Bman Posted November 29, 2009 Posted November 29, 2009 I perfer Jewel Football for dragging (1/2 and 5/8) and I like Eakins for pitching in shallow and around docks. I match them up with Chomper twin tails. Best of both worlds Jewel and Chomper! I will second that. The only good line is a tight line
Ham Posted November 29, 2009 Posted November 29, 2009 I've not bought a jig off the rack in a long time but I did see the link to the BassX site and they are awesome looking jigs ! But after shipping that's 5 bucks each "ouch" ! say what? If I rmember right it was 3 for 6 bucks on the spider jig and 2 for less than 5 on the FB jigs. If I decided to order, I'd order enough to offset shipping costs a tad. They do also offer a jighead only option which would allow a person to just make up the skirts they want without having to fool around with a mold and paints for around a buck each if I remember right. I don't know these guys at all and I'm good for a while, but those look nice at a decent price. I do make a few of my own flies/lures and I don't get any additional satisfaction from catching a fish on one of "mine". Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. techo Posted November 30, 2009 Posted November 30, 2009 I would enjoy catching a fish on my own hand-made jig if I had the time and talent. I usually eat on the run and mow the grass at night. I have very little time to make jigs. I would like to try to make a jig with a few more strands of red and maybe a red eye or a red spot on the head. It just seems like a little blood or injured bait makes a better target in nature for the strong. Of couse I could be wrong! Tim Carpenter

I just went to their site and clicked on the spider heads a pack of three 3/8oz 3/0 hooks were 5.99 and I checked out and shipping was 7.99 that's 13.98 for 3 jigs that's 4.66 ea. I see now you can order more for the same 7.99 and save on shipping ! Sorry
motoman Posted November 30, 2009 Posted November 30, 2009 .......... But after shipping that's 5 bucks each "ouch" ! I'm not beating these guys up on this, they have a great product I'm sure!! .................. - A bit off topic, but something that really bugs me. Some of these tackle companies are really dropping the ball here. What if I want to buy just a couple items they sell to try them out? Then I have to pay almost as much for shipping as the product!?!?!? NO thanks! - I'm not sure why some companies don't accomodate to smaller orders, by just putting a few stamps on a padded envelope, and hand them to the mail carrier. There have been TONS of companies over the years, where I would've liked to try their products; but due to high shipping costs, I just pass. I don't like the idea of having to order a bunch of a new product I've never tried, just to offset shipping costs. - Anywho, rant over, back to your regularly scheduled program. And I'm a jewel fan myself; but those Bass-x's are intriguing.....hhhhhhmmmmm

This is my end of year time and looking back this year I poured 7000 jigs. My hook orders were 4000 4/0 and 3000 3/0 and I did have some special orders for larger hooks too. I have 8 guides I sell to in Texas, Arkansas, and Alabama that I met on ebay years ago. These were not all skirted jigs a lot were shaky heads. I custom make all my wire keepers for the smallest worm to the largest. BTW this is not my job its something I love to do! I also have a full time job and family. Sorry I'm like mottoman this has got off topic a bit and I'm sorry, this is the last from me (off topic)..
abkeenan Posted December 1, 2009 Author Posted December 1, 2009 The bass x look great with a wide assortment of colors. The jewel and chomper both have the same EWG hook while the war eagle and bass x do not. You guys think the EWG is a better hook?
Ham Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 Not to split hairs. but I think the hook in the Jewel stuff is more O'Shaunessy(sic) than EWG. I prefer round bend j hooks, but I am making do with Jewel just fine. I prefer to NOT fish jigs with ewg's, but there will be 20 better jig fishermen than me that love ewg hooks I'm sure. KCRIVERRAT Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 Are you a lake fisherman primarily? I myself love the Chomper stand-up jighead in 1/8th and 1/4th for river fishing. KC Lake guys I see... forget my response then. HUMAN RELATIONS MANAGER @ OZARK FISHING EXPEDITIONS
