Pssst, fighting terrorism is not what is bankrupting our country, it is our elected officials(both parties) who are overspending OUR money.

BTW, no matter what we do, terrorist nations will always want us destroyed because we are infidels. I would rather a select few(who volunteer) to take the fight to them rather than the fight be brought to us. I too wish no one had to die in wars but sadly far too many people in this world cannot vent their grievances without bloodshed.

When the rich wage war, it's the poor who die.

If you are an Ozzy fan, listen to the song Black Rain. It kicks butt and passes along your sentiment with this post.

I avoid political discussions as I think it is a personal thing that does not get discussed amongst friends as it can cause an irreparable rift between them.

I think there is a law of physics that says if an internet forum topic goes on long enough it will eventually turn to politics.

War is good for the economy, look at all of the new military contracts. As an added bonus, research and development of new weapons and equipment. Revamping of all of the National Guard Armories. Replacement parts for equipment lost or wore out in battle. Money flowing into the public sector is good business.

I think the topic came up when we were discussing long threads and I mentioned one on Sarah Palin a few years back, then the dogpile started. I think this thread should have been, "Why are some members afraid to say anything on OAF".

If it would stop raining I could go fishing and stop posting here

I have heard many economists say that it is WWII that pulled us out of the depression. Not that I would recommend another WW to end this recession, would not even think about it.

War is good for the economy...

The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are being fought with money borrowed from China, the sum total of which is WAY more than the stimulus package, but I didn't see any Tea Parties protesting over that fact. Hypocrisy. And as for military contracts, Halliburton and Blackwater got most of them because of you-know-who and you-know-who, and the CEOs of those companies just stockpile their millions in off-shore accounts or buy up real estate. That's not good for the economy either. You must be thinking of WWII when we still had factories in our country, and every American had a job making some product that contributed to the war effort. Those days are long gone, unfortunately.

Also helps out the Funeral Homes and Cemetaries.

Lets not forget the once physically fit who now depend on someone else to help them get dressed and wipe their asses after going to the bathroom. And with that goes the government spending money on all their health care that some of you people are so dead set against... Government in Health Care.

Yep. War is good for everyone unless you are the one having to fight it.

This war is good for China's economy, no doubt. But it seems like very few are reaping the benefits stateside. And I'd argue fueling economic growth through the death of soldiers and civilians is never good business.

I think you're at least a little right, though- when my buddy went to Iraq it wasn't Uncle Sam supplying his body armor (gov't issue was apparently a joke), some friends and I went in on it together. Someone is making a pile of money (my guess is stashed in an offshore bank account), off military equipment that doesn't actually meet the needs of the soldiers fighting these wars.
