Mike Davis Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 I want to fish Crane Creek with Dano, Terry Beeson and duckydoty as a start. I also want to fish the "Driftless Area" in Wisconsin, the hexagenia hatch on the Brule River and then steelhead fishing with some buddies in Michigan. Mike I went to buy batteries but they weren't included. Steven Wright
Gavin Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 Hex fishing is fun....Make sure you have some big Robert's Drakes, and some Regan's Hex Spinners. Goals...not many...the youngest will be old enough to stay with the grannies for the weekend by this summer and my wife dearly loves to fish and camp on the river. Maybe get out 2-3 weekends with her this year. Other than that...hit some new water on the G. Nade and BB..Fish the NFoW a couple more times next year.
Mike Davis Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 I fished the hatch a couple years ago and did very well with a Sofa Pillow pattern. Mike I went to buy batteries but they weren't included. Steven Wright
grizwilson Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 My goal is to get my elbow well just so I can fish doc says it tennis elbow any body have any quick cures? First off be sure and wrap one of those velcro braces just below the elbow when grabbing suckers, even when it gets better, favoring the other does not help as it ends up in both elbows (you may have seen me around grabbing suckers with a brace on each arm) grabbing seems to be the toughest on elbows. Like Phil said the chiropractor is a great help, I used Chestnut Chiropractic, he was with the St. Louis Blues for several years and is really good on shoulders and elbows. In addition to Phil's suggestion of sitting on the other hand I suggest rubber pants so it will not show when you wet yourself. Cortozone shots are not the answer. As it gets better some exersizes will help prevent in the future, wringing out a towel both directions, streching your hands with fingers spread up and down. here is a link. No quick fixes but it does get better. http://www.hughston.com/hha/a.seven.htm g “If a cluttered desk is a sign, of a cluttered mind, of what then, is an empty desk a sign?”- Albert Einstein
grizwilson Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 My goal is to fish more and more often. A bad day fishing is better than a good day working. And maybe float at least 70 miles on the Buffalo. “If a cluttered desk is a sign, of a cluttered mind, of what then, is an empty desk a sign?”- Albert Einstein
fishgypsy Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 Mine big goal is not necessarily to fish more, though I'd welcome that option. But to fish harder, to make the most of the time I have fishing, to work harder for fish, and hopefully get a couple REALLY memorable fish this season. I'd also like to build a couple new rods, and finally figure out a way to keep my fly tying materials and fly-boxes organized. Some new gear- waders, wading boots, fishing vets, flyboxes, perhaps even a new reel and some lines, all seem like they're in order. As for travel- I'm thinking another trip out west- Wyoming, Idaho, or northern Montana. I STILL want to get to Miami and fish the canals for peacock bass, baby tarpon and snook. Michigan and the driftless region sound tempting, too. Hope everyone has a great New Year, I'll see you guys in 2010. fishinwrench Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 Ha, ha. I was quoting a real guy from the forum last year. I couldn't remember who started the topic on 2009 goals, so I wasn't able to give him credit. I've heard of a boy named Sue. Guess there could be a guy named Donna. Ok, I'm back on track now. Sorry. I haven't decided on any fishing goals, but I'm doing some things to improve my health and fitness (like dropping 15-20 lbs. and cutting back on the smokes)which should inhance my fishing performance. and I'm sure looking forward to Spring.
Gatorjet Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 To be able to get to Truman, LoO, or Mark Twain during the Crappie Spawn this year! Missed it the last several years due to work. Real men go propless!
Kayser Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 Build an 8 weight. Catch a Muskie. Catch a Walleye. Catch a smallie on a flyrod. Catch more flatheads. Beat my best trout- 21"+ Of course, I need the weather to cooperate this year. Had the time last year, but all the rivers and lakes were too high and muddy to fish. Rob WARNING!! Comments to be interpreted at own risk. Time spent fishing is never wasted.
Al Agnew Posted January 3, 2010 Posted January 3, 2010 More time on the water and more rivers fished. The last few years I've gotten away from exploring new streams. I used to go on at least one Ozarks road trip a year...spend a week traveling throughout portions of the Ozarks where I hadn't been too many times, fishing a new stream every day. But I haven't done that for quite a while. So, the concrete goal is to do at least one Ozark road trip, and hopefully one road trip outside the Ozarks. I did a Tennessee/Kentucky road trip a few years ago and fished several streams in those two states. But I've always wanted to do an Iowa/southern Minnesota road trip. There are three rivers in eastern Iowa that have good smallie fishing, and a couple in Minnesota south of Minneapolis. If I made it a two week trip, I'd come back down through Wisconsin and fish several western Wisconsin streams as well. Or maybe a Ouachita Mountain road trip, fish the Caddo, Ouachita, Glover, Mountain Fork... My lifetime goal is to fish at least one river in all 50 states. I've got 28 of them out of the way already, including the two that are farthest away...Alaska and Hawaii. Shouldn't be too hard. Only problem is finding a river to fish in places like Kansas and Rhode Island. Another lifetime goal is to float every floatable river in the Ozarks. I don't really have too many left to do. Several in SW MO, some in Arkansas, and the few good ones in Oklahoma. States where I've fished a river... California Oregon Washington Idaho Arizona New Mexico Colorado Wyoming Montana Minnesota Iowa Missouri Arkansas Wisconsin Illinois Kentucky Tennessee Florida South Carolina Virginia West Virginia Pennsylvania New Jersey New York Michigan Maine Alaska Hawaii Major Ozark streams I haven't floated... Spring River (SW MO) Center Creek Elk River Big Sugar Creek Indian Creek Flat Creek Finley River Bull Creek Moreau River (both forks) Osage River Pomme de Terre River War Eagle Creek Mulberry River Big Piney Creek (AR) Forks of the Little Red River South Fork Spring River Strawberry River So I hope to check some of them off the list this year!
