Greg Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 Just for the record I agree with a lot of what Ness said as well. And since when did posting fishing reports (or not posting them) become a prerequisite for having an opinion on an issue? My take on this is as several others have stated - we just don't know enough about the details of this situation. Until we know more I refuse to even speculate that he may have been doing something wrong and conversely I refuse to believe in a "government gone amok theory". id10t Posted November 18, 2010 Posted November 18, 2010 I see that this subject is very touchy for a lot of people. I want to extend my sorrow to the family of the owners of that property. I would also like us to take a minute and see what happens next. We have to remember this guy is still innocent, although the court of public opinion has seemed to chimed a split verdict. Right now he is not convicted of anything, has not been charged with anything and has not lost his land. I know that this is some of the frustration about this situation, the idea that we don't know what is going on over there and right now it seems that the government is outside its limits. But we also have to remember that we don't have all the information, and most likely no one outside the federal authorities has this information. I have read about cases that have been thrown out for constitutional violations, and this guy has an attorney so lets give the process a chance. I would also like to take a minute to say the idea about discussing the qualities of legalizing narcotics on a public fishing forum is probably not the best place to do so. I know that this is a outlet for all of us, but we aren't going to convince each other on this topic. While drugs laws draw scrutiny from people, we have to remember that kids do watch these forums, and that there are other places to discuss these issues. I don't care to express my opinion on the "war on drugs" and I don't think the "war on drugs" is an appropriate topic for this forum. I'm not trying to get all Ness on you guys , I'm just trying to say that we're not going to convince each other on this topic, it truly is a fruitless tree. So my advice is that we calm down, drink a beer and see what the next few weeks brings. No but we will have a thread for Phil to close when he gets back. Why do all the fun threads happen when he leaves. Can we make this one go 30 pages. I dare us to try:rolleyes:
ness Posted November 18, 2010 Posted November 18, 2010 But on the other hand the "stay within the system" statement is something I can't go along with. While this may not be true in this specific case, there are many times when the "system" is just plain wrong. And I think it's our duty as citizens not to go with the grain in cases where the "system" is wrong or unjust. I said generally stay within the system. ness always hedges. And I agree with the rest of what you said, generally. John
id10t Posted November 18, 2010 Posted November 18, 2010 Bottom line, law is the law. I would rather the government not interfer with this concert, or my life, unless the law is being broke. Laws exist for a reason. Any method to crack down on mind bending drugs is fine by me. I have a very good friend whose pregnant aunt was killed by her drugged up, drug dealing boyfriend. Go law enforcement! I think was has folks so upset is there have been no arrests, no charges filed or grand jury's convened to bring down indictments. There appears to only be the seized of property and assets of someone who has not been charged. Kind of hard for folks to understand how that can be called justice when it appears to be so one sided. Again appears is the key word.

id10t Posted November 18, 2010 Posted November 18, 2010 Yeah, I'm sure Verizon is greasing the palms of The Man so he'll look the other way. They probably narced on that upstanding, law-abiding, musician/small business owner down there too. * see, it's still fishing related. Barely. In a way it is a conspiracy. Verizon is a huge part of The Mans Tax Base. Crack down in the parking lots and people stop coming to shows because of the hassle. However the parking lot is the property of the arena so in essence they are liable for not doing enough if the problem exists. The problem in those situations is not a problem if The Man wants the cash and tells law enforcement to wink and look the other way on Verizon Nights. Perfect example of this is Razorback Football Games in Fayetteville. Alcohol is prohibited on campus. If you were caught walking in a parking lot with an open container on any other day than game day you would be looking at an open container ticket at a minimum. If you were over the limit you would be headed downtown for public intox. On game day it is a look the other way attitude by law enforcement. Why is this? Because you don't want to hack of the donors who fill your coffers to pay the expenses to keep the program alive. The law is no alcohol on campus but it is set aside to fit the day and need. Same thing happens in in the luxury boxes at games. The alcohol flows and is over looked however the guy who carries a flask in and gets caught sees the game from the pigscreen outside the stadium.
