  1. I first fished the Current and Jacks Fork in August 1957 when Alley Springs was a state park so I guess I should be ranting about all the campgrounds and shuttle services that have ruined my fishing holes over the last 53 plus years and who told you about the Current River anyway. You should stay away from my river you are overcrowding my fishing holes. That sounds about as stupid as you do. You need to apreciate what you have instead of complaining, the last time I looked the Current was a public stream open to anyones use. If you want private fishing buy it, theres a post about land for sale on Crane Creek. Go buy that and you can have your own Trout Hole. When I bought my place on the Big Piney River, I worked overtime for four years to pay for it and our vacation time was spent there, so if I could do it you can too. Or I could just have complained about overcrowded smallmouth streams that never were stocked by the state as trout areas are.
  2. Forgot to mention I fished out of Mayflower area. If it gets windy the lake can get rough.
  3. Lake Conway is the largest man made Fish and Game Commision lake about 6500 acres shallow averages about 6 foot full of Cypress trees, stumps, laydowns etc and full of fish. Jigs, plastic worm and spinner baits for bass, live bait or jigs for crappies or bluegill, also I have seen guys rig yoyos from tree branches with minnows for crappie. Good sized fish but it can be a heartbreaker but when you figure out a pattern you can have spectacular days on Conway. You need to be carefull with your prop and stay in the marked boat lanes when you are moving around the lake. It's quite a bit like Reelfoot Lake not very clear and almost as good fishing. I moved back to MO in Dec 2007 but had some great days on Conway. You can get more info from the Arkansas Game and Fish Commision website. If I was fishing there this week I would be throwing a not very heavy pumpkin or watermellon brush jig and pig, 7 to 10 inch watermellon or green pumpkin worm and a chartruse and white spinnerbait. Good luck this is the time of the year I miss fishing in central Arkasas.
  4. That is the perfect size to [Release to da grease] with fried potatoes beans cole slaw. Of course I have never seen a Walleye that wasn't the perfect size as long as the're legal. Walleye are the reason there are worms, leaches and minnows and Shad Raps and plastic grubs....
  5. I will throw a shakey head just about anywhere. I will drop shot only if I'm in someone elses boat. I have caught fish with a drop shot but it is the most boring fishing I've ever done. I fish to have fun not be bored.
  6. I have a distrust for the scientific community, among other things i have been told that coal dust does not cause black lung disease during congresional hearings maybe 50 years ago same lies about smoking and of course Thalidomide was a perfectly drug to give pregnent women according to scientest. If you don't know what I am refering to ,Google Thaldomide babies and see, if you were born at that time, what could have happened to you if the FDA had listened to the scientest. I think that God or mother nature, if you don't believe in God, did a pretty good job and some things should be left alone by man. If any body cares check out Monsanto owning the genetic rights to potatoes and geneticly altering those potatoes so they are resistent to Round Up herbicide and Round Up is the the only Herbicide that farmers would be allowed to use. The other thing to consider is if a geneticly altered Salmon eliminated natural wild Salmon and an unknown orgasm attacked that new Salmon what would happen to the food supply. Wasn,t there a potato famine in Ireland caused by everyone growing the same potato?
  7. I always carry a collapsable paddle attached to my tube since I had a flipper break into two pieces this past year. Good luck I fished strip mines in the Bellevile--Millstadt New Athens Ill area for over twenty years when I was younger and lived in St Louis. I seldom found better fishing any where since.
  8. I never said that I thought that hatcheries were welfare for fisherman. Thats what I heard from someone else. We need to realize most people in this country do not fish. An even greater number do not trout fish. Now you can make juvenile smart butt remarks about what I posted or maybe you can do something constructive. I'm not the one advocating cutting any outdoor recreation spending. Do you belong to Trout Unlimited or any other group that supports Trout fishing? Have you contacted your senators or representatives? So many times posting on a forum is lot easier than actually doing some thing constructive.
  9. Other than the federal highway trust fund Social security is about the program that has dedicated funding. What don't you understand about dedicated funding. You would do away with peoples, including your own, only chance to retire. How do you plan on retireing without social security to back up your pension.Oh, and let us in on how whith out Medicare you plan to pay your doctor bills? You want to do away with this to keep Trout stocking program that some would say is a welfare program for fishermen. What would you do with the money people have paid in over the years to Social Security. In my working lifetime social security taxes went from 3 1/2 percent to where they are today so we would keep it afloat if the rest of the goverment would make good on there loans there would no shortage.
