  1. He was a bit skinny Dayrk. Caught a 3 pounder there once and Monday caught two. There quite a surprise. BilletHead
  2. Been fishing on a new pond to me and the Mrs. this Spring I think four times. Caught fish each time. Mostly bass and channel cat but Monday found some green sunfish and bluegill. No camera Monday and of course that day the fish were larger Went again today after turkey hunting. I have transitioned to all of my pond fishing with the fly rod. Caught around fifteen bass a couple of bluegill, green sunfish and another channel cat. All were caught on a brownish two and a half inch wooly bugger. Slow strip in the shallow warm end of the pond. Sorry for the poor photos just used my little point and shoot camera while trying to hold the fish. Bass were small today but sporty. Last week I did real well on a bead chain eye fire tiger clouser. 3. Good going Mic. I love ponds and I hit one today after my turkey hunt, BilletHead
  4. Another bird down so I am done. I hope the Mrs. gets her a bird this weekend. Getting on a bird but could not get them to come to a call. They have been turning around and walking away from the call. I have worked two birds, same ones Monday and Tuesday . Hunting a upper field with a small bluff/ridge with a lower field below. A small pond muck hole between them. Monday I seen them on the upper field, crept in on them and sat up. They were strutting and gobbling while chasing around a jake. I made a call and they folded up and walked off. Back again yesterday this time with the decoys, same spot. They were roosted in the lower field. They were noisy all morning as I waited. Got to the point where I peeked into the lower field and gave them a call, they turned and walked off? Crap I thought. Went back to the decoys and waited. Soon a lone bird showed up in the middle of the field just picking and walking. I called to him and he strutted, gobbled and continued on his marry way. Later another pair of birds showed up in the lower field. Jakes, that would make me happy so I slipped down to the back of the pond and called. I just new they would walk around the pond across a draw at the end of the bluff and come to the lower field. So here they came to the draw. Took one look at it, turned around and back to the pond. Too far to shoot. They bobbed there heads and flew across the pond within ten yards of me then sailed way out into the lower field out of range! Then headed off away and then gone. Now to this morning. This time I set up on the bottom field, no decoys and next to the pond. As it got light the two big birds from the last two days got noisy and pitched out 300 yards away. I kept quiet and here they came to my end. This is where I put and end to one of them. 10.5" beard Stubby 1/2 inch spurs and he was a tall lean 16 pounder. BilletHead
  5. How does your garden grow? Crazy weather, what's going to happen? Temp right now is 87 and plummet tonight and tomorrow with snow showers Thursday night. Maybe a half inch. We have a great stand of lettuce. Black seeded Simpson, butter crunch, romaine, spinach and select mix. Some radishes too. Eating a bunch of salad. Pretty nice. Have tomatoes and peppers started too plus some Brussels sprouts. Have had them all started for a while but out for a day or two then back inside. Would really like to get them into the ground like they should be. Had a visit with a farmer friend of mine. He had all his corn and some of his early beans by this time last year. Nothing so far is in the ground for him this season. Here is a couple of photos of what is growing here. Going to roll the plastic back on the bed this evening for the weather coming in, BilletHead
  6. Nice and way to go fellows. Pretty slim pickings here right now. I (we) are wet and what is here have webbed feet and are acting more like ducks than turkeys. Pat said while I was gone early this week helping at Reel Recovery the road hunting was bad and she even heard shots while getting ready for work in the house. Going to make some phone calls and maybe hit another farm. Lots of hens but toms and hiding or silent. Time to put on the thinking cap, BilletHead
  7. Nice John P. Nice photos and thanks for sharing the hunts. I have been busy for the last few days but I will be out in the morning to see if there is anything left around here! BilletHead

  11. Way to go Duane! Pat says you suck:) She found one little black morel up here Tuesday afternoon. The tops of any up may freeze off here in the next two nights. Congrads, Marty
  12. Two flyrods, one built and one in a rod tube stored in a hatch on my Diablo. 8weight and 6 weight. One strung up depending on size of flys, size of quarry and wind conditions. Billethead
