Go for it MOPanfisher! Day late here, but sliced up my bacon last night. Had to run to town earlier in the day, so I grabbed some tomatoes and had BLT's. The bacon turned out pretty good. Didn't take any sandwich pics, but did take a couple of slicing pics. WM

Dang BilletHead, great minds think alike! I bought three bellies at Sam's Club a few weeks ago. I did a cure with Morton's Tender Quick and brown sugar for ten days. Sprinkled the bellies with onion powder, garlic powder and cracked black pepper last night. Smoked in two batches today, one for eight hours with pitmaster's choice powder (mixture of cherry, maple and hickory). The other batch was smoked with apple for ten and a half hours. They'll all rest in the fridge wrapped in saran wrap until Wednesday or Thursday to be sliced and packaged. I sliced some unsmoked bacon this morning to fry for an omelet and it was really good, can't wait to try it after the smoke! Gonna have around 30 lbs of bacon in the fridge, hope a pound or so makes it for BLT's next summer! WM

Great post Straw Hat! My favorite fishing partner (my wife) generally out fishes me too, I figure she's lucky to have a husband that is a good guide! LOL! Glad you all are feeling better! WM

Way to go Dan! Great video, thanks for sharing it! WM

Good job Dan. I was out on the 8th for a bit as well, and didn't fair as well as you. I trolled crank baits on lead, had a mixed bag of fish, but no walleye. Did happen on Mr. and Mrs. lmt out on the lake. Was nice to chat with them again. WM

Tips trolling in-line spinners
Walleyedmike replied to WHARFRAT's topic in General Angling Discussion
I've never trolled in line spinners, but you have me thinking for sure. I'd recommend using an Offshore Tadpole trolling weight. http://www.offshoretackle.com/resettable_diving_weights.html and tie up some leaders about as long as the rods your using. I'd put a swivel on one end to hook to the tadpole trolling weight and a snap swivel on the other end to attach your spinner to. the neat thing about this system is there are dive charts on the web so you can dial in the depth that the fish are located and repeat it over and over. http://www.fishusa.com/product/Off-Shore-Tackle-Tadpole-Diving-Weights The tad pole trolling weight will separate the line on your reel from your leader so line twist on the reel wont be an issue. Best if luck! WM -
I catch quite a few small bass bottom bouncing and trolling cranks. I don't recall any memorable bass, and rarely even catch keeper bass while walleye fishing. I should add, every one of them has been irritating as heck! WM

Yep, just when I think I've got them figured out, those dang walleye start humbling me. I made it down to Stockton last weekend and fished with my buddies Gary Stanton and lundone on Friday July 22. We ended up with three keepers, a 17, 19 1/2 and a 24. Probably had 16-18 shorts. Those guys know their stuff, I learned a lot in one day. We bounced and trolled cranks in 16-20'. Thanks for the report lmt out. WM

Thanks for the report lmt out. That wind on Devils Lake can be a butt kicker, for sure. Kinda makes Stockton seem tame. Glad you guys had a good trip! o2bnMO, we always stay at Lake View Lodge. Nice place, but their ramp is a little sketchy. With the wind up there on the flat lands, we usually had to put in at different parts of the lake anyway. Give DL a shot, I don't think you'll be disappointed. Haven't been there in a couple of years, I need to change that! WM

Spot on advice by wtr dogs and nomolites. I'll just add, one of the things to keep in mind when trolling is the ability to duplicate what caught the last fish, particularly speed and depth. This can be accomplished with line counter reels or metered line especially when trolling crank baits. It is also important to ensure your crank baits are in tune and running straight when trolling multiple rods so you don't get your lines hung up with each other. Um, I've heard that can create quite a mess. WM

A few years ago when I began to develop interest in chasing Stockton Walleye, I was fortunate to meet up with a group of guys with a ton of experience guiding, fishing professionally, and fishing local tournaments who took me under their wings and taught me a ton about walleye fishing. I can't thank them enough for all I have learned from them. I usually bounce around 1 mph, but I noticed in a similar thread last year that lmt out goes a little faster. So now I experiment more with speed along with depth trying to find the sweet spot. The rule of thumb I have learned is 1oz of weight per 10 feet of water at 1mph. I only have 1.5 and 2 ounce bouncers as i rarely fish any deeper than 25'. I run my rod(s) in a holder and check them often to ensure the bouncer is near the bottom. I use line counters and bait casters with a flippin switch loaded with metered line. WM

Way to go guys, just got home from Stockton a little while ago. Only got to fish two short days with three walleye, one of which was a keeper. Bottom bounced and caught nothing. Switched to trolling flicker shads and caught the three. Was great finally meeting lmt out and the rest of his walleye catching crew! WM

I've spent some time in lundone's boat. He's one of my Stockton Lake walleye mentors and a stand up guy for sure! WM

Nice bag of 'eyes RPS. I'm thinking a TR limit is in your near future! WM

I've caught a lot of walleye with live leeches on a one hook harness up north. Have brought some of the left overs to Stockton and just didn't have much luck with them there. The guy at the Happy Hook bait shop in Stockton has told me people were having luck with leeches, but he's in the business of selling bait. I've always gotten more bang for my buck with crawlers...but that's just me. WM
-
I bought some 3" gulp leeches quite a few years ago. I haven't had any luck with them. They came out with bigger one's, I think 5" after I bought mine. I would think the bigger one's might be better. In my humble opinion, real meat is better than plastic most of the time. I've used gulp crawlers on slow death when little blue gill and bass are slicking worms off my hooks. I've had some success with the berkley alive pinched crawlers in those instances as the little fish can't get them off the hook as easily, so you have bait in the water in stead of a bare hook. Let us know how the leeches work for you! WM

Thanks, great job. Now you and Dan both have me thinking I need to broaden my horizon's and start trying some additional techniques! WM
