Don Allenbaugh Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 The AGFC purchased some golden/palomino rainbow trout from a private hatchery in West Virginia and have stocked them in the White River between the State Park and The Buffalo confluence. This was a one time stocking and is in addition to the normal stocking in order to replace trout lost due to high water. Don A
Zack Hoyt Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 Do they fall under the same limit as bows or are they a "special" regulation? It would be great to have them as C&R only. They are a gorgeous fish. Zack Hoyt OAF Contributor Flies, Lies, and Other Diversions
eric1978 Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 They look like my favorite color flukes for stream smallies. They are pretty fish.
laker67 Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 I have fished for them in private waters and they become quite wary in a short period of time. It will interesting to see if they do the same in the white. I am not sure how large they grow, but I did see one from Pa that appeared to be close to 10 pounds. The largest I have caught is four pounds. They do not lack in fighting skills, so I think they are a good addition to the white.

Gavin Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 Their mutant rainbows not a true golden trout.....Bought the ugliest trout that swims IMO...Thankfully that ugly yellow coloration will ensure that they get fished out quickly...course the hoosiers down there will probably high bank em cuz they look sick and flabby ;>)! Waste of money IMO. Cheers.

mhall02 Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 I remember as a kid seeing those in the private trout hatchery in Spring River, up from Verona. Never saw one in the river or anywhere else.
Ham Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 They stick out like a sore thumb. I saw several in the Rim Shoals area. You can watch them swim to and fro. I also saw a Bald Eagle hit the water hard getting a fish. Put these two observances together and you get a need for repeat stockings of the mutants. I'd rather have more Brookies and Cutts. Brian Sloss Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 They have some of these "golden" trout in the hatchery at dam 3 on the spring river. Saw them about a month ago when I walked around the facility there looking at some of the trout they were raising. Never seen one in the river there, but I imagine they release them though. www.elevenpointflyfishing.com www.elevenpointcottages.com (417)270-2497
