  1. You hit the nail on the head, TRR... Ty is a great guy and you'll hear lots of fishing and hunting stories if you hang out with him for a while. His place is a little hard to notice, but he's been parking his truck with a belly boat on top out front and he now has a big "NOW OPEN" banner out there too. "Across from McDonald's" on 14 going toward Nixa is the best description.
  2. I too applaud your efforts... Throwing a cigarette butt or a candy wrapper is one thing, but this is pure apathy and ignorance gone to seed... Someone needs to find this guy and have him clean up the entire Table Rock shoreline... Then the rest of the White River system. What a jerk! Diapers? You've GOT to be kidding me... I hope you had rubber gloves... I would have to have a full HazMat suit and 10 ft tongs to have cleaned up that mess.
  3. I've got to talk up Hendrix Outdoors waders... since I'm the sales rep... Go by Charlie's (Readings Fly Shop) and check them out. They are tank tested 4 times before leaving the factory and have 3M sealant and tape on the seams. They are stockingfoot only, so if you're stuck on boot foot...
  4. That one may be hard to find... unless you catch Davy or TBird somewhere tying them and get them to share.
  5. As Chance said, reels are set up for a range of weights. Best to put them in your hands and check out the feel. Make sure it has a sealed drive to keep any dirt, sand, etc. out of it. Lamson Konic is a very good reel, but there are good Ross, Galvin, Okuma, Abel, etc. etc. etc. etc... Then again, Hendrix has a very nice machined reel for under $100.
  6. You know what? You can't get there from here!!! Kinda depends on what part of the NFOW you're headed to... Snaggy has the right idea and the "easiest."
  7. Larry calls his old high school English teacher to help him... When you make it down, be sure to check out the coffee shop attached to the fly shop. Good Po' Boy yesterday, Larry!!!
  8. I was at ROLF yesterday afternoon and crossed Patrick's a couple of times (no time to fish though.) I might have wet a line at the bridge had the swimmers not been stirring up the water. Got to leave myself more time next trip over...
  9. Try before you buy for sure... I wish I could get over your way and get your local fly shop on some Hendrix fly combos. All 9 ft 5 wt 4 pc rods. 99.95, 189.95, and 279.95. You might get one from a fly shop down here in the Springfield / Branson / Mountain Home area shipped to you. Rod, reel, line, and leader included with a combo tube with the two higher cost rods. Most rods now come 4pc but you can still find 2pc and 3pc rods as well as 6 and 7pc. I have two 8wt rods - one is 2pc and the other a 4pc - and I always pick up the 4pc to take fishing. The 2pc rods are just more cumbersome and most people can't tell the difference when casting them.
  10. HEY... HEY... HEY!!! I'm RIGHT HERE... I can HEAR you talking about me!!!
  11. Guys guys guys... Do you not see what was happening here? The Giant Man-Eating Taneycomo Killer Squid was stalking this guy and he was simply trying to get away from the monster... The guy showed extreme bravery in the face of such danger... I'm surprised he didn't get eaten, but with all that line tangled up, the squid was unable to act due to intense laughter...
  12. Well, while I'm a proponent of catch and release, we don't know the whole story. But to keep such a fish for eating would be a waste as far as I'm concerned. I've had catfish over 50 lb that my dogs wouldn't eat. I don't think the issue here is one of strictly "catch and release" but a concern over wasting. I would RATHER see this fish still be swimming, but that's the angler's choice. But again, we don't know the whole story here. Congrats to the man for such a fine catch and that is one biggun for sure... And... if he followed regulations (and I'm sure he did) then more power to him! Keep the fish...
  13. Some of you know that my employment situation has not been the best lately. Well, I am starting on a new career that I hope will lead to success. I am the sales rep for Hendrix Outdoors for this area. Hendrix has been in business supplying fishing tackle, camping gear, and other outdoor products for over 40 years, mostly in the western states. They have begun expanding and including their own line of fly fishing gear. I set out tomorrow for a few fly and tackle shops I know and looking for more that I DON'T know about. So if you see a big guy wearing an off white cap with "Hendrix Outdoors" on the front, that will be me. I might even let you cast a Hendrix rod and look over some of the other products... I'm really excited about this opportunity and hope you guys can help me find some of those places I'm unfamiliar with. Like I said, we sell all kinds of tackle, camping, and other outdoor gear - not just fly fishing gear. (Now... everyone say "Buy a bunch of stuff from Terry, Phil!!!" )

Are you talking on 265 between SDC/76 and Table Rock Dam in Branson?
  15. Welcome to the nut house, Sarge...
  16. I do a lot of nymphing with my 4wt and even cast soft hackles and small streamers (woolies, leeches, etc.) with it... A 4wt is not just a dry fly rod. Anyway... There are as many questions as there are rods out there. Choosing a rod is best done by putting several in your hands. And it depends on what kind of fishing you plan to do with it. It comes down to, as I've said a thousand times before, what rod fits YOU best... Go to a local fly shop and cast several rods. Find the one that fits you. In the price point you're looking at, don't rule out Echo, and for a few more bucks, Greys Streamflex.
  17. The banner at the top of the page is for this event. We are helping Terry Tanner with a lot of mounting medical bills due to the illness of his wife, Shirley. The Texas Hold 'Em Tournament will be a $10 buy in with the ultimate winner getting a BassPro gift certificate of at least $100 (hope they give us more!) Auction items, fly tying, music, and hot dogs... Just a good time and FREE admission! Branson / Hollister Lions Club Community Building is located on Hwy 76 east going towards Forsyth. Cross the 76 bridge and go one mile. There is a big sign on the left at the entrance. Come on by and just hang out and have a dog. If you want to donate to the fund, that's great! We'd love to see you all there!!! All proceeds go to Terry and Shirley to help with their medical bills. tannerflyer.pdf
  18. Sage replaced the Launch with the Vantage this year. That rod goes for $255. They are nice rods for sure. Seven wt rods are a good size to go with for night fishing for large browns or smallmouth fishing where the bigger ones are. It will cast heavier flies needed for that. TFO Pro is a good rod as well. $160 new with a lifetime warranty, but no rod tube. Make sure they have the tube and sock with the rod and see if they registered the warranty with Sage. Might not be a problem, but could be...
  19. Nice pheesh!!! You should hire her to guide you...
  20. Let's hope all the photos and videos have been destroyed as well... Just messin' wit' ya, FW....
  21. I thought you were in Alaska... Are you on a daily commute to Dillingham?
  22. Well, there is that snobby Dano guy , but other than that I agree... Of course SOME of us counterbalance the snobby ones... Yep... Great forum. I'm pretty much down to three and this one is the one I go to the most...
  23. I interviewed Kyle for "Ozark Memories" about the long boats. He did a great job... You can go here and listen to it...
  24. Is it OK if I toss my Cohiba butts in? The trout seem to enjoy that fine smoke... I do keep my cigarette butts in my wader pocket. I don't get people who pitch 'em. But then again, I don't understand a lot of things people do... like cull fish...
  25. Another fine job...
