snagged in outlet 3 Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 I'll second Trattoria and Lorenzo's but I haven't tried the other places. Yet. Thanks Gavin. Ever try Tony's in Alton IL? Old school, but they are famous for their beef pepperloin, and it is good! In fact that's all I've eaten there. SIO3
Gavin Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 Nope, never been to Tony's in Alton, will check it out next time were across the river. Ever try the calves liver and onions at Lorenzo's? Think its my favorite dish there. Stellina just opened up about two years ago. Both Trattoria and Stellina were within walking distance of our old house, but we preferred Stellina. Pasta's are hand made in house, and you never know what you are going to get because there are only 3-4 things to choose from and they change daily, lunch sanwiches very good. Wish they had a better wine selection, but the food has always been great. Re-discovered Frank Pappa's a couple weeks ago. Had a wild game & morel mushroom pasta with two quail on top of it. Yummy.
snagged in outlet 3 Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 No organs for me. Grew up eating them and didn't really like it then, so wouldn't order it now. I like a place that changes the offerings. I've been close to going into Pappa's but it just dind't happen. Alot of times I'm at the mercy of clients or the boss. Gavin, I think we have a mutual friend. Maxlinespeed? SIO3
ollie Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 I'm sorry, didn't mean to come off in that way. Bad night at the house. Around here in hickville all you hear about is the rave of OG. If these people only knew there were much better out there. I use to live in Alton and have eaten at Tony's. Pretty good stuff. When I lived there there used to be a place over in Edwardsville that was good also. The guy that owned it was Badalamenti (sp?). Can't remember if it was named after him or something else. fly2fish Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 Last week alone I ate at Cunetto's and Amighetti's, both on The Hill. I eat on The Hill at least every other week if not every week. Zia's, Gitto's, Gianni's, Rigazzi's, all of them. Lucky $@%&, I will drive all the way from Oklahoma just to eat on The Hill, usually at Favazza's, sometimes it is hard to find one open on Sunday's though. In St. Louis Pasta House and Olive Garden are considered fast food. In Branson P.H. isn't bad, Rocky's is more reasonable and good, also my wife and I ate at an Italian place up by the Welk Resort for our 25th anniv. it was expensive but it was a gift so it didn't seem that bad. Also watch for busses in the parking lot before you go in to any place in Branson, they usually have a place set aside for them but the service can be slow sometimes.
snagged in outlet 3 Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 No problem Ollie. Favazza's!! Been a while, I'll have to hit it again soon. Yeah F2F, it's nice being able to eat down there frequently. Milos ain't bad either, for a bar. SIO3
Danoinark Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 If you have any favorites I can share a recipe or two. Hey Gavin, how about a nice red sauce recipe from there? Thanks Dano Glass Has Class "from the laid back lane in the Arkansas Ozarks"
Terry Beeson Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 Snagged..... DUCK!!!!! Dino's or Atrium in Mt Home? I've not tried either, but have heard Dino's is good. I worked with a fellow a few years ago who was Italian from Boston (first 50 years of his life) and he recommended finding a restaurant where the chef was Croatian/Bosnian/Hungarian. He said Italian men can't cook... Then again, there are different Italian cuizines as well. But he ruined me with a couple of places he recommended in my travels. I found out Italian food can be "il più eccellente" (most excellent) or just good. And then there are the Italian equivalents of "Tex-Mex." I'd love to go back to The Hill for some really good Italian. Trav Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 Pretty slim pickings for "Old-school" authentic Italian eateries in the Branson area. Although, Tony Z's does a pretty good job menu wise. Some would say a bit pricey but I make it a point never to look at prices when I dine out. I dont like the price of an item to influence my decision making.
