Stockton Lake Guide Service Posted September 5, 2010 Posted September 5, 2010 Well I have seen the light, Moving out of the house tomorrow, tearing it down so nature can have it back. Guess I'll sleep under a tree and when I wake in the morning I'll walk around the other side and take a crap, unless of course one of you come up with some more interesting scientific research that proves that it's bad for the environment. For the love of pete you people that have all this time for "Research". After working 10 or 12 hours coming home to take care of house work (Yes I still use a gasoline powered lawnmower) I have niether the time or the desire to read what yet another stuffy, arogant beurocrat who thinks being human is bad has to say. I'm guesing the ones on here with all the stats are probably in college or just recently graduated. Your sick and tired of me, well I'm sick and tired of being told my pickup is bad for the environment, drilling for oil is bad,Hell I can't even use a decent lightbulb after I forget 2012? Thank you Mr. Bush. You want to talk about how bad this stuff is then I suggest start practicing what you preach. Quit using lead weights. stop driving your cars, and go live under a tree. While we're at it I guess we all better start running around naked, It takes diesel to run those tractors for cotton, and we all know how bad that is for mother earth, and we sure wouldn't want to harm one of her creatures. Better shut your computer down too, we're burning that nasty old coal to run those power plants. Every time I hear some meely mouthed snot telling me my lifestyle isn't what they think it should be makes me want to go out and pour a quart of oil around a tree or something. LOL, now your talking Bill. I forgot about the lightbulb law. Luckily when i built my garage i put in the new t12 or whatever they are. And your lifestyle is probably about the same as everyone else's on here. I still run a 2 cycle 225. Think of the problems that is causing!! gotmuddy Posted September 5, 2010 Posted September 5, 2010 Good thing you can make unleaded bullets, hey. Anyone want to venture a guess as to the world's largest lead producer? HINT: it rhymes with "China." As for tungsten...well, there's nothing I can think of that rhymes with Australia. There's one I'd rather buy from than the other, can you guess which one? Because lead is a poison. UH GAIN...if poison is bad, and lead is a poison, wouldn't it be logical to conclude that lead is bad, and that perhaps dumping tons of it into the nation's streams isn't a wise thing to do, even if we really, really enjoy doing it? Why is lead a special case? My previous question is still hanging out there, waiting to be answered... According to the small amount of research I did on google, China is the largest tungsten producer in the world(which was posted earlier in this thread). I like how you phrase things like "tons". Very precise. You make it sound like every year there are tons of weights tossed into a single body of water which is of course absurd. BTW, "unleaded" bullets are outlawed because they are considered armor piercing, except for copper which is astronomically more expensive than lead and does not shoot nearly as good. everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.
Members VIP Posted September 5, 2010 Members Posted September 5, 2010 This is almost as good as the "Respecting the fish" thread. I am off to buy more lead spinnerbaits now. Lost two of them yesterday. Don't eat any fish from LOZ around the 5-8mm.
Quillback Posted September 5, 2010 Posted September 5, 2010 After all this, and I appreciate the anti-lead arguments, I will still be using lead. I do use tungsten for t-rig weights, because it's more dense and makes for a smaller weight. If someday, jig and spinnerbait manufacturers offer tungsten lures and they are priced similarly to lead ones, I'll buy them. But I do not see enough of an impact on the environment to support a ban on the use of lead in fishing tackle.

He was one of the least environmentally friendly Presidents according to his opponents. He opened up alot of areas for mining and drilling, he loosened the endangered species act, and I think he weakened the powers of the EPA. BTW, I think there are groups out there that are trying to keep you from taking a crap outside, it is pollution also. Anyhow, I don't know what everyone is getting riled up about, it is a non issue from what I see. Just because Cabela's sends out a blast email to all of the customers to respond to an EPA site with their opinions. No laws or restrictions have been put in place. It is only a consideration. Now if you want to get riled about something, how about less government intervention on our lives based upon findings by little fringe groups like the Center for Biological Diversity. Amish Bill Posted September 5, 2010 Posted September 5, 2010 Thank you Mr. Bush= SARCASM...By the way I still like him a lot more than what we got now.Yup your right he was considersd environmentaly unfriendly...but by who? green peace, sierra club, that great group called PETA, and lets not forget those I know whats best for you liberal types. Obama is probably working up a sorry speach for mother nature right now. I believe a few weeks ago EPA announced that carbon dioxide was a harmful gas, had to think really hard but I believe my 4th grade science teacher tought thats what we humans blow out after every breath. What are we going to do? "Life's too short to fish with a dead minner..."
ness Posted September 5, 2010 Posted September 5, 2010 Another train wreck, and not surprisingly some of the same passengers as always. Eric, it's clear you fancy yourself a pretty bright guy. As such, you should surely know religion is a topic that is best avoided. For people far-less capable than you, Phil has even spelled it out -- stay away from religion (and politics). Oh, I know you're gonna say you didn't start it, and you didn't, but you made it an issue with your backhanded response. You're increasingly over the top with your comments and there are too many personal digs. And that makes this place less useful and less fun. You'd be much more effective in making your points, and a much better ambassador for the causes you believe in, if you dialed it back a little. Smart guy like you oughta be able to figure that out. For the rest of youse guys -- let's leave the religion and politics out, then things won't get to the point somebody gets pist. John
Outside Bend Posted September 5, 2010 Posted September 5, 2010 You guys are right, I stand corrected- China does produce the most tungsten. But China also produces the most lead, so I think it's a moot point. Pure tungsten is considered non-toxic, some tungsten compounds (tungsten oxides, tungsten sulfides, etc) are toxic- that's what the Army was having trouble with. you put that it is a fact that 20% of the birds die from lead poisoning from fishing tackle. Did you mean to put that? I believe the correct statement would be that 20% of loons died from lead and this appeared to be from lead shot, not fishing tackle The report I cited specifically states more than 20% of the loons died due to ingesting lead fishing tackle. Even if that weren't true, again, what's the difference between a piece of lead gunshot and a similarly-sized lead split shot? Is a loon, or any other bird, somehow capable of ingesting one but not the other? Thanks Quillback, for at least tangentially answering my question. I'm guessing no one else has an answer, hence the deflecting about lightbulbs, bureaucrats, nasty liberals, environmental fascists, and all the rest. Guys- have a great holiday weekend. Seriously. <{{{><

For the rest of youse guys -- let's leave the religion and politics out, then things won't get to the point somebody gets pist. Why do you seem to have a personal vendetta with me ness? You always single me out. This topic is implicitly political, and there's no way to hammer out a debate about it without mentioning political factors. So since you've elected yourself moderater while Phil is gone, maybe you should scold whoever posted this topic in the first place. Sorry if you think my responses are "backhanded," but that's how I talk. I say what I think, and I'm not going to stop before I click "Add Reply" to wonder what ness will think of it, because frankly, I don't care. I don't want to get Phil angry, but again, and like you even admitted, I didn't start it, so get off my back. My tone in this thread pales in comparison to the overt nastiness and closed-mindedness we've seen from a few others, and you don't seem to be bothered by them, so I guess you just don't agree with my opinion or you have a problem with me personally.
ness Posted September 5, 2010 Posted September 5, 2010 Nice -- just what I expected: denial, finger pointing, name calling. Everybody's got a right to an opinion, but there's places you shouldn't go. You take pride in saying what you think, but you could be a little more diplomatic and less controversial and make your point better. It's just tiresome seeing you flogging every topic, preaching the gospel according to Eric, getting yourself into a corner and then name calling your way out. The forum could be better. Now come on with your next attack and prove you've missed the point. John
