below Caplinger. More crappie and more rain that screwed up things. Now that Stockton has water the South West Power pool is calling the shots generating at Stockton. So far no pattern has developed. They have not ran the same for any amount of time. I know if you want to fight the people on the Caplinger bridge early in the morning you can get a few crappie. I know I am not going to stand there and watch fifteen bobbers float in one spot to catch what they are catching BilletHead

Everything sticks to the suit and I mean everything. We tuck then into our boots and it helps for the low lying stuff. You almost need help if you are within six feet of a multiflora rose Once you sit down you dissappear though. On another note we flyfished the pig farm irragation lake for a spell Saturday. About forty blue winged teal there, weekend before that close to a hundred. Some you could walk to within ten yards of before flying off. Corn there too this year. You can see where the local geese have walked out and have pulling up the baby corn. If it kkep wet that placce will be HOT this season! BilletHead P.S. We got our suits at the Army surplus in Springfield. I think they were 79 bucks for the complete suit.

Seeing everyones posting about there garden and JD talking about garden layout plus Feather and Fin's eyeballing the plants behind my turkeys made me want to share what we do. Where I live there is poor soil and lack of space due to lots of trees. We have made a couple of raised beds out of composite lumber. The rest we have in large tubs, the kind farmers use for molasses/mineral licks for cattle. Part of my dirt came from barnyard cattle lots. Mix of cow poop, rotten hay and dirt. Then I have for the last years supplemented with store bought dirt, potting soil, compost and peat moss. Cattle panels go over tomatoes to keep them tied up. Same for the cucumbers for a trellis. We have 26 of the tubs and two raised beds, beds measure 4'X12' I have crappy back issues so I use a stool I sit on to weed things. ok here are some photos Bed #1 has 4 different mixes of mesclun lettuce plus black seeded simson, romane, butter crunch and a bit of spinich. Some watermelon radishes and black radishes. First time with radishes. One tomato plant gifted from a friend and at the end outside a sage plant. Bed #2 Two types of snow peas, cabbages and herbs consisting of chives, rosemary basil and greek oregano. some of the tubs Four have peppers, two double delight and other two sante fe grand and mild jalepenos. Other tubs of tomatoes, cherokee purple, orange whoppers, chocolate cherry and cherry. Then also a parsley plant. Another row of tubs consisting two tubs of cubanelle peppers then more tomatoes, Black krims, brandywine, cherry and chocolate cherry A couple more cherokee purples here is two tubs with cucumbers and brandywine and golden jubillee tomatoes More cucumbers and rosemary This is the last photo. Trying to get some asparagus started and then I was given some blight resistant chestnuts. I planted them last fall. Out of 12 planted I got 11 trees started. where the heck am I going to transplant them? Running out of room. This is the first year we have started out own plants. Only the golden jubilee and gifted tomato we did not start. Chives, parsley and sage over wintered from last season. Tried to start rosemary but no success so it is bought. Thanks for looking, BilletHead

Feathers and fins, Thanks and I will some time take photos of the garden and post on the garden section for you. My bending over doesn't go to well. Back is shot so we garden in raised beds and tubs. In the bed you see is five types of lettuce and four rows of radishes plus one tomato. All other tomatoes are in tubs, BilletHead

Tagged my second bird this morning. 2year old 5" beard 5/8" spurs. Shot the photo in a different side of the raised garden. Bird Watcher was afraid the other spot I use might kill the grass and I tend to agree:) It's been a good season but a bit warm to suit my taste. Never seen so many mosquitos. Yesterday no luck, so windy and heard no birds. This mornning tried another place and had three gobbling and roosting close. They flew down, gathered and came right to my call. On another note in our five hunts I only seen four hens? Is it possable they might already be on the nest? Billethead

Chris, I have not seen any goslings yet, but am keeping my eyes peeled.....