  10. Cricket, When are you going to show what is under that bumper sticker?
  11. Just do what the voices tell you....
  12. No. I hope I'm wrong but history tells me i'm right.
  13. Al Boudreau once told me if flies, wallks, crawls, swims or slithers it's gumbo. I have never tasted snake and sausage gumbo. I think...
  14. Thanks for the report because my bride thought it might be a good lunch stop on the next trip up that way. I make mine with Zatarains as a start and adjust to taste. Have you ever tried Turkey dark meat or duck breast along with the smoked sausage. Also gumbo is why God made Okra. Other than Guirys in south St Louis before the big flood washed them out of buisness on S Broadway I never found any Cajun food worth a darn in StL thats why I started cooking wy own.
  15. In case you don't already have it, Google eatdemcrawfishsong Makes me think of Breau Bridge, Henderson, New Iberia..... Gumbo, Etoufee, Seafood stuffed breaded deep fried bell peppers, Carnard Farsie. Mulate's ...... Cafe Des'Amis ....Randol's Cajun Music every night I need to cook me up some Gumbo..... Sorry I do ramble but you said GUMBO
  16. If your cell phone ring tone disturbed fishin cricket you would be glad for the extra cops ... Oh and by the way you're the one who doesn't want the cops there you should be the one to tell them off.
  17. Arkansas is full of great fishing water. I lived in Benton for 8 years and was spoiled by the great fishing in Central Arkansas. I don't know any place in Arkansas that doesn't have great fishing water. After the first few years, I never drove much more than a half hour for great fishing water. The Arkansas Game and Fish Commision website has a fishimg report every thursday that they will E Mail you. They also have maps of smaller lakes all over the state that that have great fishing Lake Conway being the largest of them just North of Little Rock.I would give the AGF office in Little Rock a call thy gave me a lot of info when I first moved there.
  18. Thank you.
  19. I stopped by Crane yesterday after lunch and drove down to the park to check on the water level in the creek and drove up to Upper Wire Road parking ang saw no cars. Made the mistake of telling telling my bride, so today we had to go back so she could take pictures. So we went to park, flea market stores, lunch in Crane then stopped at upper wire parking and finally saw a car from Iowa. I'm not into trout fishing because all of my trout fishing in the past has been for stocked trout. My question is why have I seen only one car in two days. I certainly would not be at a trout park in the crowds when a just about empty Crane creek is available. We most certainly will be there fishing next week.
  20. Welcome to the forum. Lot of good advice here.I bought an open front White River Lost Lake at BPS last year and used it on the Finley river above the dam at the park in Ozark Mo. I'm 69 years old and 5'9" and wegh about 225 lbs and it worked for me. There is very little current there and I didn't take it out in any windy weather. You will get wet but I didn't have any back problems after using it and I caught quiet a fish each time I went. The only drawback is you can"t move very fast so I wouldn't go out in any threat of bad weather. I payed less than a $100 for it and whatever brand you get the open fron is much easier to get in and out of ir.
  21. Thanks guys looked at there websight going to call them in the morning.
  22. My sister in law called early this morning and said they had a bad storm over by Lake Springfield that had left mud on the north side of house porch . Jan told her that it probably was dust as we had had our house and yard covered with mud rain from Oklahoma a few years back when we lived in Benton AR and there was no heavy rain at the end so I got to clean it up.
  23. And the tons of people in their canoes and yaks and jet boats. These people who have been trout fishing some will still fish somewhere. Plus where are you going to get the smallmouth. Plus I think you might catch it from the people living around the lake if you tell them you want to turn it into a river again. I don't understand how we need to cut back on money for the hatcheries but we keep sending money to this country or that country for whatever reason.
  24. He was a murder victim. The wildlife were the drug dealers and other criminals. It wasn't too long after this they closed the park at night unless you were going to the Muny or some other approved function. I guess they still have hours that the park is closed. After I made the post I called the MDC Forest Park office to find out about fishing there. Well it seems that you can fish in Jefferson Lake No where else in the park. I guess those bass are still feeding on those crawfish. I guess this is the quality fishing MDC and the city of St Louis were talking about when they used our tax money to rebuild these lagoons and the old riverbed to make quality urban fishing. Fortunatly when we in St Louis last September for my wifes 50th class reunion we ran out of time before we were going to catch a few bass like we had 40 years ago. I would have been really pissed. Why is it people who fish are treated like second class citizens?
  25. Thanks for the post. My wife has been asking for the last month when we're going to fish Crane we drive down to walk the creek quite a bit in the winter and spring but have not fished it yet. What size Mepps were you using? Thanks again.
