Terry Beeson Posted October 16, 2010 Posted October 16, 2010 I just bought my first Dutch Oven and now have it seasoned, but have not cooked anything yet. I do have another older "bean pot" dutch oven (no place for coals on the lid) and have used that for fish fries, beans, etc. Now I want to start using both of them... And I'm sure I'll add more to the collection as I go. So, any of you "obsessed" with dutch oven cooking? Anyone know of any DOGs coming up? Anyone a member of IDOC? Anyone want to get together and have a cookout? Any tips? Any recipes? fishinwrench Posted October 16, 2010 Posted October 16, 2010 I love DO cooking. My g/f has perfected blackberry cobbler, cornbread, and pot-pie, but we still can't pull off decent biscuits.
Flysmallie Posted October 16, 2010 Posted October 16, 2010 I've had one for years but all I ever do is cobbler and biscuits. Wrench, I'll show you how to do some biscuits on Saturday. It's super easy.
eric1978 Posted October 17, 2010 Posted October 17, 2010 I thought a Dutch oven was when you farted in bed and pulled the covers over your wife's head...what are you guys talking about???
Outside Bend Posted October 17, 2010 Posted October 17, 2010 I thought a Dutch oven was when you farted in bed and pulled the covers over your wife's head...what are you guys talking about??? It is. That's what has the Pilsbury Boy all excited. <{{{><

rps Posted October 17, 2010 Posted October 17, 2010 Dutch ovens are the ultimate cooking device. Bread, biscuits, cobbler. chili, stew, dumplings and soups. Say what kind of recipes you want and we all will forward.
Terry Beeson Posted October 17, 2010 Author Posted October 17, 2010 ...Say what kind of recipes you want and we all will forward. OK... that's going to be another thread. Maybe Phil will even make a DO section... Now, who's up for a DOG? Going for an apple cobbler tomorrow... Gavin Posted October 17, 2010 Posted October 17, 2010 Do a bit of dutch oven cooking....the one I tote is pretty well seasoned..probably 30-40 years worth of good meals in it. Got it as a gift from my old scout troup leader. It cooks everything well, but we usually use it for pineapple upside down cake...lots o butter, lots o brown sugar on the bottom......pair it with a bit of Irish Whiskey and some coffee on gravel bar and you have the ultimate night camp....Google Byron's Dutch Oven site and you will find some good stuff... DO cooking is pretty much a no brainer after you get a bit of practice. Regulate the heat....more heat on the top...less on the bottom so you dont burn stuff......rotatate the lid and the oven occasionally (1/4 or 1/2 turn for both every know and then). Fire Gloves...Lid lifter....DO case..get em...Cheers.
