Wondering if anyone could maybe share their experience or preference on these two reels. My father and i bought the Quantum KVD baitcaster last year and they started having problems not too long afterwards. Looking at the BPS reviews on the KVD it seems i am not the only one who has had issues with it. Took Dad's reel back to BP before Xmas and got the return money back on the KVD and spent some more money to get the old man a Citica. My reel is actually at Table Rock (I live in STL) so i cant get it til i get down there to get it and return it, thus i have some time to get more opinions on the matter. So the Citica is 119.99 and the Curado is 179.99. So when i go back i am going to most likey get one of the two. Is the Curado worth the extra $60 over the Citica? Also heard that the Abu Garcia Revo SX are a pretty good reel also, anyone have anything to say about those?

The $60 isn't not a factor for me. The factor is the gears. I don't have any of the new Curados because I like the 6-1 gears of the Citica vs the 5-1 and 7-1 of the Curados. If I were using a lot of baits where I wanted a fast retrieve I'd buy the Curado or if I did a lot of crankbait fishing.

I have one of the new Curado 200E7s and I love it. For my money, they're just as good if not better than the old Chronarchs, plus they have a lower profile now and are super comfortable. Forget about the gear ratio thing. If you need to move a bait a little slower, then crank a little slower...the speed is there if you need it.

You can pick them up for less than $150 on ebay plus free shipping. The Curado is the best price-to-quality ratio reel you're going to find, period.

Citcas are just ok in my opinion. They throw nice but there is some slop in the spool, (side to side). Just kinda clunky. Curado is well worth the extra money top notch!

I've read on other forums that you can convert the Curado's to the Citica gears for $30 in parts. So I would not let the gear ratio be a show stopper.

I was all set to try the 200E7, but Santa wife gave me a Calais 200DC for Christmas. I fished it for a while yesterday here on Beaver Lake, and it's a very cool reel. But it's tough to get a good feel for it with the line guides icing up so quickly. Nasty day on the lake. Brrrr. Might still try a 200E7, but I'm afraid nothing is going to stack up compared to the DC! The wife might have opened an expensive can of worms there.

Oh, I also just bought a Revo SX. We were up north in Toledo for Christmas and the local Dick's had a 50% off on it. I was only mildly interested in trying one at normal prices as the Shimano's seem to get better reviews overall. But at half price on a brand new one? Gimme! Threw a rattle trap with it a few times yesterday, and it seemed fine. But be warned, you'll want to start with the backlash control on max, and a little extra reel tension. Then back it down from there as you get used to it. They have a rep of being easy to backlash on the lower magnet settings.

I've owned a Citica for 3 years now and it's "ok" (no problems with it). I have 3 of the Curados and I'll reach for it before the Citica. Casting is smoother, retrieve is smoother, feels better as it's not as big. My wife found them for me somewhere online last year for $135.00 - $150.00 plus shipping. I think it was on e-bay.

i haven't had any experience with the new citicas...but on the old one's...the B series...the bearings start to pop after a year or two.

shimano's warranty was always good...local store always exchanged them, but i saw a sign at the store sometime back where you had to have your receipt, that would be a pain. no chance i could keep a receipt that long.

for my money...i would definitely spend the extra and get the curado

That should help some...

Personally I own both the curado 200E7 and the Citica The reels are of the same size and both are equally smooth. I have found that the 7.1 speed in the curado, makes it really easy to overpower certain baits. I use it mainly for burning blades. The citica is more versatile with its 6.3 speed. I havn't really noticed any slop in the citicas spool, it casts like a dream and is silky smooth in its operation. Living up to the shimano name in my opinion. Personally I like the 6.3 speed and will be adding more citicas to my collection.

The choice is yours to make and only you can make that decision. I am a shimano guy and all of their reels are ok by me. I really would like to get my hands on a core and a calais though :P

Congrats on having a wife who knows enough about fishing to buy you a high-quality reel. I've been married a long time and if my wife ever bought me a reel (which she wouldn't) it'd probably be a Zebco made for little kids. A bright yellow one, most likely - she likes yellow.

On the other hand, she breads and cooks the best panfish filets I've ever tasted - so it all works out.

I have never used either of the ones your describing, but I have had the abu revo s reels and really like them. I also own a pflueger president, that is a couple of years old that I like very well. If I had a choice of the two, I would chose the revo over the pflueger. They cast a mile and are extremely hard to backlash. A plus to me!!! They are an entry level reel in the cost of $130, but are light weight and easy to handle. I bought three revos more after the 1st one and not had an issue with any of them. They are a middle range gear I think 6.4:1? and are very versatile.
