  1. Elderly and physicically challenged? Watch the insults Whipersnapper I resemble that statement.
  2. President Regan signed the deathorization bill on Dec 28, 1981. Thirty years ago seems like only a short time ago a lot of people worked stoppingthis project. I didn't know Al was involved, to him and the others who convinced the rest of us to get involved and defeat it, I am forever grateful that my grandchilderns grandchildern with have the chance to float, swim and fish streams like the Huzzah and Cortois like I did. I still can't believe it happened. Thanks again.
  3. I have a few in my tackle box caught a few fish on them worked best around weedy banks. Ineed to realy give them another try or get rid of them i bought them trying to duplicate the Lazy Ike wiggly worms wich was made in the 60s or 70s and caught me a lot of fish. It was a not very soft pre rigged with 2 hooks on a jig head with a metal crank bait like bill. Fished real slow around vegatation just under the surface. They stopped making them a long time ago.
  4. If you want to float the River Des Peres I think I can get you permission to use the RDP Yacht Club Harbor.......
  5. So if I see a guy on the James singing "I'm to sexy for my Speedo" that would be you. I'll introduce you to the Shelvin Rock cougars.
  6. It seems like everyone is to be commended for the job well done. I have to wonder about the average fine and cost of less than 300 dolars. Who was the judge involved. It would seem that he doesn't really think poaching is very serious. If you want to stop poaching you have to make examples of anyone caught poaching. What this judge has done is to tell poachers if you have around $260 in your pocket go ahead and poach the fine will just be a part of your cost to poach. It has got to be frustrateing for enforcement officers to see these guys walk out of court with a slap on the wrist from a good old boy judge'
  7. Wayne what was your first baitcasting reel and was your first rod like mine stainless steel to go with my Ocean City reel with black braided line. They were hand me downs from my grandfather.Used to string the line between the clothesline post to dry it out after fishing.
  8. You would be better off getting a weather radio. I don't think that many sirens have ever been upgraded. I'd ask your county emergency office.
  9. You bully me? You are living in a dreamland.
  10. Tactian and Smalliebigs you sound as though you are pasionate about gigging but you have gotten to the point you both are sounding like website bullies. So I would think about Twains " Better to remain silent and have people think that you are.........." If you realy feel that passionate about giggers tell the giggers how you feel face to face show every one you do have the courage of your conviction.
  11. Thanks for the info next question is there anywhere lady bugs are sold in the area I had some shipped to me when I lived in central Arkansas had to pay a ton to have them air shipped to me and my yuppie nieghbors complained about me infesting there yards with bugs.
  12. I was cured of colon cancer final chemo August 1998. Sixteen months of treatments. The chemo made me ultra sesitive to sun (burning and rash) and cncer made me more likely to suffer skin cancer.Stared wearing spf 30 long shirts in 1998 and now wear spf 50 shirts and sun gloves and wide brimmed hats and use spf50 sun block on my face. Believe it or not the long sleeve shirts are cooler in the sun than wearing a short sleeve shirt. However I recently had six pre cancerous spots on my face and ears removed. I guess I will be doing the terrorist look this year. I have also noticed that Pete Maina and Shaw Grigsby wearing sun protection clothing. Protect yourself from the sun, protective clothing and sunblock are a lot cheaper than surgery, chemo therapy and radiation treatments. Also a lot easier than the side effects of chemo and radiation.
  13. I thought it would be out of Lake Monticello. Caught on 14lb trilene...........I guess I'm gonna break out my Jelly Worms I guess ol' Tom Mann has got a smile on his face.
  14. Thanks Chief, brings back a lot of memories, Alley Springs was a state park , wood sidewalks in some of the towns, getting in a canoe and seeing hardly anyone else on the Jacks' on a weekday, leaving your stuff in front of your canvas wall tent when you took your kids down to the swimming beach knowing it would be there when you came back. Picking watercess from a spring branch ...............
  15. I can't get an answer from anyone. Didn't the state of MO pass a law makeing it a criminal offense to interfere with anyone legaly hunting or fishing in the state of MO. It was passed as a protection against PETA. Or has that been repealed or was it never passed?
  16. If I can find themm I really like to grow Gypsy peppers. Not as big as the big bell but as sweet as Bannana peppers but big enough to stuff.
  17. We just got a catalog today that listed a hive for Mason Bees supposed to be 20 times the pollinator of the honeybee and non agressive. I never heard of them. Any info about them?
  18. What is an Iphone?...........
  19. we need to stop this thread, I'm still having nightmares about the cougar attack I survived last August at Shelvin Rock all three were fatter than me and wore bikinis and obviously under the influence of the Demon Rum. I'm still terrifed at the idea of being on a river at twilight..........
