  1. I tried strawberries & tomatoes in the hanging bags and I agree with Wayne I don't think they work in this area, they get too hot if you put them in the sunshine they need. They work good in Mich, Northern Ill and Northern Iowa where it doesn't get so hot according to relatives I have living in those areas in those areas.
  2. Containers have worked great for us for Gipsy, Bell and Bannana peppers, Roma and grape tommatoes, Leaf Lettuce Strawberries and Herbs. You just need to have quality soil and keep them watered. I still put cucumbers and Snap peas in the ground.
  3. The Double Deep Wee R in the original crawfish color is still my go to bait. If you really want to get rid of them, because it would be the christian thing to do, I'll take them off your hands ..........just as an act of kindness...............to help you out............
  4. Glad you cleared that up, Ness
  5. You would think that by now they would have found a better jar lid. I put them in small rubermaid containers in the boat or in Zip lock bags in my vest, I found they didn't need to be submerged in a jar keeping them wet in the baggie seems to work. Jerry, have not had any luck using Gulp Alive.
  6. I just almost fell out if my chair laughing
  7. You sure don't know how to have fun I can see giving up IL garden mags but Grainger Pumps?
  8. They can be the most frustating fish I have ever fished for and I honestly believe I have caught as many or more walleye fishing for Smallmouth Largemouth, trout and crappie both down here and up north. I've kind of .stopped fishing for them I seem to luck into enough of them without wasting my time targeting them. I know that guy from Hot Springs that caught that 16+ lb walleye on Lake Catherine caught it on a fat freeshad crank.
  9. MH or heavy 7+ foot Muskie Rod then you can use it on Fellows or Stocton
  10. Don't forget that clan of inbreds cougars between Galena and Hootentown they especialy like fly rod boys
  11. At least keep a supply of Advil and Ben Gay I don't think a surgeon will be needed but you will need to see the chiropracter or whe of them guys thats sticks needles in ya
  12. Bill way back when If you bought a high dollar rod you would get a cloth rod bag which would hold your your rod in one space your detachable handle in another and space for a wood dowel to protect your rod from breaking most people back then couldn't come up with the 30 or 40 dollars a top of the line Heddon or Shakesphere etc rod cost. Most of us never had more than a couple of rods so you learned to take care of them.
  13. Mine is a four star pretty heavy action.
  14. Most are but beware of gravel bars with chaise lounges and coolers nearby cougars will be lurking nearby.
  15. I still have a 61/2' spinning Fishin' Stick I bought from Bud at the St. louis show about 20 years ago to fish small worms I remember him saying that. It still is my go to rod for worms 7" or smaller. Still using hi vis trilene even though I know all these expert fishermen keep telling me I can't catch any fish using it with 20+ year old fishing tackle.
  16. Danger! Warning!! If you are on the James beware of cougars.
  17. I don't share the enthusiasim for Wiggle Warts I gave mine to fishing buddies but I did not give away my Short Warts, saying that, I look at warts on E Bay and I'v seen starting bids for new in box pre Rapala Wiggle Warts with starting bids asking as much as 30.00 but I have very seldom seen any sell for much over $15.00 usualy and short Warts which seem to be harder to get are about the same. But you have to remember people bid on a piece of toat that looks like someones something. I think E bay is a pretty good way to buy lures that are not in production any more like double Deep Wee R in the original colors or the old 2" Bang o lure minnows. The most I have ever paid for a lure was $32.00 for a mint Heddon floating River Runt with the box and all the all the paper work inkuding the Heddon Pocket Catalog and "Insected by " tag. Sorry got off the subject.
  18. I'm joining the Woo Daves crowd and and converting to more spinning equipment. My right thumb has used up all the cartilage in both joints and after x number of years going back to my Ocean City, I'm trying to use spinning for every style of fishing I've in the last few years used spining for worm and jig fishing but I cant get comfortable with spinner baits or crankbaits with a spinning reel and switching to the left hand is not an option at 71 years old.
  19. The gulp alive 2" fish fry in chatruse or white on a 1/32 oz jig #8 hook is my go to for bluegill and crappie but I have caught walleye largemouth and channel cautfish on it while fishing for crappie ans bluegill since I startrd using it. The 3" Chartruse minnow on a 1/32 oz #1 cycle hook that I get from a guy in Fla. is my go to bait in the James River for smallmouth. I swim it, use it as a jerk bait and also jig it. I haven't tried the other Gulp alive very much and when I did I haven't had much luck.
  20. On the shelf staring at me today at wally world Leienenkugel's Canoe Paddler. Couldn't pass it up had it with pizza this evening I really liked it I think Jake L hit a home run with this one. It is a Kolsh Style with Rye......whatever that is
  21. I swore last fall never again and then I got my Burpee catalog the other day and here we go again. I actualy mostly container garden the last 3 or 4 years and I love buying from the local farmers market and I am allergic to tomato plants but I can't stop putting seeds or plants in the ground there is just something about standing in the garden early in the morning and eating strawberries or sugarsnap peas or...............and watching the sun come up........I thonk that next to fishing gardening is the most rewarding addiction there is and I don't think I could live in an appartment
  22. Jerry,Same over here in Republic It was kind of scary around the battery display and when I came out people were lined up at the Propane tank cage.
  23. bfshn thanks for the info The 15lb walleye and the 50lb stripers in lake Catherine are partly the result of AGFC stocking 10" Rainbows They dropped the limit from 5 to 4 fishand stocked 12" to see if that would stop the trout being eaten. I don't know if it helped but it sure made the trout fishing more fun. I was just amazed to find a 10' rainbow in a not that big of a walleyes stomach after it was caught. There also were a lot of the larger sizedRed Fins in the rainbow color sold around Hot Springs.
  24. One of the most important people you can encounter in your life is a first class jig maker or you will spend many winter nights in your basement or garage trying to construct the perfect leadhead jig. It's almost as bad as fly tying and much worse than rod building.
