What Is Your Favorite Fishing Season?

Every season brings benifits. As a Bass man Spring is my fave, however during Summer, Fall and Winter I will target other species. You can't beat Winter trout, Fall walleye, and Summer cats!

I fish year round, but I'm not real big on Winter fishing for bass. I'll concentrate on trout once the water gets really cold (~40') until the water warms up to around 45'.

The heat is too much for me. I sweat in the winter while fishing, so do the math on summer. I have lost 30 pounds this summer to the heat. I didn't fish much this summer due to not being able to find moving water to escape the heat up here, but I am picking that up this fall with outings as often as I can.

I prefer summer by far, I live to catch smallmouth on topwater.

All of the Ozark seasons have a place for me.

#1 Winter= Trout parks and White Ribbon fishing. I absolutely love this time of year. The colder the better. Chasing wild trout on unknown waters is the best. On the odd warm days the bass really turn on.

#2 Summer= The best and most awesome time of the year for big hungry largemouth and smallmouth on the creeks and rivers. And the occasional trout.

#3 Spring= Bass on the feed bag after the normal Ozark winter. And a few trout here and there.

#4 Fall= Never really do very good on the creeks and rivers for bass this time of year. I am usually looking forward to catching Trout.( see a pattern here )

Basically what Chief said. All seasons are very good around here. And I seldom have a bad day on any water that I have access to.

Middle of May to middle of July was always my favorite time. Last two weeks of May usually meant the best Bass fishing and still pretty good crappie fishing but the best was the Bluegill spawn in the strip mines in southern Illinois around Millstadt, Bellevile etc. Before these properties were sold for development a #10 Tom Nixon Black Gnat Plain wet fly and bedding bluegill quite often equaled lot of up to 12" slabs. Then Memorial Day meant the opening of Smallmouth season fishing the Big Piney, Castor rivers and Marble Creek then the third week of June was off to Nortwest Ontario for Smallmouth Walleye and Northern Pike and then back to the Big Piney and the Illinois strip mines. I had 7 weeks vacation and usually took 4 to 5 weeks between Memorial Day and the Fourth of July. Usually Sept and October were also good for Largemouth Bass. Before I retired in 1997 the strip mines I fished had been developed NO FISHING signs went up so I bought a lot at Lake Sherwood in St Charles count and if any thing Crappie and Bluegill fishing was even better. I wonder if the fishing there is still as good. After moving to central Arkansas I spent a lot more time fishing in the winter and even after I moved back to MO I find I fish a lot more in the cooler months except when there is #@%$*&^ snow on the ground.

Yes I did say 7 weeks vacation, I worked for UPS.