Mrs BilletHead gets her second and final bird this morning. 20lbs 10oz 10" beard 1 1/8" spurs. Hunt was not as easy as her bird last week. Couldn't get him to come to our first hide so we slipped a bit closer. Called for 15 minutes or so. Still he would not budge. finally started purring on the slate before yelping. This he couldn't resist. One shot put him down. I am tired of sweating and skeeters but may try for my second? BilletHead

Mrs. says thanks fellows and she admires the way of the Ninja!

Good hunt this morning. Last year Her bird's came hard. Lightning, wind, rain and mud I put her through. She says how come you don't have to work so hard? I say because I don't need to.. heheheh At that time it was the wrong thing to say. So this year I hoped it would be a better hunt and it was. We get to our hide and sit up the decoys. A hen and jake on both sides of a tree row. Get settled and soon the woods was loud with birds gobbling on each side of us. Windy though. Getting pretty light and a bit quieter. I knew the birds had flew down. Soon a gobble on the ground, another and another. Then birds in the field to our left. I say get ready to the left, then I start calling. Four birds make a beeline to the decoys. The one she shot strutting and gobbling all the way. Closer and closer and I say shoot and boom the shotgun went. All four birds streached there heads up? Shoot again and this time in a heap her bird went. I pounced on it and over The Mrs. comes. High fives, fist bumps and a hug. Wow that was easy she says. Then she says remember what week this is? Yes I reply. Six years ago she had been told she had breast cancer. We had hunted the next day. I called her in a bird. Told her to shoot and she didn't, bird left. I say what's wrong. I was afraid the shotgen kick would shake the cancer and spread it. We both had a cry that morning in the turkey woods. So this was a what we call her other birthday. Another year cancer free. That's what they call it but once you are touched by it you are never free of the thought. You think of it every day. I am truly blessed to have her for my best friend and wife. Hold them tight while you can. Cancer jerks a knot in your tail and you see things a different way. Her bird is a 2year old. Little 1/2" spurs, 16lbs 7oz. But get this FOUR BEARDS! Biggest being 5 3/4" long. Here are some photos. One especally for Chris (Bird Watcher) of her in disguise. I would of rather put a Groucho Marx on her but don't know how, BilletHead

Thanks Dave, Mrs. BilletHead scored this morning. What a hoot! got things to do today but hunt story will be sometime today. Hers had four beards, BilletHead

