Geoff Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 Sunday, I took the dog for a walk in the park, our usual weekend nonsense. Went down by my favorite carp spot, they were all swimming around tailing, feeding, driving me nuts. So, finish walking the dog, get home and ask my wife if I can help clean the house, or if I can go fishing right quick. She is good to me, this was the result. Good way to spend my halloween morning. First carp on the new 8wt setup, handled it wonderfully, exactly how i wanted it to be and much better then my 5wt, granted this fish was MUCH thinner then the first one I caught on the 5.. Still, it made me happy. "When you do things right, people wont be sure you've done anything at all."
eric1978 Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 Awesome! What fly did he take? Got a better pic of it? I gotta do the carp on the fly thing.
Geoff Posted November 1, 2010 Author Posted November 1, 2010 Its my corn fly really simple pattern out of yellow chenille looped. I threw a crayfish pattern to them for 4-5 casts, but they here the water splashing and they all come swimming up looking for something, switch to the corn and bam! carp on! ( that is once the bluegill all get tired of trying to eat it ) "When you do things right, people wont be sure you've done anything at all."
snagged in outlet 3 Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 Nice!!!! That's a true trophy on a fly. They are much harder to fool than a trout. SIO3
Outside Bend Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 Excellent stuff Geoff, and a great way to enjoy the fall. <{{{><
strangercreek Posted November 2, 2010 Posted November 2, 2010 Very cool. They are definitely challenging and sight fishing is really rewarding (and different)
fishinwrench Posted November 2, 2010 Posted November 2, 2010 Nice work Man ! I've been stalking them some on the sly, but bombing out miserably. Sounds like your carp hole is a little "baited" though so I'll deduct 3 points , but you're still ahead of me by a long shot. Spooky bastages they drive me crazy ! Is that a Triumph or a Reign, and how do you like it ?
Geoff Posted November 2, 2010 Author Posted November 2, 2010 Yeah, the hole might be baited by someone else, but it definitly isnt me. I always cast to the ones tailing, then they just assemble in a big group so I go to where the fish are haha. I THINK that rod is a Triumph. i cant remember right now, but Im almost positive it is. I like it. I snagged it at Cabelas a year or 2 ago, they had em on year end clearance for half price, think I paid 70 bucks or something for it. I have no arguements with it at all. I actually liked it so much i bought a 5wt version of it too. It has good action, loads easily and casts nice enough. My only real gripe about it is that with the Sage 1680 on it, its a heavy combo. wears on the arm quiet a bit for a whole day of fishing. fishinwrench Posted November 2, 2010 Posted November 2, 2010 I'm jealous! Listen to THIS guy ! He lives on the NFOW and he's jealous of a carp fisherman. Who'da ever thunk it ?