  13. Nice job Rangerman. You all did well and thanks for posting, BilletHead
  14. Gobbled good on the roost here and for a short spell on the ground. Tried the same thing this morning for the Mrs., Crazy things came by a second time and Mrs. BilletHead missed, yes she did? Did not even pull a feather, She is really bummed. I know she shot high and looking back so does she. Next day for her will be Saturday but I doubt they will be on this circut by then. I am like you Chris third week will be hot. I will be busy with Reel Recovery next week so it will be a few days before I get my second try, BilletHead
  15. Good luck Laker. If you go into the ditch a little the kill still counts just make sure there is a beard attached, BilletHead
  16. Hey Chris, Thanks friend. I am not sure about the birds around here with there beards? Maybe the water? PCB's? Global warming? I will tell you that out of the group of hens that were with them that I have been watching there is four that have facial hair, one has 4"s worth. Too many hormones in the ground:) I am sure it is in there gene pool. Marty PS I took the flyrod this afternoon to those Ponds Along the hyway where Pat and I finished goose season. Bluewings buzzed me all the time I was there. they need to head North. Do you realize just five months until teal season:)
  17. I'll tell you mine, Been watching birds behind the house. Not sure if it is the cool weather or what but they are sure henned up big time. I knew where they were roosting and hitting the field to mess for the day. Set up a blind in between and hoped for the best. They went crazy on the roost right off. A fly down and pretty soon a string of 18 to 20 hens came buy with two big toms and a jake in tow. Picked one out and that was that. Hope I did not mess them up too bad as I wanbt to take Mrs. BilletHead in the morning for her bird. I know I will catch heck if she doesn't get a chance. She thinks I get the easy ones and then drag her all over the place for her shot Four beards and the longest was right at 9" with a total of 28" on all four. Inch spurs and for the life of me I have friends who get long needle sharp spurs and mine are always blunt. Scales went between 20lbs 15oz and 21lbs. I know he was one tough bird to skin. BilletHead, is using my wifes laptop and hopes this will post ok. My computer bit the dust yesterday and it is at the computer doctor. Crappy fan photo as wet grass and me stomping the bird did not help. Marty

  19. May you all have a safe and good time. Please take notes and photos to share with us that won't make it. I bet it will be a hoot for you guys, BilletHead
  20. Thank you Mr. Saltydog Billethead
  21. Thanks, thought it might of been you. On your clousers you said purple and chartruse. Single colors or a mix of the two? I had my good day on gray over white with silver holo flash in between. Billethead
  22. Saltydog, were you there Friday? Two of you flyfishing? We went by two flyfishing on that day. BilletHead
  23. Hey Ralph, I think #4 was the best and they were tyed about three inches long. BilletHead
  24. Up and clear, I posted a report on the Sac, Little Sac thread on here, BilletHead
  25. Made a scouting trip yesterday to taylor. Never been there before and thank you to Bill Butts for directions. Did the run from Vernon County. 70 miles one way but it was worth the scout. I caught a few right under the bridge. Now to todays trip. Buddy and I got up early, hooked up his small jet boat, made the run and launched pretty early. We were the first boat but there were four kayaks and a small flat bottom getting ready. Several people up and down river with fish on there stringers. We ran up and started fishing. Hammered them. I threw a gray over white clouser size 4 and 2 on the fly rod. It is all I used and quit counting whites when I hit 70. Best day ever I think I have had for white bass. Also caught a keeper walleye and two largemouth. One of them was about three pounds. the whites hit close to shore to out in the middle on the bottom, some even striking as I lifted the fly out of the water. when we left seen all four kayaks, three canoes, flat bottom boat and another jet rig like I was in today plus a two man pontoon bass hunter type boat. Bookoos people on the bank. This was about 2:30 when we quit. Fis bit all day long and there was nowhere we did not catch. Concetrated on the holes and runs below riffles. We did explore and got close to the 215? bridge. Did go under the old railroad crossing walk/ bike trail. Better get out there but I bet it will be a zoo this weekend, BilletHead Released everything so go get them.
