Members jmarco21 Posted May 16, 2010 Members Posted May 16, 2010 I got in the water down at the end of the hatcheries to the right of the bluff in zone two at about 1:30 pm on Friday. I caught 3 nice rainbows: 13", 14" and a 15" in about a hour, one on yellow rubber legged jig and then two on a yellow and black weightless maribou jig with a heavy split shot to sink it to the bottom. There were several people to each side of me and none of them had much luck. The stream was pretty high and from the view outside the car window I could tell there were some muddy spots in some areas.
snagged in outlet 3 Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 I believe the rubber legs are illegal in Zone 2 SIO3
Members jmarco21 Posted May 17, 2010 Members Posted May 17, 2010 I believe the rubber legs are illegal in Zone 2 SIO3 Interesting, have a MO Conservation Dept source for that or just a hunch (heard through the grapevine, etc...)? Otherwise I will just double check next time I am down there since I like to play by the rules. It's made of fly material and is single hook so I figured it was good to go but didn't check specifically for that pattern. It was tied on the line from last year, didn't feel like changing it, seemed legit at the time.
eric1978 Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 I dont' think the rubber legs qualify the fly as a "soft plastic" bait. Could be wrong, but I doubt it.

I bought it in the fly shop at the top of Montauk park last year. They were sold along side all the regular flies. I have seen plenty of other insect looking flies with rubber legs attached. I think it's legal and like you said not a soft plastic classification.

I don't believe that rubber is considered the same as soft plastic. I use foam hoppers on occasion that have rubber legs all constructed on a single point hook with a dropper!!! Might be a gray area but I don't believe that I am not within the spirit of the law. fishinwrench Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 Rubber legged "flys" are perfectly legal in Z1 and Z2 Beetles, hoppers (even foam bodied flys) with rubber legs, ect. are fine. Even in the nitpickin' trout park. Just hold it up before you tie it on, so the dude behind the monitor can see it
FlyFishinFool Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 I asked in the BSSP park store if rubber legs were legal in Z-1 or Z-2, and they said as long as the rest of the fly was legal, then the rubber legs did not change whether the fly was legal or not. However, I would like to get the answer from the new Conservation Agent working at BSSP - after all, he is the one who will make the decision if you get a ticket or not! * ´¯`•.¸¸.•´¯`•.¸ ><((((((º> `•.¸¸.•´¯`•.¸¸.•´¯`•.¸ ><((((º> .¸¸.•´¯`•.¸ ><((((((º> I look in my fly box and think about what should guide my choice of the best fly: the amount/angle of sun on the water, the water temp & clarity, what bugs are hatching, what the fish might be eating, and what worked last time.