  20. I was kind of suprised that no shot down my 6 fish under 12" and nothing over 12" limits. I agree with Al that would allow people who want to keep fish to do so and protect the bigger fish. I also wonder about the idea of catch and release until they catch a trophy. On lakes with a slot limit I keep LM under and none over. With the cameras available today you can get a picture and get a replica mount. I know It's not easy to release an over 7lb largemouth or a 22" smallmouth when I've caught fish of that size I felt it was more due the water I was fishing than my ability to find big fish. I also would like to know if there is any relationsnip with the size of Goggleye and Sallmouth in the same area of a stream. I fished the upper Big Piney from Simmons Ford to Mineral Springs probably for about 20 years and ended owning a piece of land above the LAD State walk in forrest and below Brushy Creek. I notice that when over 10" Goggle eye were easy to catch over 15" Smallmouth were pretty rare. In the years when over 15" Smallmouth were easy to catch the Google I caught rarely would reach 10". At that time I never fished in a smallmouth stream before Memorial Day and then fished it hard until the river got low in the summer.( i had a lot of vacation time ) so I would take five or six weeks starting the Saturday after Memorial day and fish the river except for my trip to NW Ontario. I have also noticed haveing moved here in Dec of 07 that once I found my secret spot below Shelvin Rock that it's not that difficult to catch quite a few over 15" smallmouth but I have not caught any over 10" goglle eye. Does that mean people are keeping the Goggle eye and not killing smallmouth or is under 10" goggle eye as big as they get. The only place I have ever caught big smallmouth and goggle eye was on the Ouchita River in the tailwtaers below Lake Catherine down to Malvern Arkansas I just wish some thing was done by the MDC to improve the smallmouth fishing and then enforce the rules and make examples of whoever is caught.
  21. Thanks for your post I for one appreciate guys who make a living guiding who share their knowledge with the rest of us. My question about the A rig is at the end of the day will you have a bigger limit pound wise than if you didn't use the A rig. I really don't care if people use the A rig or not I doubt that I would want to use it just wondering if it would attract bigger fish?
  22. A lot to digest. About the signs at access points, I put the signs on the James River from Delaware Town down to Galena in 2010. I sent emails out last year to Matt Wier to put out more signs at other areas in SW MO, never got any. Would be happy to replace those if needed and to put signs on other streams where they are needed. I might also add that when I called the MDC office to find out the proper place to put them I was told it was illegal to post any signs on MDC access property I put them up anyway and with metal post that I purchased. I was one of the all most nobody who atended the meetings that Gary Lane held in Springfield. I joined MSA because I think that they are the only group that is doing anything about the problems in smallmouth streams I don't believe that world class smallmouth fishing is an attainable goal in most MO streams. I hope I'm wrong but other than the Gasconade or Meramac I don't know that our streams have the water to grow realy big fish. So I don't agree that all their goals are practical. I like the idea of over under on the slot limits, but would prefer 6 under 12 inches and none over. If we really want to protect big fish I've seen good results in lakes with slot limits. To guys that say they don't eat smallmouth because they don't taste good. . Are you saying you would eat them if they tasted great? Worms in smallmouth? Have you ever cleaned a google eye in the summer and not found worms? I don't kill smallmouth in streams because they are too valuable to me and I havn't kept a smallmouth from a stream in over twenty years or from a lake since 1999. I really don't get upset if other people keep smallmouth if it is legal. I wish they wouldn't but it's legal. I'm also sure that you guys, if you catch a 20 inch or longer you are going to release it immediatly and not wait for someone to get out a camera to take a few pictures. I'm sure that is legal but I don't like it. I do believe that no effort to improve fishing is going to work if the Mr Praters of the world are going to be allowed to run the Chief Grey Bears off the stream. If I have any criticism of the MSA I think they should be all over that. I think if that had happened around St Louis they would be.
  23. If you could have hit Marble Creek you would of fished my favorite Smallmouth streams from the 70's and early 80's along with Flucom Creek before it was polluted. Those were fun days.
  24. I said I could be wrong and I was I typed using only wickipedia as my reference and now have found a map from the sate of Alabama that shows the original range includes the Ozarks thanks for correcting me. It was laziness on my part.
  25. I still have a number of double deeps left in the original crawfish pattern. That lure and the Humpy were featured in a bassmaster (I belive) magazine a generation ago, a couple in Florida (?) caught a double limit of largemouth that weighed more than any limit recorded up until that time. The couple were shown holding the fish on stringers I doubt that that would be published today. I remember when Johnson bought bass buster from Virgil Ward they dropped the Brown Beatle from there line and added an Orange Green Yellow Crawfish and when I question a Rep from the company why they dropped the color that looked more like an upper Piney River crawfish than enen a crawfish he told me that they made lures to catch fisherman not fish. Thats when I started making my own plastics. Bandit is a well made bait if I ever run out of the double deeps I probably will be throwing them.
