Pond report, fly line review and a tiny fry report
BilletHead replied to BilletHead's topic in General Flyfishing Topics
Have JestersHK fries finished up from him winning the drawing. He will be throwing them on a 6wt. If that becomes a chore throw them with light spinning gear, Ness isn't the only one with weathered decking . Weathered decking is like weathered people as it gives them character. We all know Ness is a character. Will get these boxed up and sent out in the next couple of days if I drive int town. -
Planted some of last years nuts early this spring in pots. I think I had one hundred percent germination. Some of the larger pots have two to four trees growing in them. Forty -two little trees coming on strong, Blooms or catkins coming on now for fall harvest. Hard to tell but thinking I should have triple or more than I had last year if all goes well and they make, BilletHead is going nuts and not far to getting there

Big water, big cranks, and big fish!

Nice! Thanks for the good read first thing this morning, BilletHead -
Posting Ok and not turning into anyone else. Only other issues is slower than it used to be responding. Also when backspacing or clicking back to previous pages it hangs up and will not back up. Do not believe it is me or my computer because all other sites I visit and check daily work speedy. Thank you, BilletHead

Wrench is like the Rodney Dangerfield of Ozarks Anglers Forums. He gets no respect! Yes this is coming from the real Billethead. If I am going to get in trouble for this no it isn't really me . BilletHead maybe

Yes you are. One thing that helped me is to go to profile and log out as 176 Champion. Then try to re log back in as yourself. BilletHead as himself

Well on the home page first thing I was Jim G. When I hit the Forums link I turned into my self. BillatHead

That is Mrs, BilletHead's job picking ticks. I can test drive your work though. This place is still messed up. It is funny though. When I just opened up OA a minute ago I was signed in as you 176 Champion, BilletHead

.22 up close and right in the old noggin. As in the photo his head was right smack dab over his center mass. Hollow point and under the head I about cut his body in half. There went the hat band, I still feel kind of bad, Billethead

Isn't that the truth, at least make them think it is so, BilletHead

As some of you may know from other posts I do not have a phobia of snakes. Some of you all do really badly. Even poisonous ones do not bother me but I do respect them. Usually a few pictures and I am good to let them go forth and do their thing. Been known to get a stick and flick them off the road so as to not get run over. I have seen copperheads close to home but today it was one in the yard. I mean right out the back door thinking he was hid under the back deck side cover. Hidden behind the wildflowers. I actually could smell him and that got me to poking around and looking. If I could of got him pinned I would of took him down or up the road for release. As you can see there was no way as he would of just went under and disappeared. Our Sadie dog has no fear and loves to harass snakes. She has never been bit and I would rather not this be the first time. Grand kids come up too and don't need that hanging around either. I with regret took care of the problem after taking a few pictures for the snake lovers here, BilletHead BilletHead

Eventually most of you may end up with one sooner of later. Gotta start carving the tiny fries soon. I am one of those guys that needs a backup and a backup to the backup and a backup to that backup. BilletHead

Pond report, fly line review and a tiny fry report
BilletHead replied to BilletHead's topic in General Flyfishing Topics
Fly fishing is an addiction to me. I thought about the fix I got yesterday morning all night. Every time I closed my eyes last night all I could see was erupting water and those stinkin green fish mid air. Up at Five AM like we are every morning. This was the Mrs. morning to work early walk in clinic. We both parted the house at six thirty. her to work and me to get another fix. This time I would have the kayak and not the crazy strong wind that was blowing yesterday. Rod built and kayak in the water I was paddling away from the truck at seven fifteen. No wind and cloudy. I could see water being disturbed by big fish chasing smaller fish and I began to feel like a child. Wide eyed and excited. I wanted to start throwing the little fry I had luck with before but decided to put on one of the larger balsa pencil poppers I had just finished. Guess what? They work and the new line on the 7wt pitched it out just fine with no wind to fight, Three pounds of stinkin green love right there . And it kept happening and they liked it, And another, Caught four real fast with the red white pencil. Then put the little fry on and began to tear them up, Found them around what little wood cover still in the lake and around some small willow bushes that were in the water. Paddled a ways along the bank then drop anchor. Fan cast the shore line and repeat. I made four of five set ups like this and caught each place. One time got ten blow ups and landed eight in one of those spots. I would catch right on the bank stripping back to the kayak and some would blow up as I was lifting to cast again. Maybe two foot of water at the kayak. A view of the calm water, As I worked my way around the lake the wind began to pick up. I then anchored up out from a pair of fence posts. Some of this ponds background. It was a typical farm / fishing family pond. Way smaller than you see here. When I first started fishing here next to the fence posts was a big tree and you could see other trees that used to be the edge of this pond. When the owner turned over the farming part to another the new leaser worked the pond bigger during a low water period to make a big lake for irrigation purposes. So there is a deep bowl of sorts with slow tapering flats to the new existing lake edges. I set up on the shallow side of this picture and the lake deepens quickly on the other side of these fence posts. Flat hammered them here. Throw to the posts and strip the sputtering fry back. Then the sun came out and more wind. I quickly paddled to the flooded shelter house. Started throwing to the shady side doing my best to skip in and under. Missed a big boil on the left side post. I kept passing the fry by the post and missed another hit. Then I went and did it. Hit the post with the fry hard . Pulled in the fry to see a crack and chip in the little dude. Oh well I can dry and patch and I happen to know the fry builder. Real sunny now I tied on one of my articulating worms and caught the fish I missed and another in that spot. Puled anchor and paddled back to the truck. Loaded up and headed home. Happiness is a bass thumb, Caught conservatively thirty five. Missed a bunch too. Biggest fish three pounds plus. Average two pounds in the total. Guess my hook up rate on top water was sixty percent. With the worm a hundred percent. Glad I went big time. Quantitative participation map shows BilletHeadVille in the bulls eye for five plus inches in the next three days. Possible severe storms tonight. The farmer was pulling into field getting ready to work it surrounding the lake a I left. If we get the rain expected this place will be shot for a while. BilletHead -
Ok I made a list of you voters. Randomly assigned each of you a number one through eleven.. Gave the list to Mrs. BilletHead to take to work and ask the Doc she works with to pick one of those numbers. Well JestersHK you are the lucky or unlucky one depending how you want to look at it . Will PM you, BilletHead

I got your name in the mix Deadstream. If Ness wins I throw in an extra fifty cents for him to purchase a sheet of sandpaper but he will probably just by a can of peas instead , BilletHead
