dwiebenga Posted October 12, 2009 Posted October 12, 2009 Fortunately, the Weather service is predicting only "showers" for Tues-Thurs. It is only a 50% chance. Who knows. We just need stable weather to get the fishing going again, right?
Wayne SW/MO Posted October 12, 2009 Posted October 12, 2009 Fortunately, the Weather service is predicting only "showers" for Tues-Thurs. It is only a 50% chance. Who knows. We just need stable weather to get the fishing going again, right? They are predicting 80% chance in the watershed for Tuesday and 40-60% Wednesday and Wednesday night. Of course rain isn't the worry, its the volume. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted October 12, 2009 Author Root Admin Posted October 12, 2009 I'm no weatherman but I watch it pretty close. No major fronts so I would think "rain" would be like "drizzle". Hopeful.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted October 12, 2009 Author Root Admin Posted October 12, 2009 The lake has crested below what they thought. This time I'm glad they were wrong. My contact said COE would run gates will the lake was back down to 917. Keep an eye on the level and you could pretty much predict when that might be. They can drop it 6-8 inches a day with gates open.
Members Trolling 4 Walleye Posted October 15, 2009 Members Posted October 15, 2009 I was thinking of coming down to fish Saturday and Sunday.. is the lake safe to go out on? and would there be much of a chance of catching anything?
techo Posted October 15, 2009 Posted October 15, 2009 In my opinion......yes and yes. My favorite time fishing was when the lake flooded in the spring. I hate what it did to the businesses and campgrounds, but fishing was awesome. When the water was going up....the fish stayed high in the bushes, when the water goes down, they seemed to move to the old shoreline. If you find rocks, stumps or the regular places tha fish like to hang about five or ten feet deeper than the old shoreline, then the bigger fish seemed to be there. I am of course talking about bass though, and I know you like walleye. Hopefully someone smarter will chime in on walleye. Tim Carpenter
Spinnaker Posted October 15, 2009 Posted October 15, 2009 Because of the rise in the water level from the rain and runoff, do you think the lake temperature will cool off more quickly? Obviously, the cloudy weather has reduced the warming affect of the sun. But I am thinking about a trip down the first week of Nov. and wondering if the fish will be especially active at that time.
Members fishofexcellence Posted October 17, 2009 Members Posted October 17, 2009 Im down here at Holiday Island. Water was about 3 ft below Beaver town bridge yesterday. Holiday Island Launch was blocked by logs . Water seems to going back down now. Lookes like we got lucky. No fun fishing when you live close to 2 launch sites but have to go to missouri to put your boat in water to fish in Arkansas. Here is a pic of Beaver bridge last year if it comes through.
gitnby Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 If the Corps continues it's current rate of draw, the level should be down to 917 by Saturday or Sunday, which is about where it was before the monsoon.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted October 20, 2009 Author Root Admin Posted October 20, 2009 That's great news. But take in account that the gates were just closed yesterday so the decent may not be as fast as it has been. Throw in any water coming in from Beaver and take away the lack of flow from other sources and hopefully the level will be down close to power pool within a couple of weeks.
