  1. Chiefs fans use correct grammar, however.
  2. x2, hope the kid got the money, best 4H project ever!
  3. I hate the Raiders, but must admit that they have some dedicated fans. They have nothing to look forward to in the near future, and the past few years they have beennot much better than the Chefs. I'm not predicting the Chiefs will win it all, but we have a lot more talent than the Raiders. Go get some more tatoos, raider fan, there's always next decade.
  4. Neither would be smart enough to know what was causing that burning sensation!
  5. I think any cattle in the river should be fair game, if you can get in a canoe you can have it. They do a lot more damage than the drunks.
  6. Same thing holds true for one or two hook and line poachers, they can wipe out a good hole pretty quickly also. Most fishermen are pretty ethical too, but it only takes a few ...
  7. It was a good weekend, and I think all the canoes are kind of like guys shuffling, they go through and kick up food for fish. I have caught lots of fish just after a big group of boats goes through a riffle. Fish are all used to canoes by now.
  8. Every spring we have the annual whinefest about the aluminum hatch ruining the fishing on the popular stretches of river during the summer. It looks like we have a couple weeks of mid-summer weather coming up and the crowds have now died down, so it is your time now! I can't speak for the rivers that are the closest to the big cities, but the NFoW should easily be enjoyable this weekend, and every other weekend from this point on. Since the fishing won't be the best in the heat of the day, leave early or wait until late and you will really have a good trip. It's still a little hot for me to want to be out fishing all day, but for those who enjoy dog day fishing without the crowds this is your time. Only about 37 weeks for you fishermen to get in your time before the rivers are once again taken over by the evil-doers!
  9. They have a sign and there was some caution tape around the opening as well.
  10. Like others have said fly fishing can be the most effective way to fish for some things, but for me it is all about the process. It slows you down so you have a chance to enjoy your surroundings and becomes about more than just fishing. Wading for trout it becomes more of a solitary sport because it is tough to fish a riffle effectively unless you spread out. If you like to wade fish trout alone then fly fishing is for sure the way to go, from a canoe or kayak it can be a big hassle. Each year I get a little better at fly fishing for temperate bass, and while I still use spinning gear to find the fish, as soon as I catch one I switch it up, and I think I catch more on flies then I would have on conventional tackle. And like RS said, popping bugs and bluegill is a good way to start, and will likely get you excited to expand your horizons. Bottom line, if you have the time, and lots and lots and lots of patience, then by all means go get you a fly rod. Then take advice from people that fish each river that you go to because fishing a trout park is totally different than fishing Crane Creek, which is totally different from fishing the Current, which is different from fishing the Eleven Point, and so on.
  11. Saltwater takes time to learn to love, once you do there is nothing better. Love those jacks, and little tunny are pretty fun to get into as well.
  12. A few years ago we put some raised beds here behind the campstore. Loved them, but forgot we lived in a flood prone area, now raised beds are in Norfork Lake.
  13. I'll add Corps of Discovery to my list, love Lewis and Clark stuff.
  14. I have lots of Wenonah canoes, so that must make me elite, and oh yeah a pair of leaky Simms waders that I need to send in.
  15. Can they pick which half, or the 1st and 3rd quarters, what a silly thing.
  16. Been on a Hemingway kick, just finished The Sun Also Rises which I really liked, A farewell to arms a little to much of a love story for me, Old Man and Sea great, Snows of Kilamanjaro and Sweet short life of some guy were both good short stories. Next up Capote's In Cold Blood.
  17. Ain't that the truth!
  18. Clowney could really put a damper on homecoming! I hope they can at least beat the bottom feeders in the SEC this year, nothing wrong with being a middle of the road team in the SEC, kind of where we were in the Big 12, with some above average years, and some below average years. I'll take it.
  19. More people (including a 76 year old man), keep getting sucked down the hole, looks like it is more of a liability now than ever. I fully expect it to be fixed how it was before the breach. Bummer!
  20. I wonder about this also, but I think a boat passage, which I have envisioned as a small dip in the dam, wouldn't allow free passage of fish from the lake under normal water conditions.
  21. Saw the Love Doctors and Monsters in the Morning in West Palm, good stuff!
  22. Sounds to me like for what you want to do, just buy you some camo burlap to wrap up in and cover yourself with it and a little natural vegetation when you get where you are going, and see if it works. If you lie still and aren't out in the open, you'll be fine.
  23. I can't remember, but did they have a place to take them? Didn't look to me like many of the Katrina people could afford any lodging. This is pre-storm planning that needs to be thought of by any and all parties. Each city that could be hit by a hurricane needs to have a "refugee camp" plan for those that can't afford to go anywhere, otherwise the same scenario will play out time and time again. I can understand people wanting the infrastructure fixed, but the rest should be up to them, after all they live in a dangerous place, if you don't want to deal with it, move! For goodness sake don't give them money to rebuild back in the same spot.
