I read the link that Ann posted OB, and while I found it interesting, it lacked evidence to change my mind at this point. For one thing it doesn't quantify the sample, what's the overall population?

What about the other fishing tackle? I assume the only way around that is a ban on fishing tackle period.

Then there's the fact that only two, that show up on the worldwide net so far, about anything close to providing support. That also means accepting the wildly exaggerated figures from the biological diversity site. At least they sound exaggerated to me, 800 million pounds of lead fishing tackle lost every year???????

Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

Where could they possibly even come up with a number like that ?

Sounds like something derived by adding up all the fudged insurance claims prepared by bait shop owners that got hit by floods, tornado's, earthquakes and Hurricanes.

They have to be going by the numbers of what has been sold and had taxes paid on it. Most of which is NOT lost in the earth....it is holding down the floors of all of our garages and storage sheds.

I'm 71 Chief, what do you want to bet I've drank from lead pipes? I'm not saying lead isn't harmful, I know it is. My problem is that there doesn't seem to be any serious link between lead fishing tackle and extraordinary losses.

Now I can agree with your presentation here. But on the flip side, why wait until it becomes a huge problem. If we can nip it in the bud slowly and incrementaly now, it won't come a huge shock later.

You used to be a putz, but you've cleaned your act up Chief. Nicely done.

You know it is bad when Trav's name gets dragged into this without even writing an "essay".

I was in Cabela's today and surprisingly enough, nothing to be found regarding the lead issue in the store. And I was all over the fishing dept. They did have some Hornady Critical Defense loads in 45 acp finally. We have not been able to get them at the shop yet, too high of a demand.

Why do you suppose that is ?

Since their intro last year, they have been the hottest defense round out there for personal defense. 45 was the last to be released and I think it came out in May this year. Special designed bullet cavity that performs after puncturing clothing, controlled expansion, low flash, etc. It has the polymer forcing cone in the hollow point to make it expand like the big game bullet leverevolution ammo but still protects the integrity of the bullet. Its a Black Talon on steroids.
