  1. Had a great float Saturday With the wife and another couple. The girls did most of the fishing, both are fairly new at fishing. My wife caught 1 trout about 14" Not far from greer. I had several bites but could not hook any up. Spent most of our stops on the upper part rescueing canoes and gear from one party of goofs. The wife caught another trout above Little Hurricane creek got a pic and it wiggled off. She was very excited. Got pulled over by a couple of Oregon Counties finest at the creek mouth. after a lic. check we fished that hole for a while without any luck. The law dogs motored off for greener pastures up stream. The officers passed us at least 6 more times, slowing down and waking us each time (whats up with that?) Anyway great trip lots of jet boats near Whitten. We got in early set up our chairs and enjoyed the show. We ate at Benita's in Alton on Fri. nite. The food was pretty good, I could live on the fancy fries(portabella mushrooms).
  2. Maybe you could post a sign on the truck that reads: I can see this vehicle through my rifle scope.
  3. 68 is the way we come home from STL. Dont take this way if you have anyone prone to car sickness. We usually tell our visitors to take 72 as it is a much nicer road. On a side note: the Salem Tigers football team has beat many a team they should not have because of that bus trip down 68. Nothing like home field advantage.
  4. This was covered just recently here. You have to have a trout "stamp" to KEEP trout outside of the trout parks. The discussion was here,,,http://ozarkanglers.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=23648&hl=trout stamp&st=0
  5. I dont like messin with the jet boats so I would stay above Round Spring. For me a 2 day float is 7 - 15 mile max that gives plenty of time to fish set up cam and not have to hurry at all. So like Gavin said pulltite to round is a good one. This fri sat and sun me and 8 or so guys will be floating akers to round. 3 days to do 20 some odd miles. They are called float trips for a reason! PS Good to see Gavin postin again I thought you might have been traded to Russia for a spy to be named later...
  6. There is all kinds of parking down at Welsh. 1 Parking lot at each access and acres of parking at the old lodge. As safe as any where else I guess. Ive never had a problem but dont leave anything in view and lock it. This area gets lots of traffic from folks walking the spring branch trail.
  7. Just to clarify one point. The Meramec river is NOT a National Scenic River.
  8. Here we go again.... get some pop corn!
  9. Yep Dry creek comes into the Huzzah just above Hwy 8. Dry creek has trout all the way up to Fishermans dude ranch! (Now some bankrupt fancy trout fishing establishment)
  10. I was fishin with a buddy of mine a few weeks ago, on the Current river, who informed me that he had to renew his license in a few weeks. What! " Yeah I bought it in June last year" ARRRRRGGGGG Come on were are headin to the store licenses are due March 1st...."really?"
  11. The lack of a $15 fishing license cost the Citation $912,825, not to mention first place and a spot in the record books in the 52nd annual Big Rock Blue Marlin Fishing Tournament. http://www.havenews.com/sports/record-7228-win-setting.html Oh my that "unlicensed hired mate" better watch his back...
  12. Most of the county roads are not owned by the counties. Here in Dent co. out of the 600 some odd miles of road the county acually owns around 6 miles of road. A person only has the "right of way" across my property on the county road, no other rights( parking, wood cutting, hunting, etc are allowed.
  13. Isnt that called "chumming"?
  14. Where you doing your best Ralph Brown imitation? He was a legendary figure on the huzzah and Courtois creeks. He could pole upstream faster than most folks could paddle down.
  15. Great advice Gavin...bet we could float blindfolded! If there are alot of canoes out this weekend I will have to go salvaging mon or tue...The spring folks bring the nicest stuff!
  16. That is a great distance for an over nighter. That stretch of the river at this water level can be pretty tricky for a novice, though.
  17. That is one great cave. This white nose excuse is a load of huey. We dont have it here in MO. It is just an excuse to keep folks out of the caves!
  18. lets flash signs at each others boats as we go by...Works well in the hood to find out who is who!
  19. Hey you guys know that enforcement officers watch fisherpersons all the time with spotting scopes. Have for years.
  20. Hey guys It has always been legal to have loaded weapons on National forest lands. We have no National Parks in MO. we do have areas and buldings administersd by the Park service. On the ONSR it has always been legal to open carry while hiking or hunting. Concealed carry is legal now in a canoe or while wading9 If you have an endorsment) the river. This new law will allow you to have a loaded firearm in your vehicle or boat now and ccw anywhere but buildings.
  21. Are those gig hole in that canoe? I fished below parker on Friday afternoon. Caught 1 brown where that hackberry tree fell over. Also fished below cedar trying to catch that big dude down there but it wasnt interested in anything i had to throw. Got back into town in time for the 9" of snow.
  22. As of yesterday the road is clear. 1=2 inches of snow predicted for today. Heading down to CG now. Will give you a report later this afternoon.
