I generally only fish Stockton a couple times of year, spend my time at bull shoals in the summer. I was really I,pressed with the weight on the Stockton fish this year, they also have some fat in them. Hopefully it only gets better.

Been workin, I took a different role within the office aaaannnnddd Bull shoals is screwed, soooooooo, good time to learn a new lake.

There was a few nices pods around point 7...of course the channels were waylaying crankbaits I was trolling today, biggest was only around 4 pounds though..

9 eyes caught in between 6:45 and noon today.. Depths anywhere from 10-18 foot deep on the gravel..6 of 9 were keepers. All ove 17 inches with best 19.5. Rippin rap, snap jigged accounted for the two best. One on a trolling spoon and the rest on trolled chartreuse pearl flicker shads at 2.2mph. Also had a half dozen nice crappie in the mix. And the catfish all 10 or so of them annoyed the living hell out of me. They wacked crankbaits good though. Good luck safe fishing!

There is still a population that outright buys them I suppose. My pops does every couple of years. The one Cabelas had I don't believe had the kicker tied into the main motor or the full enclosure top, oooorrrr the primo lowrance package. With that it would have / list of about 93-94,000 freakin crazy!! ??
-
It was as weird seeing ranger boats parked next to Nitros and trackers at Cabelas, in Kansas City. I looked at a new ranger 621, with full windshield, 300 yammy, with a t9 kicker and a coooooooool price tag of $88,000. ??

Well spent some time up north went one week with boat, second week without for some family time. Walleye bite was typical post spawn bite, trolling cranks mostly flicker shads and minnows. Caught a few, but weather was really nasty. Second trip I night fished from the bank as everyone slept and caught some solid fish slow rolling large husky jerks and rogues. They would inhale a #14 husky jerk like I have never seen. Sometimes with just 10 or so feet of line out. Had 8 in 2 and a short night from 9pm to 11. Could have caught 5 fish limits but saw no reason too as a couple of these fish feed a family a couple of meals. Shortest was 23 inches with two over 28. Sooooooo, for persons who asked about fishing from shore up there here you go.. These are some boat fish---- All in all, fishing from bank and watching walleye feed in afire or six feet of water at night was probably the coolest thing I have ever done. Used a red and green light to look for spots they were feeding. As soon as the moon would rise they would move into the banks. Cool stuff.

No, no I don't need details from anyone, I was just curious. I give details to persons who ask about a bite, just don't volunteer a lot of info. Just is what it is. Just a walleye guy thing I guess. Leaving for my spring sturgeon bay trip tonight for a week. After I get back it will be bull shoals for awhile. See ya' guys on the water then.

Hey guys, i have seen everyone has been catching bass pretty well. Impressive indeed. Just curious if anyone has seen or heard anything about a walleye bite of any sorts. I haven't heard anything through the forum or otherwise regarding walleye. I was just a bit concerned. Thanks!

I was down last week Mike with the boy, we went up little niangua, had two limits and 2 eyes, one 21.5 and another 19. All trolling out in 25 foot of water suspended 15 foot. All crappie were packed with eggs, walleye were spawned out but had bellies full of shad. All crappie were 11-13 inches. Very fun trip. Flicker shads any color at 1.8mph Now on to sturgeon bay this weekend ?.

I agreed with wrench and nomolites. When taking people out and about to crappie fish I don't hardly ever mess with docks anymore. Go to the creek channels and look for suspended fish. And 9 times out of 10 the darn things will be suspended 10-15 foot deep over 40 or so foot of water. I run boards, snap weights and lead core. Most if not all will be well above average crappie. Then again one week you will catch a pile in a short period of time and 4 days later they have vanished from the same area. They can keep you thinking....?

it was a decent trip this year. Did fairly well on salmon with a 15 pound average however the meat quality of the fish was amazing. The run was a bit late and wind direction effected it some. Storm thunder stocks in black/chrome and mad flash firetiger were top baits. Slow roll them and they would get wacked HARD. Smallmouth fishing was decent. Lots of the average size fish with a few big uns. They were chasing alewives like crazy, so it was a schoolie bite, fishing white gulp on a 1/4 ounce jighead around the bait balls. Didn't take lots of pictures like usual though.

I feel ya' Sam, usually fish all over the lake all season, haven't been down there once this year. Sad deal....

