fishgypsy Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 Pat I'll leave south county to you and Sherwood. How about Creve Coeur Lake? I've taken my pond prowler out there twice and didn't catch squat. I've lived near it all my life and heard "stories", but that's it, "stories" BTW I was bass fishing. SIO3, coming to a subdivision pond near you and there are no fish at Busch. If you're into it, Creve Couer's a good place to catch gar on a flyrod. Has anyone ever tried Marias Temps Clair out toward West Alton? I've seen it on the maps but have never heard anything about it. As for the subdivisions, I suppose I'll have to start doing some scouting : ) "I hope that someday we will be able to put away our fears and prejudices and just laugh at people." - Jack Handy www.fishgypsy.wordpress.com

Chief Grey Bear Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 What is the deal with not being able to use your own craft, canoe, small jon, or scamp, on the ponds as Busch? My mistake eric, I thought you and OTF went to Bennett a couple of times. I've seen it on the maps but have never heard anything about it. As for the subdivisions, I suppose I'll have to start doing some scouting : ) I use to bow fish out there. Lots of carp and some gar. There are some big ponds below Alton Lock and Dam. Some fun fishing below the Lock and Dam on the river too. Sauger, walleye, and whites. Good place for spoonbill. Late March the buffalo will stack right below the dam next to the bank. They can be fun. The asian carp are thick in there too. Try catching them on an ultra light with just a small jig. Smokin Hot! Dardeen Creek is another place I spent a lot of time growing up. Use to catch everything in there from bass to carp. A Little Rain Won't Hurt Them Fish.....They're Already Wet!! Visit my website at.. fishgypsy Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 What is the deal with not being able to use your own craft, canoe, small jon, or scamp, on the ponds as Busch? I think they're worried about introducing zebra mussels into the lakes. eric1978 Posted February 4, 2010 Author Posted February 4, 2010 What is the deal with not being able to use your own craft, canoe, small jon, or scamp, on the ponds as Busch? I have no idea, but I don't like it. They have jonboats out on a number of the lakes, and you can rent them for $5. I'd much rather just take out my solo. I don't see what harm a canoe would do. I've never been able to get an explanation, other than you just can't. Dardeen Creek is another place I spent a lot of time growing up. Use to catch everything in there from bass to carp. I always wondered about Dardenne Creek (that's how I've seen it spelled...are we talking about the same creek?...meanders north and joins the Missouri north of I-70?) A stretch of it is basically across the street from my house, and I've thought about wading it a little in the summer just to play around. I'd say I'm a good 15-20 miles upstream from the Missouri, and I'm guessing there are some bass in there (probably nothing giant). It's usually pretty murky, but during low water it gets kinda neat looking and just screams largemouth.
patfish Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 It IS legal to take a plastic sled out on the lakes there....

snagged in outlet 3 Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 2 to 3 years ago there was massive fish kill on Dardenne near hwy K. That sewage plant dumped something in there and the fish were killed for miles downstream. They had pictures in a local paper around here and there were 1000's of dead fish piled up. Don't know if it's recovered, but I've often thought of fishing it, except it has high, steep, muddy banks. Judging by the dead fish photos it was loaded with fish. I just don't know where to fish it. Where did you fish Dardenne Ducky? I've caught carp at Creve Couer but no luck with bass. SIO3
stlfisher Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 I think you can access Dardenne creek at Busch although that is very near the Hwy K fish kill.I hadn't heard about the fish kill. A few write ups I have seen on Creve Ceour indicate it is not a good lake for bass, but i have never fished it. I imagine Busch doesn't allow personal watercraft simply because of the increased pressure it would bring. I imagine with the proximity to the highschool it could create problems. If they allowed kayaks and such I think you would see an increase in traffic from pleasure boaters and Busch has plenty of traffic as is. At least now you have to jump through a few hoops to rent the boats. There are some small ponds that I would love to explore with a Kayak or Canoe though. It is shame the some of the fishy looking spots in the smaller bodies of water are pretty much not acessible. I say they bring back the daily tag type thing at bush and make people pay a few bucks to fish. It might thin out the crowd a little. I would like to see them make more of the lakes C/R as well. I do like the fact they have drained, deepended, and added structure to many of the lakes. It seems like they do 1 or 2 each year. Those lakes fish better than some of the older ones.
