Bill Babler Posted May 14, 2010 Posted May 14, 2010 What is the fastest you or you and your partner has ever caught a limit in a derby? Example in 2003 Tim Sainato and I caught 5 Keepers in under a minute on our first stop in a Heartland derby on Table Rock. We were fishing a pocket near Campbell Point and they were just stacked in there post spawn. At that time we were putting two hooks on a drop shot most of the time. Not so much to catch multiples, but to fish two different depths, and to also stablize the rig from spinning. When the boat settled to a stop, Tim and I both fishing off the front hooked doubles on the drop shots, while the baits were still falling. The fish just swarmed the baits, worming like crazy. We had 4 keeper K's flopping in the bottom of the boat. I told Tim to drop the other rig on the bow, and I would unhook and livewell the fish. No need to measure as they were 17 inchers. Before I could get the second fish unhooked, he swung our 5th keeper in the boat on top of the 3 others flopping on the boat floor. Have not even come close since. Just one of those magic moments. Let's hear some of yours, just for fun, derby fishing or not. http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
denjac Posted May 14, 2010 Posted May 14, 2010 About an hour is the fastest I have put together a limit in a tournamnet. I did one time have one keeper first thing in the morning and didnt get my other 4 until 2:00. Those 4 came in about 10 minutes. Dennis Boothe Joplin Mo. dtrs5kprs Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 Have seen a couple of those, but seems like they are never mine. Did have a nice late kicker at Smithville about 10 years ago. Stuck one around 4# with minutes to go, through it in the box and started weaving thru trees back to W. Threw them in a sack for weigh in and she still had pieces of spinnerbait skirt sticking out of her mouth/teeth. Looked fierce thru the plastic bag. Would have looked better with about 2 more just like her, but sadly... Had some good spots found in the back of Little Indian in Nov 2002. First year I really learned to deep fish. Could put a limit or 2 in the boat with a spoon in an hour or so every morning if you got there first and early. Would go out, then be back to take the family to Branson for play day by 930 or so. Those fish stayed there and in Trace Hollow for a couple of months.
arsenal1477 Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 my father and i were not fishing a derby but the last sat night before we came home to stl on a trip last year we each caught 5 keepers in a 30 minute span. we were keeping those fish that year for a fish fry. when we got in to the dock we weighed them all and had about 50lbs of fish, 5lb avg. amazingly stupid thing was they were caught on the point in aunts creek where little aunts and big aunts meet, in the middle of a torrential down pour, at 11:30 at night and on salt craws no less. essentialy, we each made about 5-7 casts. my dad had a 6.5 LM and i had a 5.11 SM to boot.
Bill Babler Posted May 15, 2010 Author Posted May 15, 2010 Pretty brave or dumb one, coming on here talking about cutting the sides out of trophy Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass on this lake, and on this forum. No there ain't plenty of that kind. Next time you get a hankeren to kill fish like that just let us know, we'll buy you all you want for your fish boil. Have not seen anything like that, since the 1960's I thought we were past that stage, as far as evolution. My day is completely ruined and it is before 7 AM. http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com

Surely you are just yanking our chain? If its true you knew by posting this you would stir up a hornets nest. Yes you were in your legal rights to take those fish, but why? Thats a shame and shame on you. Dennis Boothe Joplin Mo. Champ188 Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 Amen to that, Bro. Bill. If the caveman isn't lying, and I suspect he is, maybe Phil will give him a nice discount on a set of those bright orange Ozark Anglers decals. What kind of boat are you running there arsenal1477?
magicwormman Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 I'm new to this site, but have been very impressed with the posts from various members. The majority of the members appear to be great fisherman and good quality people willing to share their experiences. The post on cutting up 50 lbs of Bass is very troubling. The lake is starting to come back after the fish kill of 99, but has a long way to go, and with people filleting 5lb LM & SM makes absolutely no sense to me. There are plenty of whitebass, rockbass, crappie, and gills for a fish fry. If you must eat a bass, the 15 inch kentuckys are much better eating than big bass. If you get the urge to fillet a trophy bass, give me a call, and I will deliver panfish fillets to your front door.
denjac Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 Amen to that, Bro. Bill. If the caveman isn't lying, and I suspect he is, Now I bet the Geico caveman is mad again! Dennis Boothe Joplin Mo. Champ188 Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 This isn't "spot on" the original topic but close. First round of the Central Pro-Am championship last fall on Bull Shoals, I had located some quality SM's within sight of takeoff. Having a low boat number, I was able to get on them within 30 seconds of putting my boat on plane. Had two 3-pound-class SM before the 40-boat field had all departed. Coming in that afternoon, my partner and I had 7 minutes to spare. I stopped on the spot again, and on our last cast with 3 minutes left, partner caught a 4-pound brown fish. I netted it for him, pretty much pushed him down into the passenger seat and he arrived at the check-in boat with the big "jaw" in his lap.
