KCRIVERRAT Posted August 8, 2009 Posted August 8, 2009 Thanks Phil! I believe I know what you're doing. I've already dismissed Cold Water's nonsense... KC HUMAN RELATIONS MANAGER @ OZARK FISHING EXPEDITIONS
CaptainJoe Posted August 8, 2009 Posted August 8, 2009 My thoughts! Yes, I am a guide. But, I do not guide for a living. I am retired and want to stay that way. I only take 8-9 trips per month. All other trip requests above this amount are passed on to my other guide friends that guide for a living. Why do I guide: 1. It was a challenge to become a Coast Guard, U. S. Merchant Marine Officer, 2. It is a challenge to put clients on fish every trip, 3. It is rewarding to see clients catch fish, especially kids, 4. It is rewarding to share my fishing knowledge and experience with others, again, especially kids. I worked hard to become a guide, but not as hard as the guides that do it almost every day. I have the utmost respect for them and what they have accomplished. Do I get upset if someone follows me or comes up on one of my spots. Yes, I do. It is starting to get so bad, that I am considering removing my guide service logos from my boat so I will not be so conspicious. But, if I was guiding or just out fishing, it would bother me the same way. It is unprofessional for anybody to follow another fisherman or ride up on another fisherman's spot, guide or not. It is just a matter of respecting another fisherman, which respect for others is slowly waning everywhere in today's society. Cold Water is a perfect example. Phil.....keep those videos coming......makes this thread more interesting. Captain Joe Hreha Owner of MO Fenchbulldogs.com; Captain Joe's Guide Service (Retired); OAF Contributor; & Captain, U. S. tapout Posted August 8, 2009 Posted August 8, 2009 Is it against the law to cut in line a wal-mart? Is it against the law to cheat on a test? Is it against the law to lie to your boss? Is it against the law to return used merchandise to Bass Pro? The answer to each is no. The difference is some people know right and wrong, while others have no freaking idea. And truthfully everyone draws their own moral line!!! Champ, Nice speculative observation. Liked it. I'd like to thank my FUTURE sponsers: Falcon Rods, Jewel Bait Co, and Seagar
stone9-7=2 Posted August 8, 2009 Posted August 8, 2009 LOL,thank's Phil.... Orval makes better popcorn though. I'm no guide & don't want to be. All I know is you don't have to be a guide to have people run up on you while fishing. We have all had that happen at one time or another. Makes me mad also,so I'm sure 99% of us feel the same as Bill or any other guide for that matter. As far as following people that's a crock. Try following me with my little 50hp & you will end up beating me to where ever I may be going. LOL CaptainJoe I like your spin on it.

You always catch fish so I'm sure it's a good place.
Bill Babler Posted August 8, 2009 Author Posted August 8, 2009 Both of those videos are fantastic. I just love that rod and reel going in the lake. Might have happened to me a time or two. I have absolutely no problem with ColdWater's views of either guides or professional fishermen or women, they are his and he is entitled to em. I'm just glad everyone doesn't feel that way. Make no mistake about this however, I don't go fishing, I take clients fishing. It's not my job, to fish. It is my job to see that my clients have fun and are completely safe while doing it. I strive to be better at my job everyday. I learn something from everyone that enters my boat, and I truely appreciate every client that gives me the opportunity to spend a morning on the water with them. Every once in a while like a couple of times this last week, I do get to fish. Big thanks to Dave on Monday, and Scott on Thursday for letting me be your buddy on your fishing day. I do however have reservations about giving fishing locatons and information that others have paid their hard earned money for to those that just ask for it. The locations that other guides have or those locations that I use did not come free, they as any of yours are hard earned and most often cost not only money, but time in finding them. Contrary to popular belief, and if your a follower of the forum, you will also see that Locations in some cases do replenish, but in lots of cases do not. This is not conjunture on my part it is knowledge. It is also state of the art sonar. I know whats down there. I very seldom ever fish a location more than 1 day per week. I strive to constantly keep my guests on fish that are not camera shy and have not been under constant prussure. It is my job to not wait for the fish to bite, but to create bites for my clients, and by keeping them on as low prussure of fish as possible, most times I can achieve this. If you have problems with the way the guides operate, I'm extremely sorry, and if sometime we act like this is a job, "We'll maybe it is". if you do it right. http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
crappiefisherman Posted August 8, 2009 Posted August 8, 2009 Look on the bright side. You could be a crappie guide .Heck most crappie fisherman cant find there way back to the ramp after a half day of actually having to find fish on their own [ [
Whack'emGood Posted August 8, 2009 Posted August 8, 2009 Translation of the above: 1) I'm too immature to express my misguided feelings above the level of a 5-year-old. 2) I have no fishing skills and greatly envy those who do, especially those who are able to make their living at it. 3) In fact, I'm so consumed with envy of pros and guides that I wish they didn't exist so I didn't have to see them doing what I wish I could. I agree with Champ. It all sounds like jealousy to me. ColdWater has probably never even been remotely good at ANYTHING worthwhile and he is bitter. "Success builds confidence, and you have to learn to trust your instincts and forget about fishing the way a tournament is supposed to be won. I'm going to fish my style and make it work for me." -KEVIN VANDAM "Confidence is the best lure in your tackle box." -GERALD SWINDLE "A-Rig? Thanks, but no thanks. If I can't catch them on the conventional tackle that I already use, then I guess I just can't catch them." -LK (WHACK'EM)
Thom Posted August 8, 2009 Posted August 8, 2009 Bill: Just a few comments on my guided trip this thursday.. I spent 1/2 day with a guide which I won't mention but you will probably figure it out. He did his job well and Zach and I learned some new things. I paid around $220 tip included for the service and think is is ridiculous that anyone would follow a guide and expect the service for nothing. The guide that we used stopped several times as we played tag with the wistle and the core but He did not hesitate to greet the other boaters and offer advice as to what to use ... we helped one boater get his boat off the Island since he had not noticed that the water was turned off ... our guide got out of the boat and helped them as well as tell them what was working. Our guide also offered advice and gave some flies to one wader as we left the water at the condo's. It has been my experience that most of the guides are nice guys and are willing to help anyone with a little advice. To me someone who follows a guided trip and shadows them for very long is no better than a shoplifter at walmart.. Thanks for all of the info that you so willing share and I hope some day to use you for a trip. Thom Thom Harvengt
