  1. I like a 1/2oz Terminator with willow blades or at times a 1/2oz short arm spinner bait like a Zorro Agravator with a big colorado bait. I throw them into the heaviest cover I can find and make sure I'm pulling it off the wood. If I'm fishing the Agravator I'll stop it when it comes off the brush and let it helicoptor on a tight line. I try to fish cover that I can see even under the surface, even if I'm fishing in deep water treetops.I never have had much sucess slow rolling or fishing a spinner bait on the bottom in deep water. I know a lot fish a spinner bait like that and have good luck but not me.
  2. Stay on the soap box Cricket, I agree with you. My only point was some of us value quality and service.
  3. Too lazy? Naw, there probably just coc.... Oops, Sorry I can't type that on here.
  4. Theres a lot of us out here. What do you think keeps Price Cutter, Harter house, Orshelen, Ozark Hardware etc in buisness?
  5. You can get a jaw spreader used for Northern or Muskie. I agree with Chief they are part of the system why would anybody want them gone. If you every are lucky enough to hook one hang on.
  6. No size limit on lakes 15 fish per day. They fry up real tasty!
  7. "Just Say Good Dog" by Linda Goodman still available on Amazon. Used it in Feb 2000 to train my 5 week old Cocker. Posative reinforcement had Lady trained in a month. I was retired and had time to spend with her. I could not believe how easy it was using this ladys book. I only trained her to cammands to keep her safe and obidient, sit , stay, come and the most important of all NO. Thedog wants to please you read the book and everyone will tell you what a good dog you have.
  8. If the gale force had been available at the time I probably would have bought it. I may still end up with one the Waterdance had pockets for water bottles and the the older sling pack didn't. Usualy I go with Orvis for fly boxes clothing etc. had never considerd Fishpond before.
  9. Hey quit youre crying. My distant past was the 40s. I remember fishing with a stainless steel rod and an Ocean City reel and black braided line.
  10. Actualy last Friday afternoon on the James below Shelvin Rock I noticed many more crawfish in shallow slack water than I 've since I started fishing the river in 2008. Before friday I hadn't noticed many crawfish in the river maybe it's because the river is so low. I have noiced every Goggle Eye I've cleaned this year has been full of crawfish. But I've also noticed a lot less crawfish sticking out of the throats of the SM LM and KY bass that I've released.
  11. Update: I ended up with a Fish Pond Waterdance Guide Pack and it took every thing that I had in my vest. Finally got in the river Friday and Art Ritis missed the trip. Wore most of the time on my left hip while fishing. Having the water bottle holders was what sold me. I bought it from Fishwest in Sandy Utah on a thursday at 4:30 PM and it was delivered monday at 10:30 by the Mail. That impressed me. Thanks again for the info.
  12. I fish fellows quite a bit but I haven't been outrecently because of the hot weather. You can get a map at the marina for a dollar [i think] that has brush piles on it or you can download it. Google Fellows Lake Map. I have caught decent Bluegill up to 10" fishing from the first point east of the marina down to the fishing platform and then along the road then back up the bank across from the marina up to the first point. If I get out soon I will be fishing from that point back to the shallow water by the road, I would expect to find bluegill in less than 10 foot of water. I very seldom fish with live bait using 1/32 or 1/64 oz. jigs and and Gulp Alive chartruse fish fry .Ive caight quite a few crappie out of the brush in this area along with the odd Bass and Channel Catfish. If I was using live bait I would try Crickets and minnows. Good luck and let me Know if this was any help.
  13. Should have read Ontario Sunset Contry. Old age.....
  14. I've been to NW Ontario's Cedar Lake from 1982 till 1999 almost every year. I flew in for a day twice and fishing was much better but fishing normaly is fantastic at the drive in fishing camps. We always tried to be up there around the first day of summer. Pretty well the Smallmouth, Walleye, Yellow Perch and Nortern Pike fishing was great. Cedar is supposed to be a top muskie lake but we had very little luck with them. We stayed with 5 different owners at 2 different camps and they all were great. I fished one time at Cliff Lake across the highway, all these lakes are connected on the same flowage, for Lake Trout. You might want to Google Ontario Sunset or Lost Bay Resort On Cliff Lake or Jerry and Ellies Cedar Lake Camp. They both have Great Smallmouth fishing. Also once we once went around July 20 worse trip ever hot and very few fish and once the saturday after Labor day and ice and snow started that monday but the fishing was good. All the fishing camps and outfitters have packages where cabin boat motor and gasoline for one price. Make sure you bring a good Gore Tex rain suit. The only thing that keeps me from going back is my age. I,ve been to Alaska twice on cruises but I,ve never fished there but I'm sure that would be Great also but Ontario is a lot closer, cheaper and Alaska has no Smallmouth.
