  1. I guess unless we get a bonafide autopsy on these fish, we will never know? As for me, I'm going with the "second gunman on the grassy knoll" theory.
  2. Hmmmm? I could use a new bass boat! Sounds like a good way to get one, except for that "jumping out of the boat right before impact" part?
  3. I'm sure there are several caves that we can't see from the water. The only one I can think of is a small one that is on the bluff opposite PT 7, a bit South of the Plaster Glass House below Slane Chapel Rd. In the Winter, with the afternoon Sun just over the 13 bridge, you can see it. Can't tell how deep or big it is, but I have seen a fox come out and sun himself right in front of it.
  4. Those things are pillow soft and usually greased up enough to just slide off contact. And warm. And heavenly. Juggs shooting hot, throwed, rolls all over. Tasty. For some reason, I have this urge to go to Hooters?
  5. http://www.swl-wc.usace.army.mil/pages/data/tabular/htm/tabrock.htm It's down 2 more feet since last weekend, but when I went by Mill Creek on Sunday, you still couldn't get to the point. Probably needs to get down to 919 or 920 for them to re-open. You might be okay?
  6. Didn't know that? must have just happened? Don't go by there much since the new 13 went in. Anyone know what he's doing? Did he move back to St Louis?
  7. Yes, Wal-Mart has them.
  8. 2 of my favorite quotes, and both apply here: "Not my circus, not my monkeys"! and "Perception IS Reality"!
  9. I simply asked what year or years that the photos were taken? You chose not to answer my question, but rather, make the above comment? But, really, that's why you posted the pics?
  10. what years were these pictures taken?
  11. I was thinking it was at 933+ in 2011? Anyone know the exact record?
  12. trolling in a kayak? I fish from my kayak now and then, just for a break from norm. never thought of doing that?
  13. I am definitely insecure about the future of our country! Tolerance for terrorism, but disdain for a war that ended 150 years ago? Tell them ole boys from ISIS to come on down here to the Ozarks, and we'll show them how we use a fillet knife!

    Big Worms

I remember running out of 12" worms just as I was headed out one evening several years ago. Took 2 8" Larew's, cut of the tail end of one and super-glued each end inside of a small piece of some clear rubber tubing I had on the dock from an old siphon hose. On the first one I made, I accidentally left a small gap between the 2 ends inside of the tube, which apparently held air, and that lifted the worm up slightly above the cone weight as it lay on the bottom. So, I made 2 or 3 more the right way. After I lost the first worm on a snag, I put on the flawed one, and you guessed it! Caught a big ole big un right off the point in front of Schooner Creek Resort Dock.
  15. Been fishing this lake since I was 3 years old; that was 58 years ago! I remember in the late 70's, it was standard practice for guides to fillet several of the keeper bass for their clients. Even guys like Bill Beck, who is a big C & R guy these days. B.A.S.S. and other organizations burst onto the scene and changed the landscape for bass fishing. Tournaments popped up everywhere, and the backlash from pictures like this was what caused concern: Bill Dance Guys like Ray Scott and others were smart enough to see that to perpetuate this tournament industry, he needed to make sure that there were enough big bass to support it. So, BASS became a big contributor, financially and otherwise, to C&R programs. Length and slot limits became law and the various conservation groups and agencies came up with studies that showed that C & R worked! I am not a tournament fisherman! Tried it, didn't like it! Loved the comaraderie, hated the competition. Fishing is my relaxation, and my competition is internal, and the reward is an intangible. I have had enough competition in my life. Played college football, run a small business, and have watched and cheered for my Sons as they played sports in High School and College. I don't have a problem with guys that fish tourneys! Most are decent people. (except Tommy Biffle, who is an A-hole!) C & R, it seems, has been a success? So, what about the guy who wants to eat a few fish? I personally have never eaten a bass that tasted that good! Much rather eat tuna, grouper, mahi-mahi or swordfish. Not too many of those in Table Rock? Guys like Rickf are certainly within their rights to keep legal fish and eat them. Guys like Champ188 and others are certainly within their rights to have a differring opinion. If it was up to me, I would say we should all practice C & R. But, if you've ever been around a weigh-in site the next day and seen the floaters, you would know that it isn't a perfect science. If it was up to me, I would ban day-time tournaments from June 1 thru Labor Day. The 2 biggest complaints I hear from visitors: -tournament fishermen cut them off or almost run them over while they are out for a leisurely day of boating/fishing. -fishing boats getting swamped by the wake boats, and "cruise ships" we see on the lake these days To Rickf- love to hear that you're catching some nice fish. But, the 'in yo face' attitude is ridiculous! To Champ188-you remain one of my favorite contributors on this site. Don't let this guy get to you!
  16. I vote we discontinue using the word "keeper" to describe bass over 15"! There are better words like "legal" or "qualifier" or "good un". "Keeper" should only be used to describe a spouse who either enjoys fishing with you or allows you to fish whenever you want? Or, for those of you whose wives threaten to divorce you for fishing too much, you are allowed to use the universal motto of "Cheaper to keeper"!
  17. And, if they're not biting, "stoned in the morning, and drunk in the afternoon" is a viable alternative, for sure!
  18. People say I'm no good, and crazy as a loon 'Cause I catch trout in the mornin', I catch bass in the afternoon Kinda like my old blue tick hound, I like to lay around in the shade And I ain't got no money, but I darn sure got it made 'Cause I ain't askin' nobody for nothin' If I can't get it on my own If you don't like the way I'm livin' You just leave this long haired country boy alone LOVE ME SOME CDB!
  19. no one is replying because they are all out night fishing with the Ned? I have not fished it at night, but I can tell you that the PBJ color is deadly right before dark. Few weeks ago, we caught them like crazy just as the sun was setting. Do they even make a black Zero or ZinkerZ? Might be worth a try?
  20. that point looks familiar?
  21. Really have not had much of an issue with 'gut hooks' with the Ned? I can really only remember one or two times where I had to get out the pliers or forceps. I HAVE had numerous gut hooks with the Fish Doctor or other soft plastics with the split shot rig. I think the reason is in how the fish eat it? On the Ned, they are usually picking it up when it is in a vertical state on the bottom, so they mouth it first, then try to inhale or eat it. That hook usually gets them in the top of the mouth before they ingest it, especially with Dr Dave's Magic Ned Heads! On the split shot rig, the bait is sliding along horizontally off the bottom or free-falling and they just inhale the thing, and sometimes you don't even know it till they start pulling away. That's when you get the gut hooks! If you use the right line and rod that allows you to really feel the bite, and can set or sweep the the rod right away, you will have fewer problems. Fishing live nightcrawlers is absolutely the worst offender for gut hooking a fish. That's primarily why I switched to the drop shot approach, and even then, you will have a few that swallow it. The other thing that people don't realize is that even if you can successfully get the hook out of a gut-hooked fish without too much blood or other damage, that doesn't mean the fish is going to survive! Think about the fact that you just fought and dragged this fish by the entrails for several feet. I'm thinkin that's gotta hurt?
  22. #6 Maxima Green, spray with reel magic while filling, at 1/2 spool and again at full. Strip off last 3' and retie 3-4 times a day. Easy to work with and tie even with my old eyes and numb fingers. Have tried almost everything else, and I keep coming back to it!
  23. "Can't compete with you guy's but wife and I had fun" "Wife spanked me with the Varmint" Umm, you may be on the wrong forum?
  24. The Ned Heads? Now, that could be the perfect name for those of us that adore that bait? Does Jerry Garcia fish?
