FishinCricket Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 So, stay PC, either agree or keep quiet..... or risk being iggy'd So much for that comfortable, ok to be yourself, fishing buddy atmosphere illusion I had. Wrench, our entire lives are lust an illusion, and in more ways than one. Not to argue, but there are many ways that I am restricted on forums.. I am not allowed (because of my profession) to discuss certain topics whatsoever.. A self imposed ban if you will, but there's a reason for it. Where I am not restricted, I am totally myself. If I disagree that vehemently, I PM and work it out. Dunno exactly what I am trying to say here, mainly just that this forum should be the one place where it is possible to relax and discuss fishing, be yourself, and have a good time. (eyebrow raised) I didn't know it was you who's been stirring up the trouble round here. This iiiis interesting.. (mainly cause you are a great guy) cricket.c21.com

techo Posted August 28, 2009 Posted August 28, 2009 I too try to stay out of most of the odd stuff. I don't mind the annual discussion regarding catch and release versus catch and eat. I also don't mind the annual discussion about fishing the beds. I am surprised the discussion of artificial baits versus live bait doesn't come up more. The occasional Skeeter versus Champion versus Ranger is also in good fun. No offense to Nitros an Trackers or any other brand for that matter. Those discussions are usually stacked on REASONs why you support your particular perspective. With all of that in mind, I know without a doubt that a certain new person (new to these boards anyway) has raised the ire of the regular guides and some regular posters. IMHO this person offered nothing of value or an argument that was based on facts or perspective supported by anything. The guides have offered to leave if that is the direction the board is going to take. I would rather see them use the ignore button, than become like many of the forums with very few informative posts. Anyone ask a question in the Truman Lake forum lately? Very seldom is there an answer. As I have stated before....common courtesy and respect doesn't seem to be all that common anymore. If I had a vote....it would be for cultivating and even on occasion fertilizing respect and courtesy. Probably old fashioned silly on my part though. Tim Carpenter
Gavin Posted August 28, 2009 Posted August 28, 2009 I've got no need for an Ignore button... Folks who take themselves, their biz, or their fishing to seriously are in need of a bit of ribbing, IMO. Frankly, who cares if Coldwater gave a couple Rock guides a bit of grief for taking themselves too seriously and driving around in glitterboats with patches all over their shirts? Their big tough competitors...they should be able to deal with it right? I wont go so far as to say that Ray Scott, Forrest Wood, and Johnny Morris are in cahoots with the man down stairs, but I'd have to say that the whole Bass Pro Tournament/Bass Guide scene looks kinda silly from my perspective. Its not my cup o tea, and I've got no issues with anyone who wants to make light of it. I've got no issues with folks who want to give me a bit of grief either. I just come here to waste a bit of time and chat about fishing. Plus I can take a joke. I say heck with those who cant, their absence will not be missed. Cheers.

I gave'em crap not because I dislike them or what they said, or because of jealousy, but because I recognize the pattern. That's the cool thing about being schooled a fisherman. If you ever succeed at competitive fishing at all, even for a while, but then life takes you in a different direction, the one thing you never loose is the ability to recognize a pattern. Not only fish patterns, but people (especially other competitive fishermen) can be patterned too. After a few more years (and maybe a divorce or two) they'll realize that the only real sponsor they have is themselves. And once you satisfy the obligations of THAT sponsor......You don't have to pretend to be better than you really are, and most importantly you don't have to attend boat shows and product seminars anymore....YAY ! I sometimes spout off on here, and usually get brought back down to earth by someone with a less bias point of view....so it's all good. Hell, I wouldn't even iggy a gigger.
mclothier1 Posted August 29, 2009 Posted August 29, 2009 In my opinion... For the life of me I cant figure out why the mods allow one person (one that contributes no value) to run his mouth and obviously upset some of the guides and other regulars to the point that they stop posting fishing reports, and some even walk away from the board. Phil posted a short blurb about this person being on one of the earlier forums? And seems to be ok with him? Maybe if let the rest of us in on the inside joke it wouldnt be so bad, and we would understand the situation? Just doesnt make sense to let one person destroy a great thing that took a long time to build.

"Contributes no value" ? oh come now..... nothing has been "destroyed", all the fish are still in the lake, and healthy as ever.

If we all got along, and never argued, this forum would be pretty boring if you ask me. I say let any point of view in, even if it may seem ridiculous or even offensive to most of us. Just my opinion. Heck, a good part of the reason I log on to this forum every single day, is to participate in the many knock down drag outs that occur on this site. I think its fun. Just me though. I don't feel the need to ignore anyone on here. Probably 95% of the questions I ask are met with at least a few thoughtful, and helpful answers, and that seems to be widespread throughout the forum. I don't see a problem.
mclothier1 Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 Well for me it is interesting too, and I have no use for the ignore button. But... what I mean by destroying... Meaning if it upsets guides to the point they want to walk away or stop posting reports. Is that REALLY what we want? The person causing all the trouble is nothing more than a troll. While it may be entertaining... I would rather have boring, and keep the reports. There is nothing wrong with differing opinions, it makes people see that there are several sides to a story, but a troll isnt about all that, his only intent is to upset people and goad them into arguements. If this was my site I wouldnt allow it, but its not... so I will live with it like everyone else.