  15. And if it does keep it from spreading then that is a good thing. How can something that doesn't exist be spread. Somebody answer me, please have the laws of physics changed? Can something that isn't here be spread some where else from here? We need to nominate the MDC poobahs for the Nobel Science prize. They, through all their scientific research, have proven that something that isn't here can be spread to over here.
  16. Let me see, none of this substance exist in Missouri, can't grow in warm water streams, but me fishing the James or Big Piney Rivers in felt soles will destroy trout fishing in Missouri? Makes sense to me oh and don't walk to far downstream or you will fall off the earth and don't use a public toilet because you might catch...
  17. Let me know how it works for you. I had one a long time ago heavy and too much maintaince left it in a trash can at a strip mine in Southern Illinois. Of course that was 30 to 35 years ago, maybe they are better made now?
  18. The Disco 119, whether from Dick's or from somewhere else, is a good buy. It won't be the best solo canoe on the market for Ozark fishing purposes, but it's good enough for the price. Now that I've reached 70 years old, I know I can't wade a stream for a full day anymore. Haven't paddle a canoe for at least 20 years so my question is, what is the best solo canoe on the market for Ozark fishing purposes. My idea of canoeing would be taking a fullday to canoe/fish between Delaware Town and Shelvin Rock or Shelvin Rock and Hootentown or Dogs Bluff to Mineral Springs on the Big Piney. I'm not afraid to spend money on a quality product but I have never been in a canoe shorter than 17 foot and I see all the advertisements for for solo canoes and they can't all be as good as advertised. Thanks in advance for any info any of you can give me.
  19. Where have felt soled shoes spread didymo in Missouri streams?
  20. May be the best thing about Alaska, you never know what kind of animal will show up. People pay well over $200. to go on a whale watch cruise for a few hours and you got to see about as good of a humpback show while you are fishing. Everyone who loves the outdoors owes it to themselves to get up there at least once! It is amazing how dependent all life in Alaska is on Salmon every thing including humans eat the salmon.
  21. OK from early 1970's until today, with one exception early 60's at Camp Mccoy WI I believe it was Indian Creek at Army Reserve summer camp catching Rainbows on Lazy Ikes wearing GI combat boots. From 70's on I have fished with combat boots, VN style boots, lug soled bootfoot waders, vibram soled boots, tennis shoes and felt soled wading boots. Probably 95% of the time I fished warm water streams for Smallmouth Bass, in Arkansas the Costatot above Lake Millwood You want to stay quite a way above Millwood because they have a population of Gators, Cado above Lake DeGray, Little Missouri above Lake Greeson, Ouchita above and below the lakes and all 3forks of the Saline River from the hills down to Benton Arkansas. In MO the Castor,St.Francis, Little St Francis,Marble creek, 12 Mile Creek below Cherokee Pass, Big River, Bourbouse, Meramac, Upper Big Piney from Simmons Ford to Mineral Springs,Indian Creek, Hog Creek and Brushy Creek in Texas County,Jacks Fork, Current over around Alley Springs, Floucom creek in Jefferson County before it was polluted, all 3 forks of the Black River including all of the East Fork from the road above the Shut Inns down past the lake on down to the river. St Joeseph River between Berrien Springs and Lake Michigan, the Wisconsin above Lake Delavan and the Cedar River above and below Cedar Falls Iowa. And of course the James River doen here. In the streams with a lot of small gravel you won't have much with your footint no matter what kind of footwear you wear but in faster current streams and in streams with cobble rock or granite slab bottom like Marble Ceek below Johnson Shut ins.I think you need felt. How has your Vibram worked over on the Johnson Shut Inns or Marble Creek or the Castor River or The Oachita River Or The Piney where Brushy Creek flows in and washes away all the gravel?
  22. After seing all of these post, I have meditated and decided that the one option in the poll was not offered. I want to change my vote to yes everyone should stop as they reach there limit and leave the stream......except me
  23. Let me get this straight, you are saying that they work as well as felt? You are full of hot air.
