  1. I took a year looking reading and asking questions. I went out with 2 different guys who have birds. There are features about them that I liked and featured I did not. I especially don't like their 2d sonar. I spent quite a bit of time at Bass Pro asking questions and getting demonstrations. I settled in on the Lowrance products. I suggest that you spend some time looking and talking before you make the plunge because we are talking a lot of bucks here. BTW: There are lots of places on the net that sell way cheaper than local. Many have free shipping.
  2. Not sure about the split but I know he has a curado with 2 sets of gears (3.8:1 and 6.2:1). I think it could be had for about $160 on an hmg rod. That combo cost $250 new not counting the extra gears and the other reel upgrades he has had done.
  3. Would you be interested in a good well kept used setup? If so I know a guy who has some extra curados and fenwick hmg rods.
  4. I have done it some with a Sheridan. We even killed one groundhog with them. I haven't done that in years except to discourage rabbits in my broccoli.
  5. I'd be looking at the Shimano Stradic 2500 for starters. It pairs up well with a Gloomis IMX 6.6 MF rod and with a St. Croix Avid 6.6 MF. The loomis is a bit lighter weight than the avid but both perform well with that reel. I use them for tubes, grubs, jigs 1/4 and less, and sticks.
  6. When did they change the rule? Last I heard you could have up to 33 hooks no matter how many rods you were using.
  7. It varies from year to year and lake to lake. Sometimes as early as February you can find them on a good migration pattern if they are in moving water. Sometimes the best part is early April. It would help to know where you plan to fish since your listed location is more than a few rock throws from where most of us live.
  8. I have made a couple of molds for craws but nothing anywhere that intricate. Mine are hand poured and flat sided but still catch fish.
  9. That is way more technical than any of my homemade resin molds or store bought for that matter. Will the mold be wavy like in the pic. I'd really like to see a pic of the finished product and some of the baits when you get them made. I can't visualize how you are going to get all the appendages to form when you inject. Will the injection port be in the tail or at the side someplace. It might be worth that 400 mile round trip just to see some of them produced. I'm panting at the screen awaiting a view of them.
  10. Are you using pop, bondo, rtv, durhams or some other product to make your molds?
  11. I'm sure I have but don't remember for sure as I have been doing this for many many years. When I use salt (which is rarely), I grind up Kosher salt because of less impurities and it stays suspended better when it is powdered. Additionally, when you use salt it will take more colorant. Here is the ratio that I use: 1/2 cup plastic, 1/4 cup salt, 3 tbl sp softner. Remember salt is there because of it sinking quality so stir, stir, stir, stir.
  12. Yes I do. I have used several brands. What I am using now is from Bear's CPC 2601 medium. It doesn't scorch in the micro like Calhoun's did for me. What salt questions do you have? What molds do you have? Are you pouring or injecting?
  13. I use superglue gel. Is Mend It what you are interested in, if so it isn't. I haven't used it but have one of his other inventions and have talked with him on the phone.
  14. I did not know about that road. I used to fish on the other side.
  15. Just what do you call the Bona bridge?
  16. I was there yesterday. I could only get an early bite and it was on spinnerbaits. Standing timber did not give up anything. I had a limit and some shorts but all was around brushpiles and in open water early.
  17. No sir none what so ever. I have been using it for at least 7 years on this motor.
  18. Look at Easy GPS or GPS Babel. One of them will convert to hb but I don't remember which one.
  19. I talked to a guy at Cape this week. He said that he couldn't buy a bite on the lower end so he drove up there to give it a try. I guess the big boys couldn't catch lower end fish either as they were all over the place running up the Flat and James all day with their wrapped boats. A bunch of them had power poles. I'll bet they never let them down on the Rock.
  20. What are you guys calling the Bona bridge?
  21. They had a die off year before last. I talked to the creel guy and he said he had not seen any all year long.
  22. The last few times I was down there spinnerbaits (chart) was all I could get them to hit. What weight did it take to win?

    Upper End

That would be upper end white. Upper end for me is above Cape Fair since it is closer to home.
  24. I used to use Wonderfoam and Restore. I have switched to Limeaway and Bow to Stern. I have been using Limeaway since recognizing the smell of Wonderfoam to be the same as Limeaway. I use it on the boat, motor and trolling motor. I used Bass Boat Saver for a long time until I tried Bow to Stern. It lasts a lot longer than the other products I have tried.