Title Or No Title, That Is The Question?
BilletHead replied to BilletHead's topic in General Angling Discussion
I was right as I thought, reinforced by moguy off to the DMV this morning. Action and a decision was decided. I was in a bit of a tiff leaving the house this morning. Got there when they opened and first thing when the nice DMV lady said "uh oh what's wrong" I say what I thought yesterday was right and what we did was not right. She says "That's what I thought but you heard my supervisor and I had to do what she said, I will let you deal with her" Supervisor senior DMV lady says Oh all you can do is fill out form 426 and see if they will send you some money back but you will still loose 6 bucks for a special admin fee. Filled out form, left with no apology and more papers in my hand. Get home and call buyer. I could tell by his voice it was like the wind had suddenly left his sail. He said I would send you half, no all of the money you are out. His DMV on his end has him convinced he had to have a title. By now I am feeling bad about getting everyone stirred up including myself I have to make a call on what to do. This buyer and I have a mutual friend that Mrs. BilletHead and I think the world of. Plus the buyer is one ace of a guy I have learned. So A call to the local DMV, get the nice lady that calls me hun. Tell her to shread up form 426 that I will eat the cost and get a title to buyer instead of a bill of sale. She says I knew you were right and I am sorry this happened. This is what I needed and wanted to hear.Call buyer back and told him what I did, he says I am going to send you money. Nope we will fish together some day and laugh about this. All is well. I beleve what goes around comes around. Our actions and how we treat and SPEAK to each other online or offline will affect us on judgement day. Ness is right we live and learn so it is now onward and upward. Thank you all for your input BilletHead -
Title Or No Title, That Is The Question?
BilletHead replied to BilletHead's topic in General Angling Discussion
Yes it is confusing a bit. I will go find out more tomorrow. Wish me luck with the sweet ladies at the DMV. I still look at it this way. A paddled watercraft is the same whether it is a canoe, kayak, personal pontoon or a rowboat. Yes I owe taxes but to whom and what is my best route? Anyone bought a canoe lately and to whom did you all pay the tax for it? Billethead -
Title Or No Title, That Is The Question?
BilletHead replied to BilletHead's topic in General Angling Discussion
Thank you Jim, this is what I was looking for. I want more input from others also. I think I will go back for a visit to the DMV? I do know I owe taxes to someone. Who? What is the cheapest? State DMV of the rate in Springfield 12 years ago? I never got taxed at the store the price was on the title App. I had not looked at. At the least I should get my late penalty fee of 30 bucks back plus title app fees? What a mess. So the new buyer should be ok with a bill of sale and get his own title and registration to make his canoe work . Confused I have talked to a friend who rents out canoes and he said he does not have titles for his fleet -
Ok here goes, I am not looking for a free pass here. I just sold my canoe. When I bought it in June of 2000 I got some paperwork. Mrs. Billethead gave them the check. I asked about what I needed to do and they said if you are just going to paddle nothing just enjoy. I filed the paperwork and that was that. One of our members here and said his DMV wanted origional title app or title (IL). I said I could do a bill of sale because I did not title or regester because I never used a motor on it. Did not hear any more from him but did list the canoe and kayak on craigs list and pronto both sold. So now more to the story. i met the canoe buyer today and made the deal, both of us happy and I provided him a bill of sale. He is going to use a motor so he goes to the MO DMV and got a no way without a title. Nice guy, said for me not to worry and see what i can do on my end. So I do. Lucky my wife knew right where the origional paper work was so off to the DMV I go. Looking at the paaper work I had not paid the taxes many years ago. My mistake, I should of looked at the bill of sale instead of filing it. Told the lady at the DMV what happened and told of the story I was not going to motorize the canoe. Se said that was fine but HUN you were supposed to title it. Ok nice lady let's just fix it but while we are doing that define what has to be titled please? Well HUN any watercraft. So another conflab ensued. Define watercraft? Well HUN anything that floats! I am sure WoodMan the boat builder here knows more that these two (got a second one involved) and wish he was here at the conflab. So I say if I do my best Huck Finn, Tom Sayer thing and strap logs together do I have to title it? They both giggle and look at me funny like. AND what about all those personal one man pontoons? Float tubes? Kayaks? I never did get a straight answer. I do know when I bought my first kayak I paid taxes right there and same when I had bought my first and last personal pontoon. It came with a trolling motor mount. Got things done and paid my fine, thank goodness it was a 30$ max penalty. But taxes sucked and total it was 97$ and some change. So my 500$ canoe sales went down by a hundred. No I say you all my Ozarks Anglers friends do you all have your watercraft titled? Oared and paddled ones? There are some here who have motorized there kayaks? Did you all regester them? What are your state laws? Are we wrong here in MO on our Kayaks and personal pontoons? Float tubes? I may be the only one missing the boat I might say? BilletHead PS the canoe buyer will have to wait 3 to 4 weeks for the canoe title to get to me. He said no problem!

Thanks fellows, Chris I like the disguise I thought of posing with my full guillie suit on but couldn't get the dog to snap the photo:) Makes sense about the beard thing. I have a friend over by Collins. He is as honest as they come. He got his biggest yesterday of a bunch of years hunting. 25lbs, 10.5" beard and get this, 1 3/8" and 1 7/8" spurs. What a stud he said! Thank you Gavin, I couldn't find my owners manual but here is the info on the specs. http://www.madrivercanoe.com/content/madrivercanoe.com/assets/page/1993/winooski.jpg It is the Missisquoi I gave close to a grand when I bought it. Always stored inside, BilletHead

I am not sure on the weight Mic. I know I used to stand it on end, put the center seat on my shoulders and portage it from truck to water no problem. BilletHead

Do not have the origional sales receipt. I am the only owner. Did not title because not going to use a motor. All I could do would be a bill of sale. Have had a trolling motor which moved it well, a 3hp gas worked well also:) BilletHead
