Ok so i am running low on jigs and am wondering which jig between the two brands i should stock up with this winter. Both are similar in price. The poll feature on this website isnt working (or it is an im an idiot which is also a possibilty) so i will just go with a quick format and you can respond with the A, B, C, D, E choice and a quick blurb about why/why not you do/dont prefer them.

A. Chompers Football Jig

B. Jewel Football Jig

C. Jewel Eakins Jig

D. Jewel Pro Spider

E. Other Brand

Which one do you have the most confidence in?

If you're looking to really stock up, and you're a big-time jig user, this may be a good time to look into pouring your own, that way you get exactly what you want and in the long run you save a fortune.

Are you a lake fisherman primarily? I myself love the Chomper stand-up jighead in 1/8th and 1/4th for river fishing.

I don't go for brand name jigs. I go for head design to fit the type of bottom where I'll be fishing. I fish 5 types of heads: football, ball, arke, banana, and posion tail.

I perfer Jewel Football for dragging (1/2 and 5/8) and I like Eakins for pitching in shallow and around docks. I match them up with Chomper twin tails. Best of both worlds Jewel and Chomper!

Of the group you listed, I prefer the Jewel FB jig for my lake fishing. Be aware that the hook is fine wire and will not hold up to flipping stick / jerk their head off hooksets. I'm still learning to back off on my hooksets.

+1 ;)

I prefer... C. Jewel Eakins Jig (roundhead) myself. 5/16 oz and 3/8 oz. I like them because they come through the rocks well and they just flat out catch fish!

I have done exactly what Eric said and started making my own. Whichever one you prefer... get a Do-it Mold, all of the parts, and start pouring. You'll save a TON of money, and you can make them virtually the exact specs as the big companies. I recommend BarlowsTackle.com for the parts... top of the line parts, great prices, and great service in my experience.

Good luck!

I have been using Bass-X jigs. They are made locally in Rogers and sold at hook Line and sinker. They're similar to eakins and others. They make a roundball and a football head. And I think they're coming out with a flippin jig. They have a website but I dont have the link. I'm by no means a pro or a great jig fisherman, but I like 'em. Just thought you guys might want to check 'them out.

I've been using War Eagle jigs exclusively for the past year ... both their football and heavy finesse jigs ... and have become very fond of them. Color selection is good and they have a heavy Mustad UltraPoint hook that you can count on.
