rps Posted March 1, 2009 Posted March 1, 2009 If you add Oklahoma lakes, Tenkiller is a natural because many who fish below it (trout and striper) also fish in the lake. Same is true of Broken Bow, a true highlands lake in the Kiamichi Mountains - the ones that in Arkansas are called the Ouchita Mountains. Many don't know it, but it has a trout fishery below it that holds some giants. These two lakes are regulars on the competition circuits as well.
techo Posted March 1, 2009 Posted March 1, 2009 I agree with RPS as usual. If you look at the different topics the active ones all have one thing in common. Active interested admin. Table Rock and Taney are fairly fun to read, even if you don't fish one of them. You and Babble keep them lively and intriguing. Trueman is an awesome fishery, but not as active. (No offense intended to any moderators.) You have to beg for information in there. It is your site to do with as you will, but an active admin would seem to be important. Thank for all you have done so far. I cherish the information and friends I have made in here. Tim Carpenter
ness Posted March 1, 2009 Posted March 1, 2009 Phil, There are pros and cons for individual forums IMO. If you want specific info, they're nice. Maybe some of the less popular /slower forums ones could be grouped into an 'other' category and the good descriptive info pinned at the top of the forum. The new additions are fine, but maybe get lumped into a non-Ozark category or something like that. You're right - - it's hard to keep everybody happy. I appreciate the effort you put into this, and I'm sure a lot of others do to. John
jdmidwest Posted March 1, 2009 Posted March 1, 2009 Its great. Leave it alone. Plenty of content already. Have you done any research as to the demographics of the users on here? Seems like most are covered with the OK, KS, MO, IL, AR, and TN areas. A state by state for the rivers and lakes in the states touching MO might be enough. I thought you already had a regional division to break stuff up. Put up a poll and see where everyone is from or what the interests are. How about a P o l i t i c a l F o r u m or one covering current events other than fishing or hunting? It seems to get traffic moving. CMAC Posted March 1, 2009 Posted March 1, 2009 Phil: Expansion is a great thing and I totally agree that some consolidation and reform is needed in certain areas. However, just remember why you started the forum and why it has become so popular. Years ago there was a similar website that reported just on midwest fishing activities and it became very popular. Then the website took a more corporate appeal and began covering everything under the sun and in my opinion lost some it's luster and following. Just my two cents. This site is really great and I appreciate that it is free of charge.
Danoinark Posted March 1, 2009 Posted March 1, 2009 I have to agree with Dutch. I want to read about trout fishing and do not want to be bothered with the other stuff. Some way of going to posts that only pertain to one type of fishing so that you do not have to filter through the rest. Laker if you check under your options you are able to subscribe to individual forums where you will receive email updates just on those that have your interest. DOITLOOKIT Posted March 1, 2009 Posted March 1, 2009 Phil, just my 2 cents worth. Most people that use the forum are computer literate. That being said, I would like information on Texoma, Fork, Livingston and more lakes that I have the opportunity to fish ocassionaly. But I can look up those lakes and information on the internet before making trips. I read the OAS forum for local lakes and gather information that will assist me in my fishing here locally. I understand what you are saying and trying to improve the forum, but how much is too big. "Sorta" like our government - bigger is not always better!!!
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted March 1, 2009 Author Root Admin Posted March 1, 2009 Laker if you check under your options you are able to subscribe to individual forums where you will receive email updates just on those that have your interest. Dano This is a great option for those who don't want to be bothered by off issues or parts of the forum you don't want to wade through. If you haven't already discovered it, it'd be worth looking at. Great suggestion, Dan!!

brownieman Posted March 1, 2009 Posted March 1, 2009 I enjoy your site just as is. If anyone needs info concerning anything there are generally plenty of options out there in these days of technology. Whenever I seek info on anything I generally get swamped with info...almost too much at times. my 2 cents... My friends say I'm a douche bag ?? Avatar...mister brownie bm <><
