Fly_Guy Posted May 9, 2009 Author Posted May 9, 2009 If it weren't for those holligan car salesmen, we would never know what car we couldn't do without! And if it weren't for those helpful gents at the local fly shop, we would never know that the scuds we tied were no good, and we needed their special variety - jk And if it weren't for people like me belly-achin', happiness would spread like swine flu!

Bman Posted May 9, 2009 Posted May 9, 2009 I have! Wrench was kind enough to part with a real nice 9 footer (he's taking payments, LOL), and even invited me up to teach me how to use it! (he did a good job too!) And a really nice gentleman here on the forum has offered to give me an older rig of his, I just have to hoof up there to get it.. This forum has been very hospitable to me, and I appreciate it very much. You guys do know I am one of those hooligan car salesmen, right? LOL Cool. Welcome to the world of fly fishing. A wise man once told me that, " I can teach you to cast in an hour, you will take a lifetime perfecting it" wishing you well on your journey. The only good line is a tight line
Fly_Guy Posted May 9, 2009 Author Posted May 9, 2009 Cool. Welcome to the world of fly fishing. A wise man once told me that, " I can teach you to cast in an hour, you will take a lifetime perfecting it" wishing you well on your journey. And Patrick McManus once said to cast as though you were a little old lady trying to fend off a bat with a broom. Not many things more relaxing than fly fishing though. I love it - got started on bluegill and bass up in kansas, and was pleased to learn that you could catch trout on flies too, after moving down here. I would suggest taking up tying as well - if you plan on flyfishing for any considerable amount of time. A fellow loses enough flies to make a fly tying kit worth it. If trout got 'hooked' on the cigarette fly, would it be banned to try to help underage trout? Would you have to pay some crazy "cigarette fly" tax?
Okieflyfisher53 Posted May 9, 2009 Posted May 9, 2009 Here is an interesting fly and article by Jack Gartside http://www.jackgartside.com/step_filter_fly.htm By the way, I agree that smokers shouldn't throw their butts in the water or on the ground. I stick mine in a pocket and carry them home to be disposed of properly. Steve
FRENZEL Posted May 10, 2009 Posted May 10, 2009 The thing with cig butts is that smokers can smoke a pack or 2 a day. You don't drink 2 cases of mt. dew a day and throw all those cans in the water. You don't break or lose 20 floats. I have come to ask my clients to put butts in an empty can or bottle. Takes no more time. It is no different from wadding up a piece of paper and tossing it out. I quit almost a year ago, but when I did smoke I would most of the time dunk it in water to put it out then knock the rest of the tobacco out then throw the butt in my chestpack, stunk up my chestpack for awhile but i couldnt smell it until after i quit. To anyone that even somewhat wants to quit, ask your doctor about Chantix. Seriously, it works, it worked for me and at least ten other people that I know. Think of all the fishin stuff you could buy with 150 bucks a month (5bucks x 30 days)! Its like getting paid to save your life.
zsmith62 Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 Im sure it doesnt make that big of a difference, but I remember something I saw on tv about how many toxins stay in the filters and how they can effect the environment when littered. Zach Smith