Great stuff!! Had a couple of perch sammys myself. I didn't even take a pole and very much regretted it...the west winds they had pushed the warm water off shore and brought the cold water in...seen a good number of steelhead and salmon feeding in 20 foot of water off the coast guard station pier on the Lake Michigan side of sturgeon bay. Alewives were absolutely stacked along the banks and salmons is we're destroying them. Very cool sight as those fish are absolutely monsters when they are on the feed. not very cool not having a rod though.. Weather is one helluva lot enjoyable than that here in Missouri. September can't get here soon enough.....

One more piece of advise...if you haven't eaten at The Cookery in Fish Creek. You had better. ;-) I don't normally eat fish while out, but their perch sandwich later causes cravings. :-). Also if your see channel markers and such. Fish them. Sturgeon bay fish like to hang on them.

Trolling, what type of line is everyone using?
rangerman replied to LoweSTX175's topic in Stockton Lake
I use the 15/4 stealth with a leader.. Have caught everything from pike and salmon to crappie on it. Does well, just watch your drag setting if your using a stiffer rod anything besides a medium action rod. -
A goby is an invasive bottom feeding baitfish.. Somewhat like a sculpin..they are plentiful and the gamefish up there all gorge on them. Watermelon, brown and such colored tubes are good imitators. Gobys lacks swim bladder which only allows them to hop along the bottom..that's why tubes are so effective, you can basically drag them and hop them once in awhile. On your way up make sure you stop at howies tackle in sturgeon bay. They are very very helpful with reports fro the entire peninsula. Out of a yak, you will just have to feel out the winds. They can kick up pretty good. Get a lake map and see what reefs have the closest drop near shore. They like hanging around the drops on the edge of the reefs. The shallow water gig where I fish, starts around May spawn and ends post spawn around end of June. A lot of fish then move out onto the reef edges. But my knowledge of the upper pennisula bite is limited and there may be some shallow fish. Can't tell until you get there. I will be up there the July 31 and on for a couple of days. Doubt if I'll fish much though. Taking kids up for the cherry festivals.
-
Haven't fished the upper peninsula. Never had too..the shallow water gig is done I believe. I guess you could catch a few shallow but not real sure. Just view above post anything goby related bait is good.

And how the hell is any of this "General angling discussion. "

#1) dwi related cars wrecks kill a lot of people and innocent drivers. But hey, some of you think, you know it's ok to have a couple and drive around. Outlaw cars and drinking? Also for the ones that think hey it's ok to have a couple and drive around...go do a death notification at about 3 in the morning resulting from a dui crash. #2)In my endeavors I've worked a lot more stabbings than shootings..outlaw knives? #3)Monday quarterbacking someone's decision to act in a milli second situation is irresponsible. Unless you've been there. #4)I'm am guessing and pretty sure there are only a few of us that have been in a struggle that could be possibly classified as life or death. don't try to make assumptions or decisions on what they should or shouldn't do, again, unless you have been in the situation and can provide unique insight. Carrying 24/7 365.. A lot of Leo's have to as it is departmental policy...Many also have something in policy about "cowardice". Oh Al, you don't always have the luxury of trying to determine what the bad guys are going to do.

Cant get intimidated by the big waters of Green Bay. There are always smallies in the sturgeon bay canal but most are in the 2.5-3.5 pound range. Big girls like being out in the bay..as far as sturgeon bay goes the outer edge of larsens reef are good but could be a good paddle. The whole point around sawyer point lighthouse is good. The sweet cherries should be ripe right now. Fill'er up. ;-)

bring plenty of watermelon/pepper flake tubes...drop shot baits in the same color. 4 inch gulp minnows are a good goby imitator. Some Johnson thinfishers in 1/2 ounce weight. Golds and gold sunset are good colors. Might want a few rippin raps, however I haven't used them this much this time of year they are usually hot. Gold shiner/ green craw colors. Stop at howies tackle in sturgeon bay on way up. They have everything you need. You should be able to wear them out. Braid with a 12 floro leader is a pretty good combo. I'll be heading up in a couple of weeks. Then again in September. Love that place. You should take the yak up for the fall Salmon run and let them tow you around. That could be a blast. Good luck!

Good news thanks Mike, with bull shoals being jacked up I have found other projects that need attended to unfortunately. I may run down to loz this week as I just got all my lead core rigs back out. Thought about running up to my niangua arm honeyholes. Getting ready to head back up to sturgeon bay in a few weeks. Problem is they are still not catching anything under 23 inches. Crazy problem to have..lol
